More Trouble Than I Am Worth: Chaos Is The Plan (T3hPwnisher Log)

These are gonna have to start showing up in my training for this month, as my home gym is out of commission for May.

Unfortunately, I’ll be doing them with double 32kg ‘bells.

Because I’m insane.

Can’t wait to see it!

@kdjohn Hell yeah man! I haven’t pushed the weight higher, but I’m bound to at some point. The white whale of 30 in 5 is still calling to me, but I’m excited to see how it plays out for you.

@tlgains You gonna watch the one with Demi Moore, or is there a new one coming out?

Thanks for the feed back. I hate having to change too much about these as I like the “shared experience” of them. The fact that many people are sharing in you “bad idea” as it were.

I’ll defiantly do one this weekend. I have time Sunday. I think my approximation of Monument (as you correctly said - no capacity for chin ups.

Session sounds like hard work. Now talk us through all the strange looks you got in the gym as you sweated your way through this :joy:

I started ranting a whole story about myself here, but I chose to delete it. You are doing awesome work man, and I feel inspired by it. All the other stuff was me sucking my own dick.

And as a bad idea to use: bent over row drop set. Every set from strict form to failure even where you allow way more body english. Just rest the time to strip weights. Strip till you just use the bar and go for some long contactions. I tried this yesterday and was drenched by the end.

@carlbm Totally get it! But the shared experience can very much be the misery itself. I think of it like a chili/stew recipe. There’s a common base, but we all add our own spice to it. If we all made it the same, we’d never discover out own hidden flavors.

@simo74 Thanks man! Thankfully, the early hours tend to make it that few are around to observe the insanity, although those daily ABCs are there during prime time, haha.

@Panopticum Dude, I’d love to read what you had to write, but I still appreciate the sentiment shared. I so very much despise bent over rows that I can’t imagine me ever getting to that, haha. But it sounds similar to Marty Gallagher’s “progressive pulls”, and I’m sure is absolutely brutal.

AM WORKOUT (0350 wake up via alarm) FASTED

CLUSTER BOMB: MEGADEATH

100 burpee chins, EMOM 3 KB clusters w/20kg KBs

Total time: 37:45

12 GHRs

PM WORKOUT (1500)

22 ABCs in 5 minutes w/24kg bells

20 GHR sit ups
40 reverse hypers
50 pull aparts
25 pushdowns
Neck work

Notes: Decided to take Cluster Bomb to it’s logical conclusion. It turns into a Kalsu-like workout. Kalsu is still harder, but this is very much awful and fills a solid role that way, especially doing it here at elevation. Hitting it fasted just added to it.

I’m getting back into “ABC shape”. Remembering some of my tricks. Really curious if I will have something to show when I get back to sea level. Definitely feel like I’m dying when it’s done.

Will be keeping the 40ish minutes conditioning-like workouts for the deload. Litvisleds may happen again.

Salute to the Pwnisher!

@T3hPwnisher they are a killer for sure. I didn’t do the movement for a long time so I picked something I guessed would go up for 5… which became 15 with similar drop sets hahaha woke up at night with back cramps

I will try to tell the story without sounding like a douchebag: I train at my uni, and a old roommate of mine and me went for a workout together. I am 6’8, 280 lbs, he is 6’1, 200. He has been going to the gym way longer, but we are quite similar strength-wise (at least, more top-end strength). He trains more like 4x4, long rest while I have been gaslighted by you and Brian Alsruhe and run the BBB challenge, with short rest periods and all giant sets haha.

We decided to do a squat workout in a battle kinda way. 220 lbs back squat, 5 reps, you-go-I-go style, see who drops first. Took it from John Andersen and Dave Tate and really hated/liked it (still sore after 6 days now). He went first and destroyed the first set (he can squat way easier because his limbs are way shorter I guess, I have a ROM of a mile) and I had my creaky first set. When I run the BBB stuff, I notice sets 3 and 4 are usually the easiest, and same here: from set 3 onwards I found my groove. We made it till 50, then he dropped out. We still did a max rep set after that, and I decided to set a front squat 5x5 record after because I didn’t really feel my quads. Meanwhile, he was dying, trying to do some db presses.
The lesson I found out here resonates well with something you said about deep water with all the conditioning: you die every set, but get reborn after a minute. While my rebirth set in during his squats, he did a bit with every set.

I still don’t do conditioning outside of the giant sets, but this was a wake up call: I got to do more!
I challenged him to make this 20x5 with 220 lbs, and than make those back squats front squats week by week.

@Panopticum Dude, I am SO glad you came back and shared that! It’s an awesome story. Great way to make use of the training partner. Sounds like you guys did an awesome job pushing each other, and definitely some lessons learned.

AM WORKOUT (0350 wake up via alarm) FASTED

LITVERSATE

8 front squats of 185
Backwards sled drag on odd sets/push on evens
5 burpee chins

14 rounds done in 40:09, 15 in 43: 20

Notes: Cute name a combination of Litvinov and NEVERsate. Combines stuff from both. Got the 8 front squats and sleds from Dan John’s Litvisleds and the Burpee chins, giant set format from NEVERsate. Zero rest between rounds is my own madness. I seem to be adapting to the elevation, but this is still an absolute killer workout. Really appreciate it: hits just about everything.

Ideally will get in some more ABCs later today.

Thanks, guys! It really helps push the training. For tomorrow we have a deadlift battle planned.
And keep rocking here! Are you gonna use this trip as a way to ‘deload’ @T3hPwnisher ?

You have a strongman comp coming up right?

50 reps that is btw! Not sets

@Panopticum This trip HAS been a deload, haha. Minus that final Deep Water workout, it’s all been deloading. Been getting a LOT of sleep too. Strongman comp scheduled for 25 Jun, assuming work doesn’t step on it, haha.

PM WORKOUT

23 ABCs with 24kbg bells in 5 minutes.

Notes: Did 5 rounds of 4 and 1 of 3. It just keeps getting more awful while I keep getting better. I suppose that is balance. Called it after this, just to keep to a schedule, but again: I can walk away saying “I trained enough today” with this and what I did in the morning.

More travel grub

3 egg whites, half an avocado, 2oz of chicken breasts, a cut up grassfed beef stick, some grape tomatoes and mushrooms with salsa and just a touch of mixed nut butter, which is also what is on that slice of keto toast that I grilled on a 4" skillet, next to some greek yogurt mixed with powdered peanut butter, protein powder, a cut up sugar free dark chocolate peanut butter cup and some keto cereal.

I honestly find joy in “surviving” like this on the road. I see the junk my peers resort to eating and it’s nice to know that there are still options out there.

Hey Pwn, looking for some light reading recommendations around training if course.

Finished - Powerlifting basics, Texas Style and really enjoyed.
Obviously just been reading Super squats .

Wondered what other training related books you liked. It doesnt need to be something where I would actually do the program, I have read Brawn and Dinosaur Training. Looking for something a little on the lighter side maybe.

I liked Dan John’s books mate. If you haven’t read them. Never Let Go is a good read.

Didn’t even consider Dan John as an option. No idea why not, just dumb sometimes. Thanks mate.

@simo74 Dan John is a great pick for sure. Marty Gallagher’s “Purposeful Primitive” is a great value with a lot of lighter stuff. I couldn’t put it down when I got it.

AM WORKOUT (0350 wake up via alarm) FASTED

Dan John’s “The Eagle” (8 front squats, 20 meter farmer’s walk repeat for 8 rounds total) w/24kg bells

100 burpee chins

30 KB clean and push press w/24kb bells

6 prowler trips (2x70, 2x105, 2x140)

Notes: 41 minutes of work. Hodgepodge workout. The 20m walk for The Eagle is a total WAG. I was just walking the length of the gym and back. Honestly, it was a bit of a letdown: more a grip workout than a metabolic one. My grip DID fry and I had to set the bells down after the 6th round of front squats to shake out my hands. It has wings, for sure, but I need to change it up a little. Took about 8 minutes, which means I could go a lot faster on those farmers.

Went straight into the burpee chins from there, then did a mini-KB Grace, and finished out what time I had left with the prowler. Hit just about everything, sweating and breathing hard. Answered the mail for sure.

PM WORKOUT (1600)

24 ABCs w/24kg bells in 5 minutes

Lay down and die for AMRAP in 30 seconds

20 GHR sit ups
25 dips
25 pushdowns
50 face pulls
Neck work

Notes: This one definitely pushed me to the limit. Got that third front squat in at the buzzer. BUT, I DID make a tactical decision to put the bells down between reps 22 and 23 for the sake of recovery, so there’s still some time I can shave. I can tell my front squat is on the shallow side on the first rep of each triple, much like how my clean isn’t really a clean on the first rep, but ultimately these are about going for max hurt vs grooving perfect reps, and it’s doing a FANTASTIC job achieving that.

Planned to just call it at that, but found myself knocking out daily work. Didn’t log it for the AM, but I did GHRs and Reverse Hypers then. All that said, I’m scrapping dips for the rest of the trip: the station here is too wide and it’s upsetting my shoulder. I’m getting in more than enough pressing volume.

Tomorrow is going to be a shorter workout. Have an earlier showtime for work. Maybe bring back the Tower, or hit another round of Litversates, or something else. Burpee chins will most likely factor: I like being able to get my daily chins knocked out on top of my conditioning.

Thanks @T3hPwnisher and @wiseman83 I am going to order both of those on kindle. That will keep me going for a little while.
