More Trouble Than I Am Worth: Chaos Is The Plan (T3hPwnisher Log)

I’m getting a searing head pain when I’m 6 sets Into the TFSQs

I’m sure I’ve read that you had similar, something maybe blood pressure related?

If so how did you deal with it?

What are TFSQs?

I used to get searing back of head pain with high rep squats and also ermmmm during the climax of sexy time. Stayed for a few weeks then went away, I personally put it down to something to do with a trapped nerve or something of the like as it went away all of a sudden

@aholding88 TFSQ would refer to “Tabata Front Squats”, ala my current daily protocol of them.

@ChongLordUno My blood pressure issue actually bad me blacking out and convulsing during overhead work. I HAVE gotten real gnarly headaches from training before. In fact: got one today. I always get them during the final weeks of Deep Water. Caffeine is my go to: usually a strong caffeine based anti-headache medicine taken in the middle of the workout and an energy drink immediately afterwards. I’ve heard folks say that exertion headaches are from neck tension, but I’ve never really looked too far into it.

DEEP WATER INTERMEDIATE Week 5, Workout 1

AM WORKOUT (0331 natural wake up)

Warm up w/3 rounds of box jump triples and buffalo bar squats

Buffalo Bar Squat
7x12x375
16x375

Immediately after final rep, swat away Valkyries before they try to carry me off to Valhalla

KB front rack lunges
2x8x47.5

Reverse hyper/standing ab wheel
1x40x360/30

POST WORKOUT SHAKE

CONDITIONING

3 move circuit of: 278lb deadlift-chins-dips
15-5-10

Time: 6:17

30 GHRs

Notes: 3:50 between the first 7 sets, 4:50 for the final set. 90 seconds between lunges. I am sick with something. My fever broke HARD in the middle of the night, to the point I was so dehydrated in the morning my calves cramped when putting on my knee sleeves. My respiratory system is shot: could only hold my breath for the first 4-5 reps of each set. My fever RE-broke in the middle of the workout. And none of that matters, because the end was inevitable. I had this workout done the night before, when I set the Buffalo Bar in the rack and set up my box for jumping. I had the best unracks/walkouts I’d had this whole cycle and felt just strong as hell. And on a normal day, under normal circumstances, I’d be pleased with 16x375. To manage it after after 7 sets of 12 is just absolutely bonkers. Even with me commenting about how Deep Water doesn’t quite have the thrill it did the first time, there is no denying that EVERY time I run it I am transformed.

The post squat work was NUTS. My heart absolutely redlined on those lunges. Been a long time since I felt that. I cut things down to bare essentials partly due to time and partly due to just how absolutely annihilated I was from that final set of squats.

Which, speaking of squats: they are still on the agenda.

I’m rocking that post squat headache and euphoria together. Be a good weekend for eating and recovering.

I might bang a couple of caffeine paracetamol before the next session

I have to say, I’ve failed twice on this…

With the 16s

This is testament to how devastatingly brutal these tabatas are. This weight is light however I’m actually nervous in the first couple of sets be cause I know I’m going to be overwhelmed with darkness. The 16s are total blackout for me.

I will crush these. I have to

Dude, no joke: every day I go through a 4 minute journey/vision quest with these. It’s ridiculous how 4 minutes can seem so long. My Grandpa always used to say “If you want time to slow down hang by your thumbs”, and this is definitely that.

Just a serious observation here: I know you’re in your 40’s with young kids. If you’re truly getting searing head pains and near blackouts from your training, rethink your approach. Don’t just pop extra caffeine pills and push through. It’s great to push yourself and see physical transformations and all, but keep things in perspective here.

It’s funny you say that because I’ve been doing the Tabatas On top of my staircase with my wee boy in his room

When it happened yesterday, my first thought was ‘I need to stop this. What if I collapse and he’s left all in the house himself’

If I was in the gym I would have probably grinded through

The worse head pain (out side of a migraine) I’ve ever had was a neck strain. And the muscles spasmed over the nerves that much the coating was worn down and the muscle was directly on the nerve. Whilst I’m not for one second suggesting that this is whats wrong with you. But it was interesting to be with a neurologist and be told - 99% of head aches are not “head related”. It is referred pain.
So I would suggest a full diagnostic approach. I’m not saying its not blood pressure. But if you are carrying an injury. It could be related. And it could just be taking 6 rounds to show its self. Either way go safe dude.

I want a sub 3min Grace for 1 reason. My eldest kid saw a you tube video that said this was the bench mark for an “advanced athletes”. And I want to carry on being his hero.
FYI - all the while you look the way you do and can preform the way you can - you;ll be cool. Sure you’ll be some what embarrassing. But when push comes to shove your kids will always win the “my dad is stronger then yours” argument. There is an awful lot of credibility in that.

@carlbm Very much appreciate that sentiment. I always want to be my kid’s hero. It’s starting to dawn on them how their dad is bigger and stronger than “standard issue”. During our last move, they helped pack my strongman trophies, and that’s stood out in their mind a bit when it comes to understanding how strong daddy is, haha.

@ChongLordUno Good on you for taking it down!

Got the Tabata KB front squats knocked out and another Tang Soo Do class done. I’m pouring sweat and my head is spinning, but as quickly as this hit me it seems to be leaving as well.

Apparently it’s 26 days since i last checked this log, which means 200+ posts. I assume in this time you’ve run Supersquats twice and broken several world records?

@dagill2 Good to see you again dude! Amor Building Complexes are the name of the game today! haha.

Woke up first at 0425. Mrs had an alarm set from the previous weekend’s marathon. After that, work up at 0630 for a different alarm, immediately got out of bed and hit 23 ABCs with 47.5lbs in 5 minutes, fasted, in my pajamas. Things are really in a good way there, especially doing that after my 100 rep squat day.

Busy day today as far as activities go, so glad I got that in. Any other training will occur as possible.

@Andrewgen_Receptors I owe it to a dude over on the bullshido forums back in the day that did the same thing to me. Were it not for that, I’d have never run the program, and GOD I wish I had done it earlier.

And if they say they want to train 4 days a week, then I say Deep Water, haha.

@dagill2 Absolutely dude! Philosophy and eating like a kid: how could I NOT do it?

So today was another absolute and total: “get to yes” day.

Talked about my double alarm morning. After breakfast, I cleaned up, took out the trash and got 50 burpee chins done in 6 minutes and some change. Just enough time to come inside, prep lunch and a snack for myself before taking the kid out to Tang Soo Do. Before we got there, I had enough time for us to swing into Sam’s Club and get a few groceries (they currently have the best eggs I can get, along with choice celery and other produce).

Took the kid to TSD. They got another stripe on their belt because they’re a total rockstar. To celebrate, back to Sam’s for a slice of pizza while I ate my pre-packed shrimp, lean ham, broccoli and cauilflower (basically all the week’s leftovers shoved into a sealed glass container), dropped the kid off at a birthday party. Had 2 hours, got the Costco shopping done, came back home in time to unload all the cold stuff, and had time for

Tabata KB front squats

Before rushing out the garage, still huffing and puffing, pick the kid up, bring them home, grab a 20 minute power nap before the whole family goes out for a light dinner and to take in a play at the local theater (Giraffes Can’t Dance. We appreciate the finer things).

Get home, have the kiddo take a shower before getting ready for bed, during which time I get in

24 ABCs with 24kg bells in under 5 minutes

So, 2 5 minute workouts, 1 6 and 1 4. 20 total minutes of training today, and all of them absolutely brutal.

There’s always time. We’ll find a way.

Proofing my wife’s paper for her second masters as she’s getting in a run on the treadmill, because, like me, she is also absolutely insane.

I assume this is based on the kids book. If so it is a good book that I have read many times to my kids when they were a little smaller.

The “getting to yes mindset” is such a must-have when it comes to training. Something cool about the Bill Pearl book, Keys to Progress, and Super Squats is they all pushed the idea of how you still have to figure stuff out for yourself and find what works and what doesn’t. Someone could absolutely get bigger and stronger just by doing tabata workouts. It’s awesome how a program only works if a person puts in the work.

As for me, when it comes to the “getting to yes” mindset, I envy getting to a point where I stop treating “hard” programs or training methods as some sort of ritual. I’m starting to think that’s such a goofy way of thinking because my effort on that “hard” program should be equivalent to a “easy” program. Sometimes people will say programs like 5/3/1 doesn’t work which is ridiculous.

But, anyway it’s nice to hear another one of your getting to yes stories dude.

Still getting my head around that crazy deadlift session with 496 sets of 400lbs.

Great work man. Honestly. This log actually makes me tired reading it. But also makes me get up and do more. Lol
