More Trouble Than I Am Worth: Chaos Is The Plan (T3hPwnisher Log)

@The_Myth It’s legit a total nostalgia bomb for me. It was my FAVORITE thing on the menu when I was a fat kid, because think about it: nothing but meat, cheese, bread and mayo. No yucky vegetables to get in the way, haha. And, in turn, in the summer where I lost 20lbs as a high school freshman, I gave up my precious Ultimate Cheeseburger and went with the “healthy” chicken sandwiches at Jack in the Box (hah!). And the big pivotal moment for me was in that summer, my mom was doing a Jack in The Box run and asked what I wanted, and I paused and said triumphantly “I want an Ultimate Cheeseburger”. I had achieved victory: I could allow myself my Ultimate Cheeseburger again. And that’s exactly how that felt this time, haha.

@kleinhound Hah! It’s legit one of those things I can’t stand about training grappling. Egos get too big because it’s “safe”. At least in striking arts, you start getting froggy, senior student “corrects” you with a punch in the mouth.

Doing a bit more thinking about the future, and I think I’m more going to steal Brian’s idea there and use an approach I’ve done previously. EMOM training, cycling between 3 lifts (a squat, press and chin on A days, and a deadlift, bench and row/chin on B days). Keep reps on the low side (5 and below), rotate movements ala DC (so 2 weeks to get through a full cycle), assistance work/conditioning on the back end. I feel like this will suit where I need to be, and keep me “DC strong”. I can even use many of the same movements I was using previously.

Got up at 0600 and ran a fasted Murph, RX with the 20lb vest

Total time was 52:05

First mile took 9:17, final mile was 9:43

For the bodyweight work, I partitioned it, using a Dan John approach of 2-4-6 and 3-6-9 for chin/push up/squat respectively (so 2 chins, 4 push ups, 6 squats, then 3 chins, 6 push ups, 9 squats, then repeat).

This definitely wasn’t my fastest time, but I did have a few factors to contend with. One being that I’m at my in-laws in Denver, so I’m at mile high elevation, and an absolutely NOT in Murph shape. The other being that, my chinning rig was some Ironmind loops wrapped around an I-beam

Which is a lot better than doing chins off the I-beam itself, but still not an ideal set up. But f**k it: this is a Memorial WOD, and I can suffer a little in memory of a hero.

“Happy” Memorial Day never sounds right, so solemn Memorial day to you all.

Memmorial Day means its 5 years since i was last in New York. Fond memories…mixed with solomn feelings. Just grateful i got to experience a Memorial Day on US soil. Very similar feelings of Anzac Day here in Aus.

Finally got back to the promised land after 18 months. A plain double double for the little one, Double Double no onions add Pickles for the Mrs, and a double double no onions, flying Dutchman and 3 pup patties for yours truly. I had 2 bites of the full burger and they were magical, then ate the rest of the meat.

And we are going back tomorrow!

Part 2: my kiddo took down a 3x3: I am a proud papa. Had myself 2 flying dutchmans and 4 pup patties. Mrs stuck with the Double Double, and her and the kiddo split the fries

Hey dude, just wanted to hop on here and say thank you for the Dan John review. I somehow didn’t even know that book had been released, and it was absolutely perfect timing.

I am just posting about awesome meals at this point. My folks by, my dad took us all out to Texas Roadhouse, I got my usual full rack of ribs with no sauce and 2 bowls of scrambled eggs, my dad ordered the full rack of ribs with no sauce as well…but he only made it through half the rack and then asked if I wanted the rest.

“Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.”- Napoleon Bonaparte

My mom also ordered the half rack, with sauce, got through half of it and told me to bring the rest home. I desauced them and have them in the fridge.

That’s a good day of ribs. And I’m actually leaning out this trip. Being fat adapted, I don’t get hungry, so I tend to have very light meals for the majority of my meals here and then allow myself to indulge on a great opportunity.

On that note, I decided I’m going to give Vince Gironda’s “Steak and Eggs Diet” a go in Jul when my wife is on a work trip. Always wanted to give that a go, and that will be a perfect chance.

I’m staying active this trip, getting in a lot of walking, and every morning, as soon as I get up, I do Tabata intervals of prisoner squats on the 20s and push ups on the 10s. I started off with 8 rounds, and have worked my way up to 11 today. It’s solid enough work: I get in 10 push ups on the 10s no matter what, and 16-17 squats on the squats. It’s been good enough for maintaining. I packed kettlebells and a weight vest, but honestly just haven’t wanted to train more than this. I’m enjoying the family time more. I’ll be “back on the program” soon enough: this is exactly why I train hard during my real life.

Just call it a deload week with active recovery based on intuitive training - nobody will ever know the difference.

Gave me a solid chuckle.

I read Bonaparte: A Life by Andrew Roberts earlier this year, that man knew a lot about a lot of things.

Read the book, read the review, did day 1 of the program today. One thing that wasn’t clear to me in the KB section, the presses are supposed to in the order of clean - then press for reps right? (I.e. in the scheme of 2-3-5 pressing it would look like clean - 2 reps, put bells down, clean - 3 reps…)

@cyclonengineer You got it. “Clean and press away” per strongman vernacular. Vs “clean each rep and press”

Big props to Sam’s Number 3 in Denver CO. The “Yo Momma’s Big Fat Omelet” was a 6 egg Omelet with ham, sausage, bacon and gyro meat with Jack, cheddar and swiss cheese. It also originally came with some veggies and American cheese, but I held that. But the real win is an option to “go low carb” and trade in your sides of bread and potatoes for another egg, cottage cheese and tomato slices, so now it’s a SEVEN egg Omelet. And, of course: I didn’t eat the tomatoes, haha. Absolutely yummy.
