More Trouble Than I Am Worth: Chaos Is The Plan (T3hPwnisher Log)

@alex_uk Forgot to reply to you, but it’s awesome to see you finding ways to “get to yes”. And appreciate the kudos dude!

@simo74 Thanks so much man! Several more to come!

@Lonnie123 People seem to really just be in a rush to get upset these days. I’m a fan of the “principle of charity”. I try to assume benevolence FIRST and work my way to outrage, whereas others seem to go opposite, haha. Glad you dug that Tree of Woe workout! It’s absolutely devious. I’ve never used a Sous Vide before, but have definitely experienced the results of it. Had a buddy cook me up a ribeye on it. Definitely yummy, but not something I have the patience for, haha. If I’m going to spend that long cooking something, it’s gonna be ribs or a brisket! Haha. But I bet that would be awesome for a Tomahawk! And that’s an outstanding looking steak you produced.

Notes:

  • Since I didn’t get this workout done last week, I decided to just carry it into this one. This week itself is going to be unique, as I’ll be hunting on Wed-Thurs-Fri and there is a fair chance my training will get compromised on those dates. But, with Chaos being the plan, that works perfectly.

  • This is the strongest I’ve been on the log in a while, which I absolutely attribute to the approximately 300g of protein I ate in one sitting the afternoon before. I’ve been fasting since that meal, not out of martyrdom but out of sheer fullness. I’m basically going to wait until hunger returns before I eat again, which at this point is looking like a 24 hour fast at least. Meanwhile, still trained like an absolute animal.

  • The first squat is ALWAYS so rough and ugly, and it’s usually by about rep 7 that I’m finally feeling pretty good and smooth. Funny that. Definitely hitting the challenge on these. This isn’t supposed to be Super Squats, but if I keep doing this 3x a week, what else is it really?

  • I’m definitely seeing myself fill out from the training and eating. It’s a great season for feasting. I’ll need to weigh myself at some point when my weight has settled so I have an idea of what weight class I’ll be in for the grappling tournament. I’ve been eating big now, but it’ll be light rations while I’m hunting.

  • Since I had the day off, I went on a slightly longer walk with the wolf.

  • This new shirt design from Irongods is so over the top and I absolutely love it. Can’t wait for it to drop.

Good luck on the hunt dude! Iirc, this will be your first time out right?

Thanks man! Yup: first time ever. Got a very qualified buddy of mine to teach me the ropes. Hoping to stock my freezer, but my fallback plan is to get a cow in there if the deer don’t show, haha.

That’s great dude! I’ve been having to learn it myself and it’s quite an experience. Having a teacher will be worth it’s weight in… meat, haha.

I suspect the hubting in Nebraska is a very different experience than here in Maine, given the landscapes. Definitely hope to hear some details of your trip!

Ditto.

That’s awesome man! Is it a round robin style where you get multiple matches or a knock-out bracket style?

Have fun out there!

@mr.v3lv3t and @jshaving Absolutely dudes! From all accounts, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be terribly active. Sounds like we’re set up in a blind just waiting, but if it brings home meat, I’m for it.

@kleinhound Thanks man! I legit don’t know, haha. The organization is “submission challenge”, and the only way to win is via submission vs points, which I think is cool. Looking at some previous challenges, I think it’s not a single-elimination style.

Which Martial Art? I love submission only grappling.

No particular martial art. Just submission grappling. I imagine most folks will have a BJJ background though.

Ahh didn’t realize you did grappling. For some reason, I remembered you doing a striking art.

Nvm… I should probably just read back to your original post. Good luck!

No worries man. I didn’t realize you were asking me what MY background was, haha. Yeah, I’m currently training a striking martial art (Tang Soo Do), but I wrestled when I was in high school and during my brief foray into MMA I trained a handful of submission arts (SAMBO, BJJ and just stuff we called "submission grappling). Never stayed at one school long enough to really stick, but I learned enough to know a few subs and defenses. Back then, I just relied on wrestling so I could sprawl out and get back to my feet.

Hahaha! I guess I didn’t think about the possibility you’d compete in a martial art you didn’t train. Should have known.

That’s kind of the name of the game for white tail, for better or worse haha. Hopefully nature puts on a good show for you while you wait. I’ve seen more cool wild life stuff in the past few weeks than I have in a long time.

@dchris Chaos is the plan! Haha. I REALLY wanna get in a boxing smoker at some point in my life, but I just miss combat in general and will take whatever avenue.

@mr.v3lv3t much appreciated dude! I had 3 white tail jump in front of my truck this morning, so fingers crossed!

AM WORKOUT (0417 natural wake up. Great night of sleep)

Chaos Is The Plan: The Cimmerian Chronicle Week 4, Day 2-“Wheel of Pain”

40 minute workout

  • Zercher march in place with 103lb axle
  • EMOM do an axle clean and push press away
  • Add 1 rep each round until failure, then start over

Got up to 9 reps 3 times. Failed going for 10 (getting 8-7-8 if I recall correctly)

20 minutes of Dan John’s ladder (2-3-5-10), getting a total of 225 prisoner squats and push ups

BREAKFAST

Short walk with wolf

Longer hill walk solo (brought the truck in for repairs and walked while I waited)

Notes:

  • The story: Sold into slavery by a conquering tribe, the Cimmerian finds himself sentenced to the Wheel of Pain. His only “relief” is to be found in the brutal gladiatorial pits of his captors, wherein each evening he encounters a growing number of opponents. Each successive victory buys him a little less time at the wheel, but failure is met with more toil and pain.

  • Came up with this in the middle of the night and its got some potential. My knees are a little sore so I didn’t want to do thrusters, and with the grappling tournament coming up I figured zerchers and bear hugs will be valuable. Like the tree of woe, you suffer to avoid suffering. The further you can push those presses, the less time you spend carrying, but if you take too long to get the presses done, you wont be recovered enough for the next round.

  • This would be an excellent workout to take to a track. Then you could even set distance goals. Marching in place certainly worked, but a real carry would be dandy. And this could also be a kettlebell front rack or keg carry workout too.

  • Good finisher with the squats and push ups. The wheel wasn’t a gasser for conditioning, but definitely drained me.

EDIT:

Found this online. Going to call it “Artistic rendering of my kid and I at Texas De Brazil”

Only way it could have been better is Juggernaut instead of the Hulk.

So, not to be a buzzkill, but…

It’s kind of like black face. You get cancelled for that.

Most people don’t realize that black people sold Black people into slavery. Capitalization is key here.

Unfortunately, any narrative regarding slavery might be construed as trivializing it. To be honest, I have African blood, so kind of a one drop rule, if you get me.

The meme is offensive. A large breasted Black woman with nappy hair, hand on her hips being uppity. It’s just not a good look.

Personally, I wouldn’t touch anything having to do with race or slavery.

So, a few things you said drew me in, which I’m not sure yet if I’m ashamed about [for being drawn in].

First:

Does that even mean anything if your revenue or sense of self-worth isn’t tied your publicity? I mean, I know what you’re saying, but it’s a strange choice of words.

But there’s a second piece of all this, which is more concerning: that of negating individuality. Some group of people said Y, and with it, a whole host of meanings explicit or implied. The problem is assuming that if any individual also says Y, that they also intend all those same meanings, negating any individual intention of expression. People are still individuals.

Like, I’m pretty sure you know there was no offensive intent by @T3hPwnisher by posting that picture.

But additionally, and I’m not at all defending Robert Howard in creating his Conan character, slavery was around for a long long long time, by lots of different people, against lots of different people, before Black slavery (and by extension, Black Slavery in North America) was ever a thing. This is one of those really bizarre American exceptionalism things, as if Black slavery in America is somehow more significant than… well… every other instance of slavery.

Jumping back and forth between fiction and reality here, but Conan was a Cimmerian, and the world of Conan has a lot of parallels in that period of time, i.e., early Greek history. In real life, the Cimmerians invaded the territory of the Lydians (in Modern Turkey). In real life, there was plenty of slavery in Greece, and Lydia, etc. In mythology:

The Lydian queen Omphale actually owned Hercules, as a slave. She bought the hero from the god Hermes, who sold him following an oracle which declared that Hercules must be sold into slavery for three years.
[…]
The Athenian playwright Sophocles imagined Hercules feeling deep dishonor at being forced into slavery, “so stung was he by the shame of it.” Slaves in Greek society often came from non-Greek regions, so the enslavement of the great Hercules by a barbarian queen from Lydia would have seemed an especially outrageous reversal to the Greeks. During this time of servitude, the hero continued his amazing feats, ridding yet another part of the world of monsters.

From: Omphale

Howard drew on a lot of references. To conflate his stories (or this particular derivative story) to have anything to do with… well… anything else, just does not track.

Much respect, and I get your point - sort of. What is strange about my diction?

I do not mean that as a challenge, I truly would like to discuss this.

@T3hPwnisher is quite possibly one of my favorite people here, possibly on the planet. I have learned so much from him - he motivated me to study Stoicism and to get my mind healthy, so I should probably just STFU.

I’m going to go woke on you here. I think you might be naive to think any slave narrative written at any time does not track with Murrica today is naive.

Might just be me, with a 20 year old and a 17 year old, but those kids are very sensitive - most likely white guilt despite the fact my kids have a drop.

I could be wrong, but it is just not worth finding out.

It was specific to the literal phrasing of “getting cancelled”, i.e., losing one’s platform/audience. (And yes, I know there’s more to that phrase than the literal meaning.) If you don’t care about losing your audience, does it matter?

Obviously I’m walking a very very very slippery slope with saying that. Speaking in generalities I’m not even sure I agree with all those implications.

However, for this specific situation, of modeling one’s training off a fictional character in a fictional situation, I think it’s completely valid. The training isn’t going to change, the story isn’t going to change, and the story serves a purpose. I doubt there’s a single person reading it who can directly relate to the story itself and who is offended by direct experience.

But yeah, it was literally just a comment related to the choice of using “cancelled”. Nothing more than that.

While I don’t agree with the first statement – they are different things and should be treated as different things, in different contexts, with different experiences – I do understand and relate with the basic sentiment when it comes to protecting/shielding/explaining things to the kids. Mine are younger, but I’m certain I’ll have my own share of issues.

I mean absolutely no disrespect with anything I said. I do think context matters, and I think that implications that are not properly contextualized can be dangerous. Treating something as if it’s something other than what it is, can be a dangerous thing.

I actually found that it works best because I dont have the patience or time. There is no sitting around monitoring the grill, watching a thermometer, timing anything… Just throw it in the bag, throw that in the water and come back at dinnertime to a perfectly cooked steak. 1 min each side to sear and its done

Im sure you know how to cook a steak by now, but if you see one for a good price at a garage sale or something it might be worth your while
