With the effort you put in daily, I think prioritizing conditioning before tackling your style of workouts is tantamount. I know for a fact that with my current conditioning I wouldn’t be able to recover from something similar to what you do.
Most people reading your blog/log understands it takes years to get to where you are at, but if you were to mass market something the average reader is always looking for the quick fix (which I know you already know).
Absolutely dude! I just have issues “crossing the streams” in my head. The lifting and the conditioning are two different things to me, so I have a lifting protocol and a conditioning protocol rather than “a protocol”. And probably a big part of that is that the conditioning is all ad hoc while the lifting is structured.
I think you would be surprised and what you could do if you were prepared to put up with the suck. Everything Pwn does is scaleable whether it the weight you use, the rounds you do, the time it takes, the number of times you puke etc etc
Don’t other think it and just get started.
@simo74 Absolutely true. I do what I do in hopes that others understand that it’s possible. I hope to be the dude that makes the impossible seem approachable. Ultimately, I’m just some dude. Very average, not gifted, but willing to work hard.
PM WORKOUT (1600)
More tabata KB front squats

Tang Soo Do class at 1800
Notes: Walk with the dog didn’t happen, so I got in something quick while taking out the trash. Tang Soo Do had me spar the Mrs. Needless to say, aggression was tuned down a bit, but was a joy to be able to have the experience. Also got to see my kid spar and they had some great techniques. Trying to come up with something nutty for tomorrow.
You sir are an unstoppable force of nature, you are the Juggernaut. You are also my brother from another mother. Neither of these are average.
@simo74 Always appreciated dude!
Slept until 0622 and hit a fasted 38 rounds of burpees over bar at 20 seconds on/10 seconds off. Best sleep I’ve had in a LONG time. Weekend is off to a great start.
Mate if you were to hit a 2 day template designed to put on a bit of size, what route would you take?
Asking for a friend
2 days of lifting or 2 days of training total?
Lifting mate
Something based around breathing squats for sure. The stuff in Brawn or the OG Super Squats. Only lifting twice a week means LOTS of time to recover. Non lifting days for conditioning and bodyweight work.
Thanks brother, just needed a slight nudge there and you’ve come up with the goods as per
Dan John recently did a podcast about mass gaining based around high rep squats a la Mass Made Simple, paired with handstand push ups.
Link me bro
No idea if that will work, or if the mods will have issues with Spotify links so it’s Dan John podcast episode 119.
@T3hPwnisher do I remember rightly that you’ve read Kiss or Kill by Mark Twight? If not, I highly recommend it. It’s absolutely not about lifting, and barely even mentions training, but it’s a fantastic insight into the mindset of the guy.
My podcast co host Joe Hotai went over and trained with Mark for a few weeks.
Earned his t shirt as well
I heard the podcast mate, they’re impressive guys.
Or breathing deadlifts.
For the truly deranged.
This is the way, bitch.
Yyyaassss
@ChongLordUno Absolutely dude! With all the other stuff you do, 20 rep breathing work will go far. @kdjohn raises a great point. You have a trap bar, which would lend well to it. The barbell tends to get in the way of the deep breaths, but the trap bar lines you up perfectly. Randall Strossen and Paul Kelso both vouched for that.
@dagill2 Good mention there! Love the DJ podcast.

2 mile walk with the dog
Notes: I am officially naming this workout, but it’s honestly more an idea than anything else. It’s origins come from Final Fantasy VI (III in the US), where the villain actually succeeds. At the end of the game, you encounter him and he expresses his nihilistic intent to destroy everything
In that battle, you fight a multi-part final boss, which is much like the structure of this workout. And in turn, you’re dying the entire time.
It also lends itself to allow me to just keep adding onto it to make it more challenging as I go. And giving it a name will make it easier than having to list it out every time. It was originally Deep Water, but now it’s mine.
The squat technique is getting sloppy/old school on me. I’m relying a lot on my hamstrings and low back to carry me through vs the more upright/quaddy style squat I’ve been using recently. Makes sense. When we’re in a bind, we fall back on what we’re good at. Got an extra rep on the axle deadlift before having to put it down, which was awesome. Fran felt like it moved a little better while Grace felt super awful. 10 was my minimum goal for the stone: I can add on to it next time.
