More Sleep vs Training Partner

For me I work shift work in the Air Force and switch every 10 weeks to a new schedule. I was on Days 0730-330 pm and obviously I had to go to the gym at like 5-6 pm. I then switched to the shift you are going to 330pm to 1130 pm. I had to adjust my body to waking up around 10-11 am then eating and lifting around noon-1 pm. Took my body a bit of time to get used to lifting before work vs after. Now I am on Mid shift 1130 pm to 730 am. I am back to working out after work due to wanted to save gas money and gym hours on the different bases over here. Your body can adjust to any schedule granted you are getting adequate sleep for it. I know if I don’t get my 7-9 hours of good sleep a night I start feeling shit and not recovering in about 3 days. So in my mind getting sleep over a training partner is key.

Sorry for the rant. Hope it helped a little at least.

I vote for the sleep option.

personally I’d take the long sleep… 5.5 hours and I cant do anything till I have jacked myself with caffine and that only works for 2 or 3 days then I crash… that said, thats what I do and it works ok, just get used to coffee ![/quote]

I agree.

7-8 hours of sleep, no contest. I couldn’t imagine trying to train with less sleep than that.

I’m with kingbeef…man if your trainin your ass off, I can’t see you how can function with 5 hours of sleep a night. CONSISTENTLY.
Sure I’ve made gains and whatever from getting only 5 hours of sleep, and sure I tranied hard…but after a few weeks it WILL catch up to you. The naps won’t seem to help as much either, and you’ll feel that constant need that you just need more sleep.

who needs a partner? i mean, find random dudes for spots or use less weight with an heavy emphasis or squeezing your muscles.

Obviously more sleep. I sleep 10-12 hours everyday and I’ve made my greatest gain sleeping that much.

10-12 hrs a night!! that’s crazy lol
If I get a SOLID 8 hours of sleep I feel like a king. If I get 9 I will still feel pretty damn good. Once I get to 10+ I just feel sluggish and feel like I don’t have the physical or mental capacity to do anything other than sit all day.

I’ve found the same.

Me three… And it’s weird but if I go to sleep, am undisturbed and wake up on my own, it’s always 8 hours and 45 minutes that I slept, give or take a few per night…

I’ve found the sweet spot between 8-9 hours of constant sleep does the trick as well. Funny how that works well for so many of us. 7 seems ok and can function well, but less than 7 for a few nights in a row i start dragging ass hardcore then i need like 10-12 1 night to catch up for lost time.

Guys,

I need help - I woke up this morning and couldn’t decide when to take a crap. I mean I have to shower and head to work. Should I crap before I shower or after?

No need to respond.

I’ve asked myself this same question. I mean, on one hand, you can shit first, and then shower; that way there’s no doubt that you’re thoroughly clean. But, if you wait til after you shower, the warm water seems to relax your bowels and it just slides out, making the whole affair much easier and less like giving birth to small, lumpy, brown child.

But then you get a wet ass on the toilet seat, no matter how good you dry off, and it just doesnt feel right.

all kidding aside, I used to do that, go to bed late, and be in the gym by 5, and getting into max lifts around 545. It didnt work out too good after a while, but I only did this 2 times a week.

Try it out, try both out for 2 weeks each, and then compare.

Shitting is always my first priority.

Joking aside, I couldn’t wake up and train on that little sleep, at least no on the regular. You might as well give it a try for a while if you really feel like your training partner is not replaceable. Maybe you could also suggest a compromise to him like that you’ll do early mornings 2 days a week when you really need a spot and he can train evenings with you or not depending on whether either of you need a spot during the other sessions. I’d personally try to maintain the training relationship you have to the best of your ability since your schedule may change again at some point to a more favorable one so for now some sort of compromise may be necessary. But of course you have to consider that he may not be willing to compromise. Hopefully though it all works out for the best. Good luck.

Joking not aside, if you have bits of almond, corn, or anything else in there you need to get it out before you shower.

I kid you not bro thats my number one priority too

If I don’t get a good shit before heading off to school, I end up getting gassy and bloated.

A workout can wait.

A meal can be eaten on the go.

A bloated stomach thats so uncomfortable you start sweating and it starts making noises…cannot wait.
