I had a thread a few years back saying that all Muslims are nuts. They think differently than those of us in the West. Our society is based mostly on mathematics, logic, and science, while theirs is based on a book written by and for tribesmen wandering in a desert.

I imagine the Greeks and Romans were saying that exact same thing about the Jews 2000 years ago.

What an odd thing to say.

Why do you say so?

“Our society is based mostly on mathematics, logic, and science” would be an accurate statement for an educated Greek or Roman to make about his own society 2000 years ago, and “theirs is based on a book written by and for tribesmen wandering in a desert” would be a pretty fair assessment of the Jews by the Greeks and Romans of that period.

Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Jacob et al. were tribesmen. They wandered in the desert. The book on which Jewish society was based was written by and for them.

Which part of this statement do you find odd?

Where are the defenders of Islam now?

Where are the defenders of libertarianism?

I met an Israeli business grad student on campus recently who explained to me that parents should be free to sell their children to pay off debts, and government has no right to deprive parents of this option.
Really? Do you actually think that’s the doctrinaire libertarian view? To most libertarians preventing the use of people as chattel would be one of the few reasons governments do exist.

To this libertarian who also happens to be something of an admitted imperialist, if we didn’t have an American Gestapo known as the BATFE, men like myself would be running militias that would go overseas to kill men like that cleric/judge/pedophile.

Forced marriage was ruled out as being illegal (yes Varq, by that same Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh!), and it is a punishable offense.

This issue transcends marriage. It’s really about the age at which the state emancipates children. Of no less importance, is the fact that the judiciary is an extension of the political authority in the country.

Besides, what kind of a dumbass judge throws out a case like this, arguing a technicality? From the article:

The judge ruled the girl’s mother – who is separated from the girl’s father – was not the girl’s legal guardian and therefore could not represent her in court, according to Abdullah al-Jutaili, the mother’s lawyer.

It’s the girl’s mother for crying out loud!

Anyway, I join Varq in denouncing this mess. I’m convinced there’s a special place in Hell for the girl’s father and her husband.
Lixy if you find such behavior reprehensible why do you worship the man who inspired it? You sound very conflicted.

I am not surprised that Mohamed was a violent man, he worships a God who is vengeful, hateful, spiteful and jealous. What would you expect?

Knowing how little media attention trains coming on time attract, I feel the need to post this:

Young Saudi girl’s marriage ended

I’m glad someone in power in Saudi Arabia has a sense of decency. Justice Minister Muhammad Issa, good for you.

The same could be said many times over about the “vengeful God” that both Jews and Christians worship. I hope you guys don’t get turned into pillars of salt because you had too much sex.

While I condemn the act that Varq posted, I do enjoy how this thread has turned out.

As if the twisting of religion for political gain was really something new…

The people who think this are the ones who so often look past the massive failings and genocides of their own religion to find fault with whatever terrible thing circulates now.

Nature of the beast, huh?

And on that subject, where the hell is PRCalDude? He hasn’t posted in nearly a month.

I started this thread just for him, and he doesn’t even have the goddamn common courtesy to come and chastise me about it.

He’s probably correct.

Let’s hope against a repeat of the monotheist cult takeover.

Speaking of off topic Saudi Nonsense…did anyone happen to catch 60 Minutes this weekend?

I caught part of it. About the Saudi terrorist rehabilitation centers and Gitmo…how most of the released terrorists have gone back to their old pastimes.

One guy showed up in an al-Qaeda video made in Yemen, threatening further terrorist attacks against the Saudis. He eventually turned himself back in, recanted and now lives…not in a prison…but in an appartment where he can see his wife and kids daily.

Another guy who was released from Gitmo, and the Saudi rehabilitation center, ended up driving an explosives filled tanker truck into an Iraqi police station killing himself and many others.

Yeah, good idea to close Gitmo. . . .

The prisoners take it as a sign from Allah that their mission is divinely sanctioned
