pf sucks…
While it is a den of mediocrity I’m sure 10$ a month for a spa and tanning bed is worth it. Frigg, just keep a second membership to an actual gym and you’re set.

Someone who actually did the things that would set off that “lunk alarm” would tear the guard guy in two.
“Hey scrawny, why you so scrawny?”
Haha love it
The one thing I’d say in defense of PF is that indeed there should be no grunting if it’s NOT a deadlift or some comparable lift.
I don’t make noise and I see the guys that do some good heavy lifting at my gym make very little noise. Hell, Olympic lifters that hoist huge weights every four years for their country make less noise than some of the guys at my gym doing lateral raises.

Over the top grunting should be banned, but sometimes I let out a “psssshhhth” or a “urrrgh” when lifting heavy ass weight. Its not loud or over the top. But “lunking” someone whenever they make a sound is a little excessive.

I must say I’m not a fan of the Little Engines That Could in the gym…that’s the guys that make a “PSSSSSHHHHT!” piston-type sound every rep like they’re some sort of hydraulic press.
Also, if a guy makes the exact same sound each rep and always does an even number of reps (usually 8 or 10)then you sort of know that it was not necessary.
Fuck, I agree with PX - going to the gym is the popular thing nowadays. Even the nerdy graduate students have started talking about their workouts. What’s even weirder is I once over heard a 140lb dude telling a sloppy 260lber how to curl.

There was a guy in my regular gym who would shout “Yes!” at the end of every successfully completed rep.

I agree with this. Even when I’m deadlifting 405 I generally don’t make much noise except proper breathing for lifting. If I do more, there might be a small grunt forced out but I never want to be “that guy”
I only grunt when in excruciating pain OR deadlifting (a good grunt is necessary when it takes several seconds to even get it off the floor) , and it isn’t over the top for what I feel like. However you are just being an attention whore if you grunt just to grunt…

When I first saw QFT around I reasoned that the person saying it was agreeing with the quoted post so I thought it stood for “Quite Fucking True”!
Shit, until recently I thought that QTF meant Quit Fucking Talking. I would always flip out when I saw that someone responded to a post of mine with QTF, which I usually thought was a well-put post.
LOL

Agreed.
I force myself not to make any noise because it always sounds like some half-girly moan. And my regular voice is pretty low so I don’t know where that thing comes from.
I disagree with all of you…
When I was working out late at night/empty gym. Another guy and I would yell hoot and holler and grunt growl to get psyc’d up for heavy lifts. It was fun. Sometimes we would carry on like Ronnie Coleman. Specially after breaking PR’s and stuff. Which I might not have done if I was not being a wise ass. Once you do it and you are having fun doing it you might want to do it more often. There should be no alarms saying don’t get into what your doing. I think people should stop paying attention to others and start doing for themselves. Just my five cents.

Here’s your change: $0.03
There was a Mexican guy in my gym one time who would count in Spanish every rep, but he would drag out the number in a raspy half-whisperr.
Unnooooooo
Dooooooooos
Treeeeeeeees
I had a hard time not laughing during my sets.

You are better off conserving your energy and concentrating on your work, instead of growling and grunting and carrying on.
The gym is not a circus. If you want to go act like a clown, then I suggest you join a circus.
Keep your 5 cents.
