More Movies You've Watched This Week

It’s funny you mention this because once of the concerns about this movie was that it was being filmed at the time of the writers strike. There was an article I read recently that pointed out that one of the reasons why some of our Geek movies this Summer have been so disappointing was that the stories/scripts were still being worked on during the time of the writers strike. Wolverine, Terminator: Salvation and Transformers 2 were all having rewrites and script work done during the strike, so you can see that weakness on screen.
That makes sense… The movie really did seem like a bunch of ideas and scenes thrown together… Somehow unfinished etc.
Star Trek, on the other hand, was written and mostly done well before the writers strike happened, so that’s one of the reason why it was so much better. Well and that JJ Abrams is a better director apparently.
Thanks for reminding me of Star Trek. I haven’t seen it yet, got some time on my hands though…
The article went on to say that we’ve almost gotten through all of the movies that were worked on during the strike, so the quality should be a bit better going forward.

From what I read, the two that got hit were supposed to have ‘died’, but we’ll see if that’s really true since that’s really not confirmed on screen. My disappointment with Arcee and the Twins was that they were both supposed to be combiners. It would have been nice to see them combine during the final battle. Oh well…
Yep. Well, maybe they’ll be repaired and revamped in the third movie… If a trash-can-decepticon can have a rocket launcher, then those bikes should be able to carry a railgun each ;D
The rumor is that Bay won’t do the third film, so as long as they don’t let someone like McG or Brett Ratner do it, the third one might actually have a little more substance to it, as far as story and humor anyway.
Ohohohoho, I can see the headlines already:

"Uwe Boll to direct the third Transformers movie!"

(and Jesus wept)

… Hmmm. Then again, if Boll were to direct… He got Kristanna Loken to do a topless scene, so maybe he’d be able to convince Megan to do something naughty for a change…
Don’t get me wrong though, I still thought it was entertaining. It was just lacking a bit for me.
Same here.

I got on a “false reality” kick and watched The Matrix, The 13th Floor and Dark City. Dark City is very strange and most people I know don’t like it, but I love weird ass movies. Plus Jennifer Connelly looks great in it. The 13th Floor takes a little while to get going but is also an odd one.
Dark city…

-----------Possible spoilers:---------------

Was that the one where everyone sort of falls asleep/into a coma at a certain time and those weirdos move out to give people new personalities? Been ages since I’ve watched it…
I thought it wasn’t bad at all, but yeah, weird… (hell, that’s why I watched it in the first place)

-----------/end spoilers--------------------

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li - Terrible. The only way this could have been worse was if Uwe Boll would have directed it, and even then it would have only been slightly worse. Chris Klein is an horrifically terrible actor and waste of space. The only reason why I finished the movie is because Kristen Kreuk is beautiful.

12 Rounds - I liked this movie better the first time I saw it, when it was called Die Hard: With a Vengeance. Seriously, when they looked at the script for this movie, nobody thought, “Hey, isn’t this is pretty much a direct ripoff of one of the Die Hard movies?”

Marie and Bruce - Worst dialog I’ve seen in a movie in a while. From the first moment the characters start to speak, you are annoyed and put off. Sets the record for the number of times the word ‘darling’ is said in a conversation…annoying said, at that. Julianne Moore and Matthew Broderick are completely wasted in this piece of crap.

The Education of Charlie Banks - Didn’t hold my interest at all and I’m not sure why the title of the movie contains ‘Charlie Banks’ when I felt like the movie was more about Mick’s character. Fred Durst isn’t proving to be a good director so far. This isn’t surprising since his music was terrible as well.

I was about to go to bed last night when The Girl Next Door came on. I’d never heard of the movie or the actual crime that inspired the book that inspired this movie… wow, just horrific.

It is a rendering of a crime in 1965 in which a housewife tortures a 16-year-old girl in her care. She also coerces her children and several other neighborhood children to take part in the torture. I kept thinking it couldn’t get any worse, and it kept getting worse.

Watchmen - Saw it last night, Watchmen sucked. It was way too boring and way too long. Special effects were decent. I’ll go read the novel again…

I think the audience just got bored easily. Aliens kidnapping humans and running tests on them until one happens to be able to resist their programming and also has their same mental powers…is pretty damn close to the Matrix underlying story.

This was the first movie I ever bought on DVD, that must be something like 20 years ago. lol

Maybe I’ll watch it again one of these days.

stepbrothers - wack. nooooot funny.
semi-pro - wack but i love andre benjamin and woody harrelson. some funny parts.

I watched the Band of Brothers series and loved it!!Also some of Terminator Salvation.

Just re-watched Boogie Nights. I forgot how much I really like this movie.

From esplatter:

Hmmm… I might just end up watching that movie…

Since I think I’ve seen other people talk about shows in this thread…

I finished catching up on Breaking Bad, and it might be my new favorite show. Every episode is tense as hell, so many different threads to the plot and yet it’s not confusing at all. The show is just amazingly written. I cannot wait for the third season. highly recommend people watch this one, find the episodes online!

Watched Outpost (military/horror) and Deadgirl (horror I guess, not the same movie as The Dead Girl) recently…

So, outpost is a low-budget movie but that’s not really noticeable… Very realistic washed out brown, green, grey look… Some surprisingly good actors in there considering the budget.

Won’t spoil the movie here, I semi-liked it… Bit slow and yeah well, you’ll see for yourself… It’s a straight-to-DVD release I think, I wasn’t really “satisfied” at the end, I have to say.
If you have 90 minutes of spare time and really nothing to do, give it a shot…

Now, Deadgirl…

Ew.

Double ew.

-----------spoiler alert------------

This is supposed to be some sort of critique on society… Specifically, teenage boys who will do anything to get some…

Well, I’m sorry, I have a hard time believing that even the most horny teenage boy would want to screw a decaying, un-washed zombie girl (which is oozing pus from several gunshot wounds as well…).
I don’t know if the guys at least used condoms… lol
Thankfully, there was no scene of any of them going down on the thing…

Jesus christ… I can see the whole “oh cool, we can get some whenever we want” etc aspect, but still… Would have made more sense to me if, instead of using a zombie, the producers/writers/director had opted for a catatonic girl or so (would fit in with the “we found her in the cellar of an abandoned mental institute” -setting).

The good thing: There is no humor in this movie (except for perhaps a very brief scene involving one of the 2 friends - the one who kind of thinks that he owns the girl -, a very unfriendly dog threatening said boy while standing on the zombie-girl’s stretcher… And the girl’s teeth. Well, the funny part is the music and expression of the boy afterwards, but it’s not really all that amusing.
The really funny part is where some jock tries to shove his dick into the zombie girl’s mouth after the “owner” said she’d like it… And she ends up biting. Ouch. I hope this movie won’t give the real female population of this world any funny ideas).

The lack of humor is good because I’m getting fed up with horror-comedies.

----------------/end spoilers--------------

Someone suggest some good movies to me right now… I’ve got to get Deadgirl out of my mind.
Please?

Saw Public Enemy (Johnny Depp) Thursday night. It was okay. Long. Very long. Wouldnt see it again, that for sure.

Really? I thought it would be a great movie with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. Any reason why you thought it was just ok?

transformers imax - i liked it better than the first. the beginning was great.
priceless - not as romantic or comedic as i suppose it was meant to be.

I semi agree with you BodyBldg. I saw it last night and it was a good movie no doubt about it. I mean, Michael Frikin Mann is behind it. (for those of you who dont know he directed Heat, Collateral, The insider, Ali,) The onll downfall is there wasn’t anything spectacular about it. You’ve got Christian Bale and Johnny Depp both have records that speak for themselves. It’s well acted, it’s intelligent, but it’s nothing new. Some of the bank robbing scenes aren’t nearly as violent as they could be.

Ya, I saw that movie. Very disturbing. I wouldn’t watch it again.

Agreed. Watched it a few weeks ago. The movie An American Crime was based off the same event. Both films are very shocking and very sad.

up - it was a great movie. the title fits. it inspires you to live in the now and cut ties from the past.
