It goes w/o saying that Mr. Rip has forgotten more than I’ll ever know. But over time I have come to discard most if not all of his squat cues for other points of view; I will admit that if my goal is to squat the most weight in a powerlifting setting I’d think differently. I unequivocally find his pov that his way is The Best Way (probably need to use all caps there honestly) regardless of goals to be off putting at best.

I’ve been stalling about buying the Starting Strength book because I didn’t think that there was anything new in it for me but due to your description I think I’ll get the book. I go to the Starting Strength site sometimes for good training tips and great interviews. Do you think the TRX training adds to your strength? I did an introduction to TRX with an instructor but I am not sure if I want to purchase the TRX. My question is how will the TRX add to my powerlifting? Is the TRX worth the investment?[/quote]
Thanks for stopping in gorilla.
Personally I wouldn’t buy a TRX system, at least not right now until I see the value. I’m liking it for deload and mobility work. There are some useful core exercises as well. I also see that it’s overpriced based on the materials and hype. Betting within six months there will be lots of cheaper options.

Yes, Rip is a cranky, opinionated old bastid.
I haven’t totally bought into the low back squat with a hip drive/good morning out of the hole. Seems a little extreme, but I’ll test it out. I’m more of a Wendler style of driving the chest up. Maybe one in the same.
5’s week
Deadlifts:
Bar by some
135 x 10 sumo
185 x 5 sumo
225 x 5 conventional
255 x 5 sumo
295 x 5 conventional
330 x 5 conventional
330 x 3 sumo
Calf work
Bench Press:
Bar x some
135 x 10
185 x 5
210 x 5
240 x 5
275 x 6
Was down with a fever for the last two days. Loaded up on antibotics and felt good enough to lift today.
Had to double up on Deads/Bench because I missed yesterday. No time for accessories.
I’ve been hitting a lot of PR’s over the last two cycles and I think it’s catching up a bit. May need some more active recovery time. This is the start of a new wave and I may run it for two cycles. We shall see.
Brother, that’s some good work coming off of a fever! I’m thinking it must be nap time after that.

Thanks OG. I’ve had lot’s-o-nap time over the last few days. Should be wired to the gills. Today’s workout sucked and I was in a cold sweat all day, which isn’t attractive on a bald guy at work.
I could hold my chin up if I at least puked in the shower but didn’t push it hard enough. A few more sets of Deads would have done it. Wish I had a prowler at my place.
In any case, I’ve taken what Fisher said in Jacks thread to heart. I’ve been pushing overhead presses wayyyy to hard. Big, dumb ego trip in pressing BW overhead and it’s messing with my Bench progress. So I’m modifying my Friday’s Press day to be accessory day.
This place rocks in many ways.
Still checking in on your log daily my friend.
Back in the “supermodel” era, Linda Evangelista was famous for saying that she never got out of bed for less than $10,000. Don’t know if that’s an urban myth or not, but if I ever got out of bed to start a log again I’d call it “Supermodel Training” because I don’t go to the gym if I’m at less than 90% (well maybe 80 lol). In my favor, I will say I haven’t been away from a gym (or dojo back in the day) for more than 2 weeks at a time, in almost 3 decades.
Translation: damn that’s some hard effort OP!

OP I have walked 100 miles in those shoes! I was doing the same and stopped about 2 weeks ago to take stock in my training and where it wasn’t going…Good on you for stepping back and evaluating, honestly, what you were doing. And definitely nice a to have a Fischer around to drop knowledge bombs!
Random, but… I was taking a look into your log and I noticed your avatar looks like it was taken at the gym I train at - Gregory Gym.
Looks like you’ve made nice progress. Keep it up!
Wow, great pic!
So, what are you doing for bench? Are you going to bench twice a week with OHP as strictly assistance?
cool pic dude.
Still camping at the base. Around 4500ft. Think I’ll fish today. Home tomorrow.
I got vertigo looking at that pic.
And how does one camp at 4500ft and still log on to the internet?
Flashing the “T” I dig it, brother! Hey, how was the fishing?

As a matter of fact, yes! Say hi to Jonathan, Pricilla, and David for me. They probably don’t remember me. Great place and I got a lot of excellent coaching there for a few weeks.
Also spent some time over at Hyde Park Gym. Now living in the SF Bay area.

Thanks Jack.
I’m going to use my old formula which was working. Push higher % on singles once a month and get a little more volume. Going to use MP day as accessory and avoid going over 80% on those.

Thanks for stopping in Joe. Yeah I could barely stand up for that photo. I learned alot about myself this week. And at my age that’s a good thing.

I had vertigo several times on that hike. Most of it from trying to adjust from the altitude. I’ve spent the last 25 years living near sea level.
I was getting one bar on my phone, but had to hike to a certain spot, and hold my arm at the right angle to get it.

Fishing was awesome on Wednesday. We slayed em.
Caught 48 Bass between the 4 of us. We just couldn’t stand to let them suffer under the ice all winter.
