Moral Poverty Cost Blacks in New Orleans
Gregus wrote:

Amazing hypocrisy. When others called the original author that forced this topic an Uncle Tom, all we got were responses about how ignorant those posters were for not acknowledging specifics in the post. Here, you do the same only on the opposing fence apparently, and you can’t see the crippled mentality in that action?
vroom wrote:
Wow, what a piece of work you are. If the author can reach a few people and get them to be more understanding of the issues involved and perhaps not be so quick to judge, then he’s achieved his goal.
Then if it was an attempt to keep people from rushing to judgement, then why wasn;t there a mention of the fact that NOLA’s illustrious mayor was blaming Bush instead of doing his fucking job?

You are soooooo wrong here it is not even funny. But that is to be expected from an idiot that thinks if everyone sits under his thinking tree and understands his fellow man, that it would have saved a single damn life in NOLA.

Symbolism over substance - that should be your motto.

No - but touchy-feely bullshit articles like this is.

What? Do you think those people were in that position in the first place (the inability to even afford transportation) because of the mayor? Did you even read that post? Can you even understand it?

Blaming a white guy? This isn’t even about just blaming Bush. It is, however, about a problem that won’t disappear by ignoring that the roots of it go beyond “ignorant bastards that were too helpless to help themselves”.
I didn’t see him blame any black folks. The problem in this situation is not the ignorance of the white man. It is the “let’s all share the blame for the poor, misunderstood black NOLA resident” that is the real problem.

What did I do that caused the damn Mayor to leave the busses untouched, and unused? What did I do that caused the half-witted governor to sit on her fucking hands for 3 days? I don’t think it is too far off base to call the able bodied folks that didn’t leave ignorant.

FYI - the “poor” I was referring to was not a comment on their economic status, I was expressing pity.

There may well be some problems, but to blame a white guy eating a chimichanga won’t help. Neither will any of the other touchy-feely bullshit articles. If you can’t see the oppotunism that is going on here, you are far more gullible than I thought.

No, you are far more focused on race than I even gave you credit for. Congratulations.
rainjack wrote:
Nice piece of touchy-feely bullshit. How many fucking lives did the emotionally in-touch author save? So where does he get room to even open his pie hole if he is telling others what to do?

It’s shit like that that is an utter waste of time.

Why get angry at a person that is hundreds of miles away from the disaster? You should be getting mad at the inept leaders of an inept state and an inept city.

I can see where blaming a white guy eating a chimichanga hundreds of miles from NOLA would make you feel better, though. Almost as good as blaming Bush, huh? Blame anyone but the poor, ignorant bastards that were too helpless to help themselves.
Democracy means that everybody has the right to speak. If you think only the poeple who agree with you have the right to speak, you’re more into democracy Saddam style.

Are you?

Why did you open your PIE hole. A big mouth and a small brain doesn’t qualify you to open your pie hole.

You’re a disgrace man. Let’s hope next time your house gets hit with a nice hurricane.

Have you EVER considered that perhaps they are poor, and ignorant because they can’t help themselves? Have you? Of course not, you’re just to stupid and self centered to show ANY empathy.

Or are you implying perhaps poor and helpless people shouldn’t be helped at all. You wouldn’t be the first you know. Hitler and Stalin were there decades before you.

You sir, are pathetic.

Why don’t you read the article again and make a genuine effort to understand it. You would become a bigger man you know.

Yeah, he should only be allowed to open his pie hole if he blames black folks. That democracy rainjack style.

I dunno, did you want them to WALK out? Did you want them to leave their family behind. Seriously, how would you have reacted if black able people walked out leaving their children, elderly or disabled family members behind. You would have had a field day wouldn’t you?

No you didn’t. You know the word, but not the concept.
You’re the one deserving pity.

Opporturnism? Are you talking about the contract to Haliburton?
Professor X wrote:

I’ve been villified my entire adult life because of my color and/or sex. That’s right. I’m a WASP male. When I smell the bullshit on someone’s shoe - and you know the smell I’m talking about. The stench of racism. No one has to come out and use the N word for you to be able smell it when it applies to you, right? You’r enot the only one in town with that particular sense.

I smell it all over this guy’s article. Pardon me for not being one that is ashamed of his race.

Whether you want to be honest enough to admit it, or not - this entire thing is way more about race than it has ever been about a hurricane or a flood.

Wreckless -

Please show where I prevented the author from voicing his opinion.

For those of you that are as dimwitted as wreckless: Freedom of speech guarantees one the right to say what they want. It does not guarantee that one will be agreed with, or even listened to.

I have the exact same right as you to express myself. Do I give a flying fuck if you, or vroom, or ProfX agree with me? I think you know the answer to that. Have I ever told anyone that they don’t have the right to speak or express themselves here? I have invited many people to leave the site and never return, but I have never silenced anyone.

Then why the wadded panties over the fact that I think this author is full of shit?

I can see why Prof is taking issue with my position, but the first amendment has never been in question wrt that particular conflict.

vroom has marginalized himself as just being a complete dumbass these last few days. But in the middle of all that neither of us has taken issue with the other’s right to speek.

But you. You take issue with a non-issue, and try to make it a constitutional problem. And you are horribly wrong.

The article wasn’t about the problems around hurricane response. It wasn’t pointing the blame in any direction at all. It was pointing out the incredibly ignorant attitude of the person eating with his well off friends.

Maybe if the article was about the assignment of blame, at all, it would have talked about blame.

The problem is, you only see this as a race issue and a blame issue. There is a lot more going on here than that, and the article was in that extended scope.
You are soooooo wrong here it is not even funny. But that is to be expected from an idiot that thinks if everyone sits under his thinking tree and understands his fellow man, that it would have saved a single damn life in NOLA.

Symbolism over substance - that should be your motto.
Too bad you are too stuck in your mindset to such a degree that you can’t even read the article for what it contained. Instead, you have to characterize it as an assignment of blame.

Your jibes against me, which are really off the mark, just show your incredible ignorance. Feel free to continue.

Once again, in case you missed it, the article in question isn’t talking about assigning blame for problems in New Orleans. It’s talking about amazing ignorance, which you show boatloads of, and a blame the victim mentality from people that have no real understanding of the situation.

If you disagree with that, then simply discuss your viewpoint already. There is no need to bring out the nukes and start lobbing.

Also, I’m guessing here, but the problems you ascribe to being white are very easy to avoid, if you aren’t in fact ignorant and biased. You do realize that right?
vroom wrote:
That is the issues I see in that article. That and the manufactured attitude of rich people named Buffy.

And the race issue was brought up, in case you too involved in feeling superior to those that call bullshit on articles like this.

But please - do tell me what you think the real issues are in the article.

You love to call me ignorant. Just because you say it doesn’t make it true. Neither does not wanting to sit under the thinking tree and pontificating about how it is my problem that the mayor pretty much stranded everyone left behind in order to get some face time on TV.
rainjack wrote:

That’s a lie. There were not many blacks that owned slaves. There were some. Not many.

7 Pages on this thread. Over 120 posts and basically all that article has done is fuel the debate and caused more problems. Well, it also helped Professor X get to 4000 posts.

SlimJim posted a polished piece. SO did Rhino at the start of this. But honestly, what has it done…nothing.
Both pieces make good points, but they also are damaging. You can’t solve or even touch on the problems of race, poverty, immorality, etc. in a fucking article, post or television program.

It’s funny. Everyone gets SOOO close on here to coming together. One side is right…there are people that abuse welfare and want handouts. There were people in New Orleans (white and black) who were waiting for the government to save them. BUT NOT EVERYONE. That’s the key. You can’t lump all these people together. Then you have the other side who is offended the minute they hear blacks spoken in a negative way and speak up and NEVER admit that there is some truth in what they don’t want to hear.

There are lazy whites. There are lazy blacks. There are whites who sit on their ass and get welfare and live off the USA. There are blacks who sit on their ass and get welfare and live off the USA.

For a black man to write an article as he did takes courage. But, he failed. Ironically, he was lazy. He wrote a half ass article. It’s easy to lump everyone together and put in some statistics and voila!

Slim Jim’s article does the same. Cute way of getting the point across with the mexican food, american Buffy, and the negative comments amid prayers, but that’s basically doing what the first article did. It’s saying that everyone who prays and tried to lead a good life is talking bad about people down South. Well, isn’t that why people pray? We are humans and we sin and anyone who prays fucks up everyday and needs God to help them.

I guess I really wonder if anyone wants to really fix the problem on here. I don’t think so.

I said it before…You know what will solve all this crap…interracial marriage. That’s when you get to know someone and when getting your info from Jerry Springer or trying to educate the minds of every white guy on a bbing site seems distant.

You love that person for who they are, not their color.

But, continue
quoting
every fucking word you don’t agree with and nitpicking every post because you really believe it’s helping.

I never said you prevented him from speaking. I said you questioned his right to speak. And you did. You said “Nice piece of touchy-feely bullshit. How many fucking lives did the emotionally in-touch author save? So where does he get room to even open his pie hole if he is telling others what to do?”

You live in this perfect neat world where the rich can get away with everything, and the poor get what they deserve.

You’re the guy wearing the Brooks Brothers shirt, aren’t you? I guess the article was just to close for comfort hey rainjack?

Manufactured attitude? If, that attitude, has been expressed right here on these boards, from people that aren’t named Buffy.

To agree with Oogie in a very minor way, the article isn’t saying that everyone acts that way or thinks that way.

To disasgree with Oogie in a huge way, pointing out why such thinking is not helpful or is not useful does have value as well.

The pieces, all of them, serve to get people to think. The alternative is simply not to think at all and remain ignorant.

Anyhow, I don’t know where this thinking tree idea comes from. I think people are ascribing attitudes to me because of my icon… which I like because it has a Matrix like aspect to it… with what appears to be a cable connected directly to the head.

People aren’t ignorant because they are called ignorant, they are ignorant because of what they do, or more likely don’t, think or consider before they open their mouths.

He was pointing out the hypocrisy in the point of view that is shared by many in this country, and, apparently, yourself included. I’ve seen you applaud some of the most touchy feely bs on this board as long as it toed the Bush party-line. What the hell is an ABBer? I keep seeing you throw that out there but have no idea what it is, but all you GWBAKers seem to use it.

Who do you think sold the black slaves to the white man and to the Arabs?

Blacks were the operators of step one of the slave trade. Not PC but true.

Plenty of blame to go around.

That’s not the point. He claimed many blacks owned slaves and he’s wrong about that.

Besides, if you want to start about Africans selling other Africans in slavery, you should also point out that these slave wars were activily encouraged by Europeans and Americans.

That description would fit me. ABB, yeah, that’s me.

I don’t think he’s evil though. I think he’s just so stupid that he’s dangerous. It’s like letting the six year old drive the family car.

I’ll tell you something I discovered a couple of years ago. There are not many evil people in the world. Some, but not many.

Most damage is done by stupid people. Stupid people painting themselves into a corner and doing evil deeds to shift the blame. Or should I say, blame Plame?
You would have to be VERY VERY evil to be able to do more damage than a VERY VERY stupid person.

A Bush is VERY, VERY, VERY stupid.

Let me give you one example. One of his unqualified cronies was put in charge of Fema and screwed up.
Bush told people he would take responsibility for that. I doubted it al along.
What does this stupid mf do the next week, he nominates another unqualified crony of his to the supreme court.
He doesn’t consider this evil. He doens’t have a master plan. He doesn’t think this is cronyism. This is just his stupid, silly way.

The moron fucks up every chance he gets.

ABB. You’re damn right. All the way man.
