Monkeying Around

Thanks Rick. Good chance I might take you up on that. There are a lot of APF meets in your neck of the woods, and from what I hear well run too boot. I might just look for one in the late summer/fall to work it in with a trip to see the in-laws with the new baby.

Tonight made the long drive to my new home. It was extra long due to a jack-knife semi in the middle of the Twin Cities busiest traffic strip.

Eschewed squatting tonight since I was late, and needed a fucking break, and just might not be squatting anyway at this meet. Will pick it up again next week, and still see where I am at full gear, and may make a last minute decision re full power vs push/pull.

Conventional DL 225 x 5, 315 x 5, 405 x 3, 455 x 2, 495 x 2, 545 x 2, 525 + 2 pair chains x 2, 525 + 3 pair chains x 2, 525 + 4 pair of chains x 2 (+30 lbs from last week).

Leg raise 6 x 20

Got done exactly what needed to be done. Everything is still submaximal, but heavy enough to provide the training effect I am looking for. Next week will up the weight, and the volume a bit though. I am really digging working with doubles, I have allways been more of a singles, triples or fives guy. The way we treat doubles also is exactly like two singles, in squat, bench, and dl. Once I get to triples I am usually doing a ‘set’, and not concentrating as much on set up.

Kid woke up hoarse and with a nasty cough today. Want to rush in tomorrow to the commercial gym for upper back work, but we will see if he feels well enough for the child center. Otherwise will get the work done throughout the week.

Also please note I intended to state ‘I am intended to have a total above 2000 this year’. Not about. 2100+ baby.

Edit function ain’t working and my use of the English language is atrocious after lifting: “I am determined to have a total above 2000 this year.” There.

Ha, at least you didn’t walk the gods. Anything above 2000 would be freakin’ huge.

Jack, saw that in your log. LMFAO. I used to have a Tshirt that read ‘beware of god’. really pissed people off.

I have read a few say their IQ drops whenever they lift. Considering my training schedule, I am not sure I ever give it time to go back up, lol. To think I was once accepted to grad school…

At the ‘new’ place an ‘objective’ board was placed up. Each member has to list their 2010 objectives. Mine reads as follows: ‘Get a job, bench 700, dl 705, squat???’. With my most recent raw max around low to mid sixes I should be able to gearwhore that up over 8. Just need to get that groove going. Don’t think it will be in time for February 20th though.

30 minutes elliptical

The Blue Book of grammar and punctuation clearly states (or should) anyone capable of a 2000 or over total can use the english langauge any damn way they want. Huge lifts.

Thanks Harry.

Ran off to the gym after the wifey got home to do a quick assistance session. Last few weeks I have been doing this early in the day, before any stiffness comes in from Monday nights escapades. Not so lucky today. But happy with what did happen.

TBar rows 7 plates x 15, 7 plates and 25 x 8

Shrugs worked up to 675 x 10 (cheater straps on)

Preacher curls 5 sets 6-15 repss

Hammer curls 70s x 8, 95s x 8

face pull/cable abs 4 sets 10-15 each

I am at page 45, guessing this thread is going to limit out soon. Trying to think of name for new thread, open to suggestions. ‘Old, Unemployed, Gearwhore posts Log?’

I like it. What is it, 46 pages and it locks?

Also, I am thinking about playing around with chains or bands on deads. I am leaning towards chains, cause I think I might be able to scrounge some up around here, and it seems like you can judge how much weight you are adding a little easier. Any thoughts on this for an intermediate lifter?

Not trying to step on Pete’s toes at all but I really think the EFS short line(bands) is awesome. I have the monster mini’s and I am ordering the light and average bands too. on the site under the bands they have the measured resstance by inch from 24-48 so real easy to program. I thinks bands by far cheap, light and portable.

And if you lift in a commercial fitness gym -good luck with the bands.

Rick

ps: on the name thingy for the log how about “Becoming Quidgeabo”

A Quidgeabo is a Rare (by Simpons terms) balding north-american-white-ape. Like I have room to talk.

Agree with Rick on the portability of bands. Just starting to play with the EFS short line as well. Noticed last night that the big yellow ones were being worn as head gear by some of my training partners.

For benching I find bands have given me more carryover, all in all, although they seem harsher on my shoulders while using them; exact opposite for squatting, in my meager squatting w/chains experience I get a much better carryover than bands. Pulling, well, unless you have the right set up, i.e. a jump stretch platform or something ingeniously rigged up like Meat’s platfrom, pulling against bands can be a nightmare to set up. The best I have come up with is a small stack of the hex plates at my gym commercial positioned on either side of the bar, threading the bands through the ‘handles’ of the plates. And that ain’t a dream either.

Jack, ultimate answer is you have to diversify. I ultimately have burned out on one or the other. Where I am training there are newbies using band tension and chains to up their lifts really fast. Shit works, with out a doubt. Bands might be easiest to start with. Regarding chains, the ones I am using originate from some sort of seafaring port in your neck of the woods, I can get details if you want.

And Fischer, you had to pull the Simpson’s card, didn’t you? Kinda like it though. And yeah, watch it, you are just a more narrow version of me.

i think bands are the way to go. don’t get caught up in worrying about the actual number of pounds that the bands add or take away. treat a band movement as something separate from a straight weight movmement. as long as the bands are set up the same way each time you can determine progress and set new PR’s. they will increase your straight weight sets and that’s all that really matters in the end.

20 minutes treadmille, 20 elliptical

Thanks for the input, all, on the bands and chains. I appreciate it.

Gym was a ghosttown today.

DE Bench 185 + dbl minis 2 x 3, 230 + dlb minis 6 x 3

Was going to do some sort of close grip but not even any douches to hand off.

Dumbell Incline 100s x 10, 125s x 9

Schwabs 225 x 10, 315 x 10, 365 x 6

Then did the following circuit

flys
rope down
rope extension
dips
barbell front raise
external rotation

4 sets 12-20 reps each

finished with hammer strength military 3 sets of 15 each. My shoulders are actually smaller than in the past. Guess that’s what happens when you don’t do any over head pressing.

Nice lifting Pete, hope everything picks up for you this year.

Ummmmm…What is a Schwaub ? And holy volume batman .

good solid lifting.

A schwab is JM press, which is basically a rolling tri done with a barbell, i.e. a really fucked up sloppy looking tricep extension that does actually build up your lock out huge. The thing with the Schwab (check out his log on Elite) it is done in the dreaded and much ridiculed Smith machine, which like spooning Meat, cuddling with Eco, or snuggling with Bunny (who is rarely around) is only ok when you don’t make eye contact and there is noone living to report it.

30 minutes of spirit crushing elliptical. While watching Diego. Will do some lower work at commercial gym tonight.

DE lower. Best lower session in a while, until I got to the Zerchers.

Reverse band squat to low box:

405 x 2 sets of 2
455 x 3 sets of 2
495 x 5 sets of 2

The 495 was moving real fast, will up considerably next week, and run a 3 to 4 week DE cycle with these. Knee felt okay, little iffy last couple of sets, but overall was happy.

Wide stance GMs worked up to 455 x 6, with still some left in the tank

Zerchers 225 x 5, 315 x 3 (was off center on the bar), 315 x 3, feet too close together, plus I suddenly sprouted a vagina.

Then did a circuit of back extensions, bulgarian split squats, and ab wheel, 5 sets of 15-20 each. Did in about 12 minutes, was huffing and puffing.
