I have never, in my entire life, even suggested that the US healthcare system is perfect or that there aren’t winners and losers under it. You’re such a binary thinker you can’t fathom the idea that issues are complex and people have nuanced takes on them.
I would rather have a truly free-market for profit health insurance system in the event of a costly medical issue because cost minimizations is built into the model. In other words, in order for the company to be profitable it needs to minimize costs like overhead (executive salaries) to be competitive with other providers.
We don’t have a free-market health insurance system. We have a heavily regulated healthcare system that forces people to be insured (or pay an additional tax), regardless of their risk, to pay for the elderly and sick. It’s a pyramid scheme created by lobbyists, politicians, and bureaucrats that damn near eliminated competition.
Our system would be 1,000x better if most services were point of sale and insurance was used for specific/costly events with insurers being in competition with providers everywhere in the world let alone across invisible state lines.
All of the above said, I absolutely do not support single-payer as the government suuuuuuuucks at managing everything and their involvement in healthcare has already made the system worse than it should be. Single-payer would eliminate insurance companies, but would require a massive increase in federal workers with ZERO incentive to minimize costs because a bunch of absolute goofballs think we can just print money to pay for everything and a ton of government contractors to subsidize the program. It would absolutely not be cost neutral. There is a less than 1% chance it would save people money despite what Bernie Sanders says because it would require doctors to be paid peanuts similar what is happening in the UK (never gonna happen) and for the government to not suck at their job (also never gonna happen).
If you are not convinced I would invite you to visit the closest VA hospital. If that’s to difficult imagine your local motor vehicle administration running healthcare and you’ll get the idea.
I literally do not give a fuck if the UK has a good or bad system. That’s them. Our government would not run healthcare like any other country does. We would do it the American way and half of Congress would make money off it, Big Pharm would still make billions, you still wouldn’t get to use Stem Cells, my taxes would increase, and you would have even less treatment options.

They have severe shortages of care, physicians, etc. Their physicians are paid garbage (many of them are striking).
I personally don’t want the lowly paid physician that was accepted just because they need doctors.
I wouldn’t let my dogs be operated on by most “free” healthcare doctors.

Healthcare is expensive in America for many reasons some of which are:
- It’s heavily regulated and competition is artificially suppressed.
- Insurance a legal requirement or you pay a fee (tax).
- We have the highest rate of chronic illness. People’s choices increase costs.
- We have the 3rd most populated country in the world requiring more resources than most countries on the planet.
- We have 10s of millions of illegal immigrants (more people than some countries) straining the system.
- Medical salaries are inflated, in part, because the cost of obtaining a BS through doctorate has gone up substantially. So have nursing degrees.
All of the above can be directly linked to government interference.
The solution. Give the government complete control… Insane.
For fucksake, we just lived through government intervention for COVID and some people want these same people fully in charge of healthcare?
