Modern Day LIfters

So the original strongmen and barbell men the men who started all this were liars… Is this what you are saying and all the photos from 1900 were photo shopped… and the legends of these men never really happened.
Who the fuck knows if some of them were liars or not? Unless you knew them personally and can attest to their integrity, then you have no idea. That’s why we have accountability in modern sports, so that claims can be independently verified.

Legends can also build up around people, grow, and spread without the person who performed the feat having anything to do with it.

I would like to see anybody, from any era, try to beat Andy Bolton’s 1008 pound pull from earlier this year.

x2

That was THE most amazing lift ive seen.

Lol really?

He’s strong (and fat) as fuck, and it’s an amazing pull, but that’s the most amazing lift you’ve ever seen?
Yes, yes it was.

yeah Id have to say, they probably werent that weight, maybe close to it, but not that weight, and all those lifts and diciplines are useless for what people want to accomplish anymore. its not “see if I can lift a 500 pound barrell” its “try to squat 1000”

No but if you can lift a barrel from the ground to your shoulder than your going to be one hell of a strong functional guy just because you can squat 1000 lbs doesnt mean you are a better athlete look at Brian Siders from this past WSM one of the worlds strongest powerlifters but his athletic ability his functional skill is horrible thats all I am saying I am not saying what the men of today have accomplished is not impressive I just think after looking at and learning of the original feats of strength from 100 years ago that we as a group of lifters world wide espeacially the NATURAL lifters should be much stronger than we me included.

What is the most amazing lift you have seen? Even Louie Simmons agrees that was one of the biggest things to happen in powerlifting in his lifetime.

Why are modern day lifters not as strong as the lifters from days of old such as…
Arthur Saxon at 210lbs body weight could lift a 300 lbs sand bag from the floor to overhead at arms length he could also Bent Press 370lbs.
Herman Goener Deadlifted 727lbs with one hand to full lock out, Louis Cry could shoulder a 400lbs barrel with one hand.

Thomas Inch made and lifted the 172lbs 2 and 1/2 inch pound dumbbell to overhead with one hand and no one since has matched him.
Milo Stienborn could get a 550 lbs bar on his back unnassited with no squat rack… squat the weight… and then safely lower the bar back to the ground, George Hackenschmidt would snatch a 198lbs barbell with one hand.

on.
I think all that stuff sounds cool and all. But- it’s shit that probably does not carry over well to a regular contested sport like PL, WL, or even strongman. I mean- how much did Herman Goerner deadlift with two hands? How much did Hackenschmidt snatch with two hands? How much Steinborn squat out of a rack?

On the lifts that are contested now AS they are contested now, lifters are getting better and better. The numbers are pretty clear about that.

Chad Aichs would put any of those old timers to shame.

That was the longest “sentence” I’ve ever read.
