DD,
That’s friggin’ sweet!
Reminds me of the Iron Shiek when he used to challenge his opponents to swing the Persian Clubs back in the day.

Woo hoo, guess who just rolled with downwarddog? Ladies and gentleman watch your arms and necks, she is a beast.
A beast with another stripe too, congrats!

Really? Is there video footage of this?

Yeah, magical isn’t it? It’s the first time I’ve rolled with another girl. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it’s not actually all that different from rolling with the smaller guys. It’s a little easier to keep closed guard when you’re around a smaller waist, but that was pretty much it. Maybe the difference will be more evident after I have more experience.
No, but they’re here all week, so maybe eventually. She stood up with all 145lbs of me in guard! I have yet to manage that feat with anyone. I also now know that I really really need to work on staying out of and getting out of side control.

I didn’t know who was the Iron Sheik, so I googled and found these awesome video clips:

We can shoot some video tomorrow.
Epic.
pch2 is impressive.

Check out the BJJ technical questions thread…I asked a question about side control.
Where do you train at? How long have you been doing BJJ for?
Sorry if you’ve already answered these before, but it’s late and I’m not in the mood to search through the thread ![]()
On another note, I start Kenpo classes on Monday.

I saw that, I’ll have to go through the thread when I have space to move about.
I’m in cleveland. Oh, not long at all, as of yesterday 2 months. I was looking for something and DD suggested fighting, and now I’m smitten.
De nada, all of the dirty little details are in my thread in the sorority if you’d like some entertainment.
Cool, we’ll need to see video of this for sure.
Did NAGA’s yesterday…first round (no-gi only for me) ran into a decent wrestler who wanted to take me down and sit on me, passed my guard when I tried an armbar and was up 4-0. Swept and passed with 20 seconds left to tie 4-4.
Overtime round he shoots a single which I anticipate and try to counter with an omoplata, unfortunately I don’t secure the arm as I roll…he pulls it out and gets 2 for the takedown and the win. Fucking wrestlers.

Yeah, maybe. But you have that irritating habit of running around the back…

pch2 and me gonna get it on.

This thread just got a hell of a lot better

Definitely.
Sheesh… I don’t know if I want to follow pch2’s thread/pic…
So I’ll keep it short and sweet…
almost 30 years of training. Muay Thai since 90, BJJ since 95 directly under Masters Ricardo Murgel and Flavio Behring. Kali since 97. Prior to 1990, Ko sutemi seiei kan karate (black belt), TKD/Choi Kwan Do, Ninjutsu directly from Stephan Hayes, high school wrestling, boxing in the Army. Owned three schools, one here in the states, two internationally. First MMA fight in 91.
Walked from MMA last year. Tendons in my left arm totally let go. No more BJJ for me. Came here to the forum because of the strength and conditioning discussion, then I find the combat sports forum! Hard to stay away from a bad habit.
Sheesh… I don’t know if I want to follow chokeu2’s history. It’s incredible to know that fighting has such longevity.
Speaking of longevity, just got back from a private with DD and her coach. The man is like a brick wall. We did basic escaping the mount. He makes it look easy; when DD is riding you though, it’s not.
Bump, scoot, bump, scoot, dear god get this weight off of me, bump, scoot, sweep.

I’m old… Just good stretchy genetics I guess…
In all my years of training, female fighters became so much better, so much faster because they didn’t bring ego, attitude to the mat; and they weren’t afraid to move their damn hips!
Good on you pch2! Great to see a woman going at it hard.
You remind me of a student that we had in our Brazilian school (Porto Algre specifically). She came in with her husband, and they trained the same days, same amount of time, etc. She progressed MUCH faster and became a senior purple in the time it took her husband to get his blue belt; and this is in a Brazilian school, so rank comes harder. At any rate, she ended up winning her class at the Southern Brazilian Championships in the purple category, and also took womens overall.
MMA is getting watered down in so many respects when it comes to male fighters. But I see the women fighters keeping the fine tradition of being technically competent alive.
Ironically enough, today’s class was escaping the mount. That’s almost 5 hours of escaping the mount today. After this, if you mount me and I can’t get out of it, you get a free shot.
I spent the afternoon with the girls and the night with boys. It’s way easier to both stay mounted and escape the mount on guys. The girls were lighter, and so they were easier to bump, but they also recover better. When you’re mounted once they get those hips turned it’s hard to stay on. It was just a strange observation I thought I’d share.

WOO HOO HOOOOOO! I’m back, baby! We finally got our computer back from Dallas, what a nightmare.
I’ve been peeking in on y’all occasionally from the public library’s computer’s & everybody is doing such great stuff!
I’ve been having so much fun in krav, and am actually in training to be an instructor. I was trying to get into an instructor school in San Antonio, but its too soon for me, my teacher says I’m not ready, so I’m still just training with the instructors at my school.
They are amazing, and so generous with their time and expertise. Teachers whose private lessons are too costly for me to afford are giving me lessons for free, which makes me even more determined to excel, to honor their generosity.
I’ve long suspected that training mostly with females has left me a bit soft (too bad I don’t have downwardog & pch2 here to train with!) so I’ve been training with just guys & I’m getting pounded like you wouldn’t believe, but its really helping me improve. Guys hit hard, but they can take it, too, which is nice.
I missed talking to y’all so much!
Parker, great to see you back in the thread. We’ve missed you.
How’s your shoulder? All healed up?
I’m looking forward to sharing the highlights from my Kenpo classes next week. Work’s been a killer this week, so I had to push things back.
