Thanks! Yes, I’ll continue to post here. Not sure how much I’ll be posting here in the Training Hub (I will be reading, as always), but I’ll definitely be posting in all of the UFC or any other MMA-related threads.

Like I said, this isn’t a permanent retirement, just a hiatus while we make the transition to home ownership.

It’s definitely a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

Tonight first hour, level 1, groin kicks, groin kick w/ strike to the back of the head, chokes.

2nd hour, level 3, played monkey in the middle (multiple attackers), then defense against handgun. I can reliably get the gun away from an attacker in front of me, but tonight for the first time I learned the defense against a gun in the ribs, where the attacker stands at your side. All I can say is, I’m a dead woman. Suck.

So I took my Gokyu test for Judo last night and got promoted. Past that my Judo training is coming along really well. I am working on a combination throw for the up coming tournament. I plan to addd two or three of these to my arsenal for offense.

It looks like this right now.
Kouchi Gari > Ouchi Gari > Ippon Seoinage

I figure that if the first two don’t have my opponent off balance, then the third one will.

Congratulations, Haney1, that’s wonderful!
Sounds like you’re on the road to victory.

Thanks. I have a whole lot of respect for you for going to krav. talk about every class being a beat down…

although your story on the gun reminds me of my escrima class I took a while back. We were doing knife training.

We were handed white t-shirt to put on and a red marker. One person took the marker(knife) and it was your job to disarm them with out getting cut. Every red mark was a cut.

It was a very eye openeing experience. I am pretty sure I would have died if it would have been a real knife.

That’s why you don’t even deal with it. Run, if you can, from a knife, because if you stand and fight you’re going to have to seriously dismantle the guy, and quickly.

You’re almost guaranteed to end up in jail, in the hospital, or both, or dead.

That’s true, FI. Ideally, you want to run, just get the hell out of there. I found myself in a situation a few months ago where I chose to do just that & when I told my krav teachers what I did, they said, good job, get out whenever the situation allows it.

But, for training purposes, I LOVE that red marker/white shirt idea. They have these cool training knives that shock you when they make contact, but they’re very expensive. The red marker/white shirt exercise should get the idea across very well without breaking the bank. I’m going to suggest it. Thanks, Haney1!

Agreed. I would never face off with someone who had a knife. In my opinion it is one of the worst weapons to deal with from a defensive point of view

Not a problem. Anything thing to help

I read this topic basicly every day, so i will post my training of yesterday:
Evening -Wrestling: working on double leg to back, and suplex from the mat 12 x 2m figths.
Night - Judo: Worked on diferent throws for time, moving and throwing. 4 x 4m with 10s rest with 4 diferent oponents. the i did more 4 x 4m by 4 of rest.

I keep the advice someone told, and i am working on mobility/flexibility every day.

Welcome, Ricardowesley, we’re glad to have you!

Awesome fun classes tonight. I’ve been away from training for almost a week, fevered & coughing up goo you don’t want to know about, but I’m back, baby!

Level 1 - front kicks, hammerfist, side hammerfist. I’m working on speed & I’ve noticed that power seems to just tag alongwith it.

Level 3 - ran a mile, then straight into punch defenses w/ counters, then roundhouse kicks to the head w/ both power & lead leg. Then punch combos including roundhouses to the head + head butts. Thai pads are heavy!

Fun drill (new to me)- yet another version of monkey in the middle: The “monkey” stands in the middle of 3-4 attackers, eyes closed & hands down while the attackers spin you around & push you back & forth, and the attackers periodically choke you & you defend in your disoriented state. The lights are off & the music is very loud. Frankly, I was kind of scared to try it, but it was fun!

Pull Ups - 3x MAX-REPS and 1x max-reps focusing in the full rom
5x5 90seg rest in
Pistol alternating with grip
PushPress superseted with Upright Row

Evening- wrestling, some ground work and invert suplex, FIgth 5x2m only ground, and 5x2 only standing, 30seg rest.

Nigth: Sleep like a drunk baby.

Miss Parker, you’re so radical!

The school where I’m at is more competition-oriented but Coach, he loves Gracie self-defense stuff best, like what you describe.

I get exhausted during sparring and I tell myself, “this is where Miss Parker’s fight begins!”

no, it doesn’t motivate me, but I do think of you fondly throughout the day!

Do you do supplemental strength training?

Today’s BJJ class:

drilled the scissors sweep + 2 variations.
then three 7 min sparring rounds

immediately after I did:
3 handstand holds, no wall support
7 chin ups
5 BW rows, heh, i was so weak at these, I thought I’d done 10 when I maxed out, then I realized I was on #5
the handles were set pretty low, but still!

Apparently I’m still not recovered from yesterday’s beat down with the 50# sandbag.

3 tough trainings in a row and I’m feeling good.

Tomorrow is my Rocky homage workout on the Philadelphia Art Museum steps. You guys, it’s gonna be awesome!
You know you always wanted to do it!
Any requests?

Sleep like a drunk baby! Hahaha! I can’t wait to use that one!

You’re sweet, downwardog, but training for competition is very impressive to me. I may spar with people who want to beat me, but when you compete you’re going at it with people who want to beat you up. Very different mindset. My hat is off to anyone who does competitions.

Yes, I love weightlifting, I usually do it twice a week. I have mostly relied on things like deadlifts, overhead or front squats, chins, rows & dips. Right now I’m doing the program from Alwyn Cosgrove’s martial arts conditioning program.

I like it, its good for a change. Somethings up with my shoulder though, I think I pinched a nerve or something. For “fun” we did this crazy stupid move in krav where you do a backward roll & end it by pushing yourself up like a handstandy-thing & I felt a weird twinge in my shoulder, then the next week my arms collapsed while doing handstand pushups (trying to anyway).

Now my shoulder always tingles & that arm is weak. Blech. I also run a couple of miles a several times a week, but just because they often make us run a mile in class & I want to be good at whatever we’re doing.

Are BW rows the one where you lay down on your back & row yourself up to stationary bar? Those are hard!

Tomorrow I’ll be singing the theme from Rocky! Go, downwardog, faster faster!

I wasn’t going to jump into this thread 1,000 posts behind, but I feel like I should help represent for the men since it seems like most of us are injured at the moment and the ladies are running the board :stuck_out_tongue:

Before I start posting daily workouts, I’ll give a little background on myself: I’m 25, 6’4", maybe 195-ish right now but I’ve fought everywhere from 170 to 205. I started out in Shorin Ryu karate when I was maybe 13 or so, and I’ve been training in boxing, kickboxing, and BJJ since about 19.

I’m training BJJ at Gracie Barra Arkansas under Brian Davis (black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr.), and I teach boxing and kickboxing classes there also.

I lift twice a week, deadlifts 3x5, power cleans 5x3, weighted chins and OH presses, two stand up classes and two BJJ classes per week.

Where in Arkansas? I was from El Dorado, the anus of the state, but made it up north off and on.

Welcome, Melvin! Looking forward to reading about your training.

Yeah, FI, I just read your shoulder thread. Glad to see you’re still on the mend. The brother of the owner of my krav school is a chiropractor & I’m seeing him tomorrow to try & get a clue about what the problem is.

I’m up in Batesville. I think I heard you mention the guys at West Little Rock on another thread, I’ve been training with Matt and Roli since before they opened the We$t$ide. They’re great guys.

Had a really good night of sparring last night. Some of the more experienced guys in the class are getting to the point that I can kind of let loose and get some hard sparring going, we beat the hell out of each other last night. Also found out the BJJ coach is going to be out of town next week, so I’m covering all those classes as well. I don’t mind though, I really enjoy teaching.
