Century Thai Pads must suck… fairtex or twins are only pads ive used.

flexibility is allllll about frequency. Stretch 2-3x a day. I moved the chair from my computer desk so i stay in yoga positions and stuff while im checking the internet loosened up my hip flexors a lot.

Like Eddie says in his book whenever he’s sitting down just chillin w/ friends he’s sitting in those poses or practicing his ‘squeezing power’ and miscellaneous stuff.

today:

Dips… worked up to 135 for 4setsx2reps(me)

I need a longer chain or to not have dips and pullups be my only ME movements. But i dont want to bench cause I dont have partners, board press stuff, chains, bands etc. Plus I already punch a lot thats a ton of horizontal movement… im worried about adverse effects on my joints which i have zero problem with currently (knock on wood).

Pullups… 20 L-pullups(bw), 45x8, 45x8, 75x8, 75x8
push press… 135x8,155x6, 155x8, 135x12
1 arm rows… 100x8, 115x8, 125x6, 125x 6

5 rounds x 3min each on the heavy bag drilled a LOT of shit in such a short time span. 30s active rest (jump squats, burpees, shadowboxing, mountain climbers), 30s. actual rest

then muay thai training, a lot of boxing and using boxing within a muay thai framework to set up kicks…

My kicks have gotten a LOT better but i felt incredibly non-explosive today with my hands I will credit the lifting I earlier but i hope it doesn’t have any detrimental effects. (like my nervous system learnign to be slower or some shit). I kept my mechanics proper though. And my kicks were great, so im pretty positive it was just fatigue.

will be fighting in the TBA-SA Amateur Muay Thai world Classic- http://www.tbasanctioning.org/

so training for that, one more fight before hand at least…april 12th MAYBE, if I dont get matched up w/ someone then im going to a lupe fiasco concert for free on USC campus if any of you are in los angeles :-p

but there’s definitely a fight for me in may so that will be a nice tune up. right b4 the jouly tourney.

Weigh ins are day b4, I’m 170 now if I start cutting from here on out i could like 145 for the tourney. i’d be the strongest 145’er EVER lol

Yeah they should last a lot longer than 6 months. Century don’t really know how to make equipment from my experience. Get a good Thai brand like Twins, Windy or Boon etc.

I’ve got a preview of tomorrow’s UFC Ultimate Fight Night 13 up at www.wrestlingobserver.com

Fighting Irish I feel you, I dont like to talk when we’re training unless its extra relevant. I’ll be jovial or whatever while we’re just warming up but if you’re holdin pads for me tell me a correction or whatever but dont try and hold a conversation and discuss fucking martial theory with me just hold the fucking pad up. If i dont pivot enough, say it, and move on.

DE Lower:

Jump squats… 45x6, 65x6, 95x6, 95x6
Power Cleans… 135x3, 155x3, 185x3, 225x3

max was 275 last time i remember attempting, all time best 315… my emphasis is on bar speed here. I hadn’t lifted weights (traditionally) for quite some time (Till i started posting again actually) movement that really brought my power clean back up (i dont train the power clean regularly at ALL) is the snatch pull. For me personally when i snatch pull and power snatch my clean goes up a LOT.

lunges… 135x 16, 155x8, 185x8, 225x8
hanging pikes… 14, 12, 8, 8
standing ab crunches…whole stack, 5x10

5 rounds bagwork, 30s rest
5 rounds c2 rower, 1 min rest (heart rate above 180)

Muay Thai later.

holy fucking hell thats all i have to say about tonight.

10 rounds of padwork
10 rounds of sparring

O. M. G. MY BFF JILL. I H.E.W (hurt everywhere)

Xen,
How long are the rounds you’re doing?

Grappling 30 min 5 on two off w/ two guys switching in
All the following are BW
Pull-ups 6X8
Horizontal Pull-ups 6X12
Push-ups 6X35
Jackknife Push-ups 6X12
Then a good stretch, I noticed grappling I have a flexibility imbalance, my right leg is much more flexible than my left.

Well, I’m getting ready to head off to the UFC Fight Night show. I’ll be taking my camera and will post any cool photos I get here later.

I’ll also have news and notes from the post-fight press conference up at www.wrestlingobserver.com later in the evening.

3min rounds, 1min in between for padwork, 30s. in between for sparring

Alright DJWolfpack. You were there. Alexander VS Irvin, legit stoppage or not? I say, one of the sweetest KO’s Ive seen in a while, what are you saying.

Legit. Superman punch definitely rocked Alexander. Irvin missed one punch on the ground, but the second landed and the third and final punch was a solid shot. Alexander’s head bounced back off the canvas.

I think Karo had more of complaint in his fight than Alexander.

Overall a great night. I’ll post more details and some photos tomorrow.

I used to enjoy the way Karo fought, but I’m tired of listening to him whine like a little girl every time he gets a hold of a mic

lol…I was just waiting for Karo to come over and grab the mic or something.

My training schedule has been out of whack for two weeks now…I started working my rotation of night shifts,I hate it…but gotta make money to train…I will survive.

My weekly classes have been cut in half…so I will take advantage and concentrate on getting really conditioned…and slowly dropping weight. I received my Precision Nutrition Kit…I feel this will be a great asset to me right now.

Don’t know if I’ll be able to compete in Relson Gracie Tourney@Baylor on the 26th because of my work schedule :frowning:

I won’t get into a play-by-play of the event, since most already know what happened. Instead, I’ll give you some thoughts on what took place over the course of the evening in Broomfield:

-Forrest Griffin received, by far, the biggest crowd reaction of the night. Guy is a legit superstar. Rampage got a lot of love, too, but there was a smattering of boos when he was shown on screen.

-Frank Mir, Diego Sanchez, Rashad Evans, Stephan Bonnar, Nate Marquardt and Eddie Bravo all in attendance. All of them were great with the fans, taking pictures and signing autographs.

-Matt Hughes cornerned Tommy Speer and Josh Neer, while Randy Couture was in the corners of Karo Parisyan and Gray Maynard.

-Fans in attendance really seemed to know their MMA. There was no booing or calls for a stand-up during any of the ground fighting; even when there was little to no action going on.

-Only 2 fights went the distance and they were the only 2 to get out of the second round, so fans definitely were treated to an exciting night of fights.

-I just watched the Alexander-Irvin fight again. Watching it on TV it’s hard to see if he’s really out or not, but I can say sitting just a few feet from the Octagon that it was pretty clear to all of us at press row that Alexander was out.

-After the Parisyan-Alves fight, Karo was screaming and pacing around the cage during the entire commercial break. Couture tried to calm him down, but Karo wouldn’t listen. That knee was definitely a solid blow, but the punches didn’t seem to really connect. I thought it was stopped a bit early, but who knows if Karo would’ve recovered. He didn’t look to be in great shape, either.

-Fans really loved Clay Guida, Joe Lauzon and Nate Diaz. The place exploded when Diaz gave the double-bird and started flexing after sinking in the triangle choke. It was an awesome moment.

-Given the hot crowd and quick sellout of the near 7,000-seat arena, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the UFC return to Denver in 2009, this time running at the Pepsi Center for a PPV.

Only negative was that my photos didn’t turn out that well.

If anyone has the fights on tape or is watching the replay, you can see me at the front of press row. I’m wearing a striped-gray polo shirt and have long dark hair.

I’m baaaack!!!

Went to my first BJJ class in 2 months today. Honestly, I did a lot better than I was expecting. We drilled for an hour, working mount escapes and then a keylock. We then rolled for 30 min.

Drill was one guy starts off from bottom and is mounted by his opponent. Guy on bottom has to either reclaim guard or get to his feet. Top guy has to try and keep his position or get a submission. From bottom I was able to get my guard several times and also stood up a few times. I did get swept several times by a big dude, but was never submitted. On top I landed three submissions, 2 head-and-arm chokes and one keylock.

So, I’m very, very pleased with how I performed after being gone. I guess all that video studying on the 'net paid off (Submissions 101). My stamina was also good. Not sure why, but I felt more relaxed today than I can ever recall. My breathing was good and I wasn’t forcing anything, instead I was sitting back and looking for my opportunities, instead of just trying to out-muscle my opponent.

I’ll sleep well tonight, that’s for sure.

^for wlfpack

  • My boy anthony johnson (Former chute boxe L.A. protege) gave speer the scariest knock out ive seen in a looong time. Wlfpack, what did it seem like to you guys close to the cage?

  • i can’t stand karo anymore.

  • i love the respect the light weights are getting.

  • forrest is a GREAT ‘face’ of the ufc, he’s not exactly a pretty boy or anything but he’s intelligent and the dry sense of humor will go far. He’s the kind of guy they could send on a circuit of radio interviews and the such and he’d kill them all. Why do you think people were boo’ing rampage though?

  • im going to make someone watch the replay with my just so i can go “I KNOW HIM!” haha. My gf watched the entire fight night with me (and fell asleep but she gave it a shot) so i guess that leaves my mom lol.

^^That is fucking AWESOME to hear.

^^do you think this may be due to the altitude? if so i say fuck keep taking events to CO

… i feel left out now though i know AJ who’s in the UFC, I’m friends by association with J-lau (Creepy) who’s a big swingin dick now, and i trained for a bit with Reggie Orr (got eliminated from TUF).

oh well tick tock, just have to wait for my time to shine.

Xen,
We were all worried for Speer after seeing him slumped up against the cage like that. Weird thing was, no one really rushed to him after the KO, they just let him lay there until Hughes and co. got in the cage.

Johnson’s striking was awesome to see up close. The guy has tremendous punching power. Once he puts it on you, you’re over.

I’d love to see a Johnson-Thiago Alves matchup. That would be a standup war.

Karo isn’t very well-liked these days. His performance on TUF when he disrespected Nate Diaz didn’t help and his outburst last night left a real bad taste in my mouth.

I don’t know if the altitude had that much to do with the finishes. I think guys were just connecting and were being aggressive in looking to finish.

Johnson did a bit of training at my gym prior to the Speer fight. He trained at several other spots in CO as well.

Anthony Johnson is a fuckin beast. 78 inch reach!!

good takedown defense too

i wanna see AJ vs GSP

^yea you dont get an idea for how lanky Aj is till you see him in person. Funny thing is how everyone talks about his striking but he was an NCAA wrestler, and i’ve seen him sub legit purples. Dude is the total package… he’s going to be a serious threat. I wouldnt’ throw him to GSP just yet, but i agree AJ vs thiago would be incredible to watch. I remember watching him spar with jorge olivera (another tall guy but a 205lber) i seriously felt like i should have paid for that shit they put on a clinic.

and give karo “dont you know who i am bro?” paryisan a break  i dont know what his issue is but its probably weird being a dude who’s fought grown men since he was like 14 and now is getting showed up by relative “new” guys… it would seem for someone with his pedigree that he’s not realizing his potential.

The effects of mental training are SEVERELY underrated and understated, i made a thread on this b4 i believe you can search for it. (its on the strength forum)… personally the more vivid i drill something mentally the faster i adapt physically.

as far as speer, i think its because he looked like he was relatively standing up, and he had his eyes open as well so they assumed he was ok… but damn that was scary.

oh and 209!!! (for nate d.)

AJ knockout
