MLB Thread: 2013

Holy fuck.

Texeira is out with a wrist injury they’re saying is similar to Bautista’s wrist injury last year.

Bautista’s injury made him miss half the season and required surgery.

If the Yanks don’t fall this year they never will

^ and the hits keep comin! Ill stand by my bet…but this is not looking good at all. Texes injury could be 10 days or three months. But lest we forget he doesent start hitting until July anyway

Let’s make things really interesting and get a little side bet going. I’ll bet another month of avatars (November until to December) that the Yankees finish in dead last this year. How about it?

This would change nothing about our initial bet though. That one looks like it’s all but in the bag for me already. It’s just a matter of whether or not they’ll be eliminated in the last week of August or the first week of September now.

DB,

Why not just cancel or restructure the bet? How much gratification can you possibly get out of a bet that you’ll all but certainly win and doesn’t involve cash?

The Giants and Yankees play each other in September for a 3 game set, you could bet on that instead.

The way things are going, Matty’s chances of winning the bet are in line with the Astros winning the World Series.

Also the Giants and Jays play 4 games 2 on the road and 2 at for home for each team. The first 2 games are in May in Toronto the second 2 are in June in SF.

If the Jays win 3 or more you sport an avatar of my choosing for a month and If the Giants win 3 or more I’ll sport the avatar of your choosing.

If it’s a split, the bet is off.

I get gratification from winning, regardless of the odds. That’s why I won’t cancel or restructure the bet. Matty agreed to a bet that I felt pretty confident about before the possibility that the entire middle of the Yankees lineup might miss a big chunk of the season arose. Why would I endanger that bet?

In fact, why not ALSO bet that the Giants take two of three from the Yankees in September? How about it Matty? That’s two potential bets on the table on top of the one we’ve already agreed to. An avatar for a month if the Yankees finish last in the East and another month on top of that if the Yankees lose the 3-game series against the Giants in September.

I am a man of my word, I will stand by my bet.

For me the gratification comes from being right on something contentious when nothing tangible is at stake.

It’s a pretty lame bet and it doesn’t help to build interest in this thread.

I don’t place bets to build interest in this thread for your sake, Raj. I do it for my own personal gratification. That’s why I’ve beaten you both times we’ve wagered with each other. The gratification comes from winning, period. If you wanted to bet that the sun will rise in the west and set in the east tomorrow I would take that bet with you because I would win. I don’t care about betting on something contentious. I don’t bet for the action; I bet for the winnings. Despite what you think about me, I am not a degenerate gambler. Degenerate gamblers bet for the action. Successful gamblers bet on sure things, or as close to them as they can come.

As far as your bet goes, why would I want to bet with you? You’ve already made it clear in the past that you refuse to sport any avatar with a homosexual slant to it, which is chicken shit. Why would I wager anything with someone who isn’t going to have to pay much of a price if they lose. You’re sitting here talking about making things interesting and all that, and yet, you aren’t willing to actually take much of a risk at all.

And since I know that having to use a gay or HItler-themed avatar is a major soft spot for you, THAT is exactly what I would want you to use should you lose. So unless those sorts of avatars are on the table this time we will not be wagering with each other.

[quote]MattyXL wrote:

That’s the difference between Yankees fans and Blue Jays fans. Yankees fans stand by their word while Blue Jays fans try to jump in and get other people to alter the terms of wagers they aren’t even involved in simply to make things more interesting for themselves. And when you want to bet with a Blue Jays fan, since they’re so used to losing that they have to seek ways to handicap the bet for themselves, you can’t even wager anything serious, like a flamingly gay avatar or an avatar that extols all the finer virtues of Mussolini or Mao Tse Tung.

Yeah I have a soft spot for homoeroticism and Hitler.

But you are unwilling to make a bet on my terms because you’re an uncreative hack. Taking the bet I’ve offered would mean you’d have to actually put some thought and creativity into humiliating me. It’s no wonder you always choose homoerotic avatars for your betting partners, you don’t have a creative bone in your body.

I think the Yankees are beyond toast this year. The owners are now saying they care about money, which is the great equalizer because its the advantage the Yanks had over every other team. Without the mindset that they’ll throw good money after bad, with all the shit they’re going through, I’d be surprised if they weren’t dead last in the division.

The Yankees will be under .500 this year.

Also the number of SF Giants fans should double in about 10 years.

Sorry, I just don’t feel like putting any energy or creative thought into your avatar when you lose. But I’ll take the bet anyways. You’re on.

Now who’s the one without any creativity?

This coming from a guy whose favorite team’s best pitcher is a fucking overemotional knuckleballer who was too much of a pussy when he was a kid to do anything about his dad fucking him in the ass each night. Rather than take matters into his own hands and blow the guy’s brains out when he was sleeping, Dickie just rolled over and gave up his soft little asshole every night, which is pretty much what the Blue Jays are going to be doing all summer.

The Giants’ fanbase is already going to double anyways. That’s what happens when you win multiple World Series in a short time span with a roster made up largely of homegrown talent instead of a bunch of failed mercenary hacks like what the Blue Jays have now.

Actually the dead bird one was pretty good. The avatar that came to mind was that newspaper cover where the 2 Jays are high fiving and there’s a headline about a woman being raped. I’ve seen that so many fucking times.
