Still only a rumour at this point

Hey Matty! It’s a good thing we already agreed to our bet, because I definitely wouldn’t want to be a Yankees fan making bets about how their season goes after this! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I thought Granderson all of a sudden became a home run hitter because of a slight tweak in his swing? Like Sammy Sosa? lol.
None of those names suprise me if it were to be true (obviously a-rod and braun have used) except Cano.

Well rajraj, clearly your super sad faces and super sarcastic post shows how confident you are!
I would rather have an ancient Ichiro then a post performance enhancing dose of TRT Melky, but hey enjoy your 260 with 11 homers!
No contract year, HEY NO PROBLEM! enjoy his pedestrian year like he had last year with the fish. In fact I believe other than possibly batting average Brett Gardner will have a very similar year.
Josh Johnson - Great pitcher…when healthy, I wonder how many stints on the DL he will have this year.
RA Dickey - you really see him having a repeat performance of last year in the AL?
I honestly dont see how your Lineup and pitching are clearly better than my ancient yankees.
I love how most people are picking the yankees to finish 4th…[/quote]
I agree that the Blue Jays have way too many question marks to say they are the clear cut favorite in the East. Very open division. I gotta go with the O’s!
The question mark for the Jays are about health primarily except for the unproven bullpen. If you assume everyone stays healthy, they should be a clear cut playoff team.

I’m a little surprised at Grandy.
We know a-rod and Braun are cheaters though.
FYI - you can watch team USA play the white sox on whitesox.com.
Is there anything stopping a ball club owner from putting clauses into all player contracts that would deter players from using PEDs (or at least getting caught)? I think crippling paycuts and contract restructurings are called for when a player gets caught (if I’m a club owner). Over time it would seriously cut down the number of players who used PEDs, got huge contracts, and then got caught and performed like crap.
No more of this Jason Giambi nonsense. And the Yankees are more susceptible to it than any other club because their players are overpaid, and they have a lot of them.

Yes.
They’re called the MLBPA. There’s plenty in the CBA about limiting punishment. Also seeing how revenues AND salaries are both increasing there’s little incentive and plenty of disincentive in doing so.

If I’m MLB I’m going to drive a much harder bargain on this stuff going forward with the PA. I know it’s still fairly recent that they were able to get the 50 game suspension but I’d still be looking to up the ante, and if the PA wants to play hardball, I’d happily engage in a game of chicken with them.
Are you saying there is little incentive to avoid using PEDs or little incentive for a club owner to severely punish a guy that got caught using PEDs?

Why?
MLB revenues are hitting record highs. Steroid use has lead to huge jumps in performance which I would argue is a major contributing factor to the record setting revenues. The current system where most players are using while only a handful get caught produces mostly winners and a small amount of losers.

For one, assuming everyone stays injury free is a big assumption, considering the injury prone players they aquired. Also, they aquired those players from a team that was a disaster with those players. Calling them a clear cut favorite in that division, even if they stay healthy, I think is a stretch. They certainly are going to be in the mix though.

I would bet that the fans would overwhelmingly support much stricter punushment for PEDs. I would argue that PEDs are not the major reason for increased revenue. Performance is down since 1998-2003. When is the last .370 60 Hr season you’ve seen? Yet revenue is up. Cabrera led the league in hr last year with 44. That would have been good for about seventh or eighth ten years ago. I would argue that the main reason for increased revenue is more teams being in the playoff hunt than in years past. But who knows.

If I had time to do any research or dig up statistics I would say that fantasy baseball has played a role as well.

I’m not necessarily talking about individual records my point is based on the macro level.
Take a look at how much the average amount of home runs have increased since 1996. The average fan wants to see mashers clobbering the ball and cares little about the subtle nuances of the game the hardcore fan enjoys.

The “small amount of losers” will continue to grow into more and more losers, including more losing baseball clubs that got roped into $250 million contracts with players who will never perform at such high levels again. And longer term, don’t forget how quickly the media can turn on baseball at the drop of a dime if they perceive it as not being good for children due to setting a bad example.
You have fucking got to be kidding me…
well as they say where there is smoke
I betcha if this rings true Cano is gonna be very pissed for not signing that rumored 138 million for 7 year contract.
How can you say “most players are using”?
Not to say that no one is juicing now, but compared to the late nineties and early 2000’s, very few guys are using PED’s. Just look at the power numbers. The guys who are using now are using shorter ester testosterone in case they do get tested too, so I think it’s fair to say the performance ehnancement has come down a few pegs from its peak, yet revenues have continued to climb.
