A while back we had a discussion on steroids ability to improve eyesight and thus improve hitting/plate discipline.
Well in the year 2000, league average OBP was .350
Now it’s .320

Don’t know you one of the first rules of statistics? Correlation does not imply causation.

No it does not. But that is my personal theory to explain this phenomena.

I’d like to see what intentional walks (and unintentional intentional walks) have done over that same time period. Fewer scary power hitters, fewer walks, lower OBP.
Looks like Greinke seems to be involved in all the brawls, haha.

I don’t blame the Dodgers for going apeshit. Ian Kennedy hit Yasiel Puig in the fucking nose with a fastball earlier in the game, so the Dodgers retaliate by drilling someone the next inning so what does Kennedy do? He drills Greinke in the fucking shoulder and came within millimeters of hitting him in the face, too. Kennedy should be gone for at least 10 games for that horseshit. I guarantee you Kennedy went up and in on Puig as a little “welcome to the big leagues, pal”, which is fine if you throw it in tight at the belt. But he hit Puig right in the fucking face and the Dodgers were right to retaliate the next inning by drilling someone.
I didn’t see where Greinke hit Montero, but I assume it wasn’t up around the head, given that Vin Scully said that Montero didn’t seem pissed at all about getting hit. So Kennedy goes back out and throws one at Greinke’s head. It was a bush league move on Kennedy’s part and I hope that someone drills HIM in the fucking face next time he’s allowed back on the field, which will be too soon no matter how long he’s suspended for. And this is coming from someone who fucking hates the Dodgers.
Melky Cabrera and jose bautista are just awesome.
In 2 weeks when Reyes returns, we’ll get to see the offense this team SHOULD’VE had all year.

Yeah, and about a week after that Melky will be done for 100 games, Bautista will sprain his wrist and Reyes will pull a hamstring after going 2 for 17 since his return from the DL.
Should add: 2 outs, down a run in the 9th Bautista homers.

I guess SF is really missing Melky’s bat, huh?

Not really. They have one of the better offenses in the NL. Their pitching has been horrendous.

He pretty much hit Montero in between the numbers on his back.

Melky’s bat was badly missed in the playoffs last year too…oh wait.

So another potent bat wouldn’t help to mask this deficiency?

Still a better place to hit someone than in his face or off his earhole.

There’s also something called a regular season you need to get through first.

Yes?
Ever since that 10-21 start they’ve been on a 89 win pace with a demolished SP staff and no Reyes.
It’s been all offense and bullpen.

You’re basically saying, “if you just ignore the first 31 of the 64 games we’ve played, we’re doing great”. You been readin the hometown paper too much man.
