MLB Season 2011

The guy was a great story the first month of the year. He lost 40 lbs, came back an entirely different player with better range, better hands, quicker feet, a more discerning eye at the plate (I think his ob% is around .390) he was hitting for average and power and his refined approach at the plate clearly indicates that this isn’t a fluke and that he’s legit, he’s an extremely popular player in the Bay Area and is probably one of the more popular Giants outside of the Bay Area, he has a great personality that makes him an ambassador of the game…and this is your reaction to him breaking his hand? And you’re not even a fan of any of the Giants’ NL West rivals?

You’re a jackass. I shouldn’t expect anything less from a Blue Jays fan though.

I may be a hardcore Giants fan, but I’m an even bigger fan of the game itself, and as a true fan I don’t like to see the game’s great players and personalities get injured, no matter what team they play for. As much as I hate to say it, I would be disappointed if Matt Kemp were to miss significant time. I’d say the same thing about other Giants’ rivals too, such as Tulowitzki, Upton, Jimenez or Kershaw. You may be a Blue Jays fan, but you are clearly no fan of the game itself, and as such your opinion is now irrelevant to those here who are true fans of the game.

Pretty sure he was making a little joke. Its a broken wrist and he’s going to miss a month and a half. Yea it sucks. But Pablo will be fine. Injuries are a part of the game, I’m pretty sure the presumption is that no one ejoys to see injury unless otherwise stated, not the other way around.

Anyway I dont really care, just think you overreacted a tad.

I don’t think I overreacted at all. Rajraj said what he did for a reaction and he got one. That’s the only reason he said it; to try to get some sort of rise out of the Giants fans here. It’s his only remedy since he spent most of the postseason and most of the offseason laughing about how fat Sandoval became, and now that Sandoval has lost weight and silenced his critics, there’s nothing left for rajraj to do but take comfort in the fact that Sandoval won’t be on the field proving him wrong for the next 4 to 6 weeks.

So, no, I did not overreact. I’m not angry at all, so if that’s how I sound, fine. I just don’t like to see a guy who doesn’t understand the game at all, aside from whatever info he can glean from staring at stats on mlb.com until some magic formula for evaluating players and teams comes to him through osmosis, who never played at a high level whatsoever, come on here and start badmouthing the fucking Panda or anyone else in the bigs, for that matter. No, as pretentious as it sounds, I simply don’t like hearing a guy who didn’t play baseball and who lives in Canada tell me even one Goddamned thing about the game.

Fuck off. You made that comment out of bitterness and spite and in search of some sort of reaction and now that you’ve got your reaction don’t cop out and say it was just a lighthearted joke.

If you have such a problem with what I write feel free to put me on ignore.

LOL, apparently I spent most of the post season making cracks about Panda’s weight - in reality only a couple of posts.

Ignore you, Rajraj? Consider it done. You’re a chickenshit irrelevancy anyways, so I guess this cements it for me. Selah.

Sorry about that fellas. I don’t know what came over me there. Back to the grand ol’ game.

The draft is coming up here in a little over a month and I read an interesting article by Peter Gammons this morning about ways to improve the draft. I don’t want to rehash the whole article here, but I think there are two things that should definitely be included in the next collective bargaining agreement.

One: allow teams to trade their picks. It never even dawned on me that they aren’t allowed to trade picks and that teams only end up with extra picks as compensation for losing free agents.

Two: any international player who wants to come over from Japan or Korea or some 16 y/o phenom from the Dominican or some defector from Cuba has to enter the draft, rather than sell their services to the highest bidder.

Also, a third option that I kinda like: some sort of salary cap for draftees, along with a limit on their first signing bonus. I think it’s a little ridiculous the way it works now because a team who gets the top pick can pay him whatever the hell they want to pay him and all the other teams after that pick are held hostage by that dollar amount. I think that’s a problem in football too, for obvious reasons. I don’t think a slotting system is the right way to go either, simply because it can potentially delay the signing of players further down in the first round who would be ready to sign and report to instructional leagues or low-A ball immediately.

And if he talked shit about fatty-sandoval, I had no idea, I definitely havent read all the posts here.

Fair enough.

No no no

The signing bouns the Yankees offered me as a 1st round pick wasnt nearly HIGH enough. Fuck that noise. I just said F it and went to law school instead to enter 3 years of extreme stress only to be followed by a career of equal/more stress. Who do they think they are offering 8 million. I am BONEZ217 ffs

OMG Dustin Moseley finally got his first win despite having the second best ERA in the NL!

I like both of these suggestions a lot. I would also be quite happy if Gammons took over for Selig.

I’d be quite happy if Muammar Gaddafi took over for Selig.

Is anyone else watching the Phillies/Mets on ESPN right now and totally put off by the “Live K-Zone”? I sure am.

Its completely unnecessary. But I cant tell you how many times Ive been in a bar and people freak out when a ball is called because they dont realize that the angle of the camera is offset so much that it’s impossible to tell how far off the plate the pitch actually is.

I dont really understand the point of the live kzone except to give people another reason to say umpires are horrible. It also doesnt seem to move up and down according to height of the player but I dfeinitly could be wrong about that.

Who here was watching the Mets/Phils game when the Osama story started getting around? Fans in the stands completely stopped watching the game, everyone with a phone was on it, and then they started chanting USA USA with the players looking incredibly clueless. Was crazy to see.

Yeah that live k zone was crap. And I’m pissed I stayed up to watch that whole game for a Phillies loss.

Liriano with the no hitter tonight, only 5 more to go to match last season!

So I heard on the pregame show some talk of the Giants possibly exploring a trade for Jose Reyes. Not sure if it’s legit or if I just caught the tail end of Steinmetz’s response to some of Greg Papa’s incoherent ramblings. But if it’s true…
