Burnett struggled in the beginning but picked it up some. That is the last thing you want to see your starter do which is give up big runs in the first inning.
Looks like the Yankees bullpen couldn’t help out Burnett there. Angels with the lead again.

And as far as that graph goes. Baker and Wolf? Come on. Just because Burnett doesn’t use his fastball as his outpitch like many other power pitchers do doesn’t mean that most of the other guys on that list wouldnt trade their fastball for Burnett’s.
It’s not really a big deal. This is far too subjective for two people to agree. That graph does not present any sort of objectivity when you have like guys like Randy Wolf, Scott Baker and Ted Lilly making the ‘top 15 fastballs’ in baseball list.
I’m with you, for the most part. One of the best things about sports is that there’s so many different ways to see things. Just to clarify though, the list is not subjective at all, it is done by recording every pitch and the results of that pitch. So Randy Wolf’s fastball has recorded better results (more strikes and outs and less balls, walks, hits, etc.) than, for example, Burnett’s this year. The problem with a list like that is that there is often a lot of variance from year to year. It is not likely that, next year, Piniero will get every batter to ground to second on his sinker like he seems to be able to do next year. But you look for trends for year to year and you can actually see some really interesting stuff.

Lee and Sabathia are much better than Burnett. No question about that. But this postseason (and for most of the second half of the regular season) Hamels has not come anywhere close to his “MVP” form. Sure, he has the potential to have a nice game against the Yankees (if they win) but if he is tired than this week coming up is not enough rest.
I’m actually very dubious of Hamels. In the offseason, I think he let the newfound celebrity go to his head; he was on all these talk shows and doing that whole thing. He started slow and even admitted he didn’t work as hard in the offseason. We could now be seeing the results of a little less attention paid to offseason conditioning and getting his arm in proper shape, especially considering he has always had some health issues.
I cringe just seeing Lidge warm up in the pen. I think the Phillies and Yankees are very well-matched in position players and starting pitching and even setup guys… but Rivera is so much better than Lidge right now it is not even funny.
The choke is on!!! choke yanks!!
On the ump note:
Veteran umps to work World Series
NEW YORK – Stung by a rash of blown calls in the playoffs, Major League Baseball is breaking tradition and sticking with only experienced umpires for the World Series.
Longtime crew chiefs Joe West, Dana DeMuth and Gerry Davis, along with Brian Gorman, Jeff Nelson and Mike Everitt will handle the games, three people with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press this week.
Full Story:

Let the games begin
Go Phils, help shut up all those arrogant prick Yankee fans.
Philly in phive.
Phils are getting no respect in the NY papers.
Honestly, even if people think the Yankees are going to win, whoever thinks the Phils don’t have a shot in hell is delusional.
Has everyone already forgotten how the Phils rocked Sabathia last year in the postseason? Here’s a little refresher.
Sab has a monkey on his back, let’s see if he can get it off.

The ny papers are trash. They run stories about the ‘yankees wives club’ more often then they run anything of substance about the team. Jonny Damon’s wife is slammin btw. Anyone who knows baseball can see that this is one of the most even matchups in years.
But don’t forget that by the time Sabathia face the phillies he had already made about 5 starts in the amount of time most people make 3. Sure, he’s a huge guy but that kind of workload can take a toll on anyone. The worst thing that could have possibly happened to the phillies was the yankees winning the ALCS in 6.
How loud do you think the ‘who’s your daddy’ chant is going to be in game 2??

Yes it is and yes she is.
Agreed, but the Yankees are not against pitching him 3 times in this series. Can he handle that, if need be?

Almost as loud as the “you took steroids” chant for A-Rod in game 3 in Philly. ![]()

The sabathia matchup is going to be interesting.
Howard, Utley, Ibanez.
C.C. only allowed 39 hits and 61 total bases to left handed hitters the entire year. Good for a .96 WHIP and .198 avg against.
Rollins hits only .230 vs. lefties.
Ok lets talk stats. These are the Yankees’ stats vs. Lee
Teixeira - 9 for 23, 4 doubles and a homer .391
Swisher - 6 for 18
Arod - 5 for 15, 2 homers
Posada - 6 for 21, 2 homers
Matsui - 7 for 15
Jeter - 11 for 27
Damon - 2 for 22
Cano - 4 for 18
The Phillies don’t have many at bats against CC but these are the numbers
Ibanez - 11 for 40, 2 homers
Rollins - 4 for 11
Howard - 3 for 7
Victorino - 3 for 7
Utley - 0 for 5
Werth - 0 for 6
Feliz - 0 for 6
Ruiz - 2 for 3
Lanky: CC has 3 extra days rest before the series starts. And today Girardi said that he may use a 4th starter. He hasn’t decided yet. There is also one less off day this series. I doubt Lee is going to pitch on three days rest twice in 9 days.
And obviously the most telling stat
New York - Jay Z, Nas, Biggie
Philly - Beanie Segal, Will Smith

While lyrically not the greatest, Will Smith has more money than all 3 on the NY list, maybe combined.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
Btw, Bonez, no hard feelings after the series is over, but until then you are my bitter enemy. I’m going to follow you around T-Nation and disagree with everything you write. You think Prof X gets followed around a lot? You ain’t seen nothing, yet. I’m going to be popping out of toilets while you’re taking a shit.

If you are going to count Will Smith’s movie money you have to count the money made from slinging crack and pot to the school kids… lol shit still doesn’t compare . Rocawear ? no? shit.

A couple of years ago Sabathia was set to face the Red Sox in the play-offs. I think he was playing for the Indians at the time. I said the Sox were going to win the game because Josh Becket was an unstoppable force. Someone , I think it was Dollar Bill, said Sabathia was just as likely to dominate as becket. I said no he isn’t and was proven to be right.
This year it’s Sabathia who is the buzz saw and that’s not going to change. When a pitcher gets on this kind of roll he will stay on the roll. Sabathia will be dominate regardless of rest or workload. The only way that might not be is if he gets the World Series jitters. Yeah, like that’s really going to happen. The man is ice right now.
Alright everybody, get your official predictions out for Game 1.
I say Phillies 3, Yankees 2 in a pitchers duel.
Yakees 6(Phillies bullpen blowup)
Phillies 3

I hate it when the experts start throwing out these stats. The postseason is entirely different so those numbers should be thrown out the door.
What about in the Dodgers vs. Phils series when the Dodgers pitcher Sherill had only given up two homeruns to lefties in the past two years and then he goes and gives up a game changing shot to Ibanez.
