Say they have Strasburg pitch game one and five, maybe strasburg doesn’t give up three runs in the middle innings like gio did. If he shuts the Cards down through six in that last game they would have had a 7-0 lead and would have won 7-6 after all the runs given up by the bullpen. On the other hand, he could have pitched like he did vs the Marlins in his last start. It’s impossible to know how much a difference he would have made.

You’re speaking with the benefit of hindsight. Even if they decided to not shutdown Strasburg they would’ve started Gio in game 1.

While Strasburg had a better season, Gio also had a Cy Young calibre season. There was no indication beforehand the manager had any intention of flip flopping their spots in the rotation. [/quote]
Of course there was no indication since there was never any indication whatsoever that Johnson would even have to make that decision. With a couple days off before the playoffs started, I would have expected them to use the chance to get Strasburg lined up for Game 1 and 5.

Ok if you’re of the opinion Davey Johnson would have started Strasburg in game 1 then he could’ve changed the outcome.

I personally think Gio would’ve still pitched game 1 and thus game 5.

Although I want the Yankees to lose, it’s really not fun watching their whole team not even playing half decently. Cano is riding a 25 at bat hitless streak, the longest in baseball.

October baseball is supposed to remind me what an elite team looks like. That just isn’t happening. Cano is 2/31 overall

At least we can agree on that

Oh wow did you guys see that ridiculous blown call? WOW

Saw it! And now they are down 3 runs. Hahahaaha, in the end the Yankees aren’t hitting and that is the stem of their problems.

would you guys vote for Yadier Molina as NL MVP?

Cards in 5

hey guys, I’ll actually watch this game today. OK

You know, I really hate how they always show shots of the city that a game is being played in as they come in and out of a commercial break, but they block the views out with a bunch of fucking ads right in the middle of the screen.

Tonight, they’ve really fucked up some incredible shots of San Francisco at dusk with those goddamned ads. I could understand if they were in Atlanta or Milwaukee. But The City is just so beautiful this time of year it’s a shame they cover up the views of it. I don’t even know why I just posted this. It’s just a personal gripe I guess. I have a lot of those.

Are you a fan of any team in particular?

And by the way, Matt Holliday should get fucking drilled at some point in this game, especially if the Giants can add to their lead first. That slide into second that took out Scutaro was WAY too late. The rule states that the player must be able to reach out and touch the base with either an arm or a leg, although I don’t think they necessarily have to stick a limb out. I think that as long as they are within an arm or leg from the bag it’s okay to slide off to one side going after an infielder.

But it’s an entirely different story when a runner doesn’t even begin his slide until he’s already on top of the bag, which is what Holliday did. Going in hard and wide is okay, but going in hard and late is not.

Is there a better atmosphere in baseball than the one in AT&T Park on a nightly basis? I haven’t been to enough stadiums to really know, but I doubt it. I’ve been to Fenway and that’s just a bunch of cheap shit if you ask me. “Sweet Caroline”? Give me a fucking break. And the whole role call thing at Yankee Stadium? Are there two more hokey, contrived traditions in baseball? I think not.

Wrigley Field? I guess the atmosphere is great if you’re a fan of the visitors since they’re most likely going to be kicking the Cubs’ ass that day. Besides, like the great Lee Elia said, 85% of the world is employed and the other 15% are the cocksuckers that go out to Wrigley for some day baseball.

St. Louis? Well, to be honest they’d probably give SF a run for its money, at the least. Dodger Stadium? Fuck that place. One of the worst atmospheres for baseball, actually. Half the crowd doesn’t even give a fuck what’s going on down on the field and the other half DO give a fuck but don’t understand what’s going on.

No, I’d have to say San Francisco is the best baseball atmosphere in the league, other than maybe St. Louis.

Wouldn’t it be really ironic if the Giants end up going to the World Series and getting home field advantage thanks to Melky Cabrera?

I mean, when you can see THIS outside the ballpark on a daily/nightly basis, you know it’s a good place to watch some baseball.

Jesus Christ, I didn’t realize they put Aubrey Huff in the game. What the fuck that maladjusted dipshit is doing on the roster is beyond me. Truth be told, he’s been halfway decent when he’s been put in there over the last month, but I fucking hate how that guy ended up stunting Belt’s growth during an essentially lost season last year just because he’s a goddamn veteran and probably threw a hissy fit the second that Belt even made the team out of Spring Training.

I haven’t followed baseball closely for a thousand years, but the Tigers are up two games on the Yankees.
