MLB 2012

Giants will play the Yanks next year. Could also mean Jays since its AL East

Cabrera actually has an outside shot at winning the triple crown. 2nd in AVG, T-3 in HR’s, 1st in RBI. If this guy doesn’t win atleast one MVP in his career something is terribly wrong. I think this is the year, sorry Trout.

Melky suspended 50 games for testing positive for PEDs.

Congrats to LAD on winning the NL West

Melky just issued a statement through the union: “My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used. I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.”

At least he’s not lying about it.

I respect that. He just lost a lot of money he would likely have gotten through free agency (prob why he used). Will be interesting to see if/what teams will take a chance on him now. As someone that’s not a Giants fan, it’s nice to see the the testing program is working.

And this is why I hate the media:
“-- San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera has been suspended for 50 games without pay after testing positive for testosterone.”

Really, testosterone? That’s like testing positive for blood. Do these idiots ever think for one second they a reader may actually have over a 50 IQ and knows that testosterone is a naturally occurring hormone in both men and women? I don’t remember baseball players having to surrender their testicles at the contract table.

They can say ‘significantly higher than normal testosterone levels’ or ‘analogs consistence with exogenous testosterone’ or something that doesn’t indicate he was suspended for having a normal fucking hormone in his body.

And the rays get no-hit again!

Gotta say seeing an elite guy like Felix throw a perfect game and just dominate (struck out five of the last six hitters) is so much cooler than seeing a guy like Humber have a fluke performance.

He admitted to taking an illegal substance

According to Victor Conte, MLB tests based on the ratio of test to epithets, with a ratio of 4 to 1 or higher being a failed test and 1 to 1 being the typical ratio in adult males. Essentially, the players can still get away with a somewhat elevated T-level. Again, accordig to Conte, the popular thing for players now is to use a topical cream several hours after the game when they won’t be immediately tested. He didn’t go into specifics, but he basically said that the cream does its thing and then the test levels drop back to 4 to 1 or slightly less by the time they show up to the park the next day where they might be tested. He implied that Melky is a fucking idiot for not only cheating, but getting caught as well, since it sounds like getting caught is simply a matter of not staying on top of when the cream is applied.

In unrelated news, I am going to fucking kill myself.

Congrats to Felix Hernandez on the perfect game!

Also, at least Melky admitted he made a mistake and is taking his punishment like a man unlike Braun.

Yeah, I agree. The only difference between the two is some vague technicality no one has ever come to terms with.

Dude, my life is fucking over with now. Not only am I a huge Giants fan, which means that the entire tone of the next two months of my life is directly dependent on the NL West standings, but Melky is also the lynchpin of a decidedly weak OF on my fantasy team.

I’m locked in a death clinch for first-place and I’ve done a lot of shit-talking throughout the season, except that I’ve come up against the transaction limit, which is only in place in our league due to nefarious plotting against me on the parts of the other league members which I won’t go into here. I have already made 79 transactions out of an allotted 80 and now this whole fucking debacle means I’m going to have to blow my last transaction on picking up some dipshit like Delmon Young or Denard Span to replace Melky and I’ll probably have to take Matt fucking Joyce off my bench and plug him into the lineup as well.

I have mixed feelings on this apology(and most apologies that share this general context, which seems pretty common in sports). I mean, obviously you want the player to make some kind of statement, and I’m glad he didn’t try to deflect the issue as some kind of mishap, a total accident that could happen to anyone who visits their local Rite-Aid! That said though, the canned ‘deeply sorry for my mistake and for letting down my teammates/organization/fans’ always comes off as such bullshit. Steroid use isn’t a spur of the moment ‘mistake’ like say, some kind of crime like a DUI, for which this type of apology is actually appropriate.

“Ultimately, it was a bad decision” might be the only line in his apology that comes off as sincere and believable, and not just a PR dump. That shit always annoys me, always.

At least him admitting he did it is like someone who commits a crime and says fuck it, I don’t need a lawyer, I did it, i’m guilty. That rarely ever happens these days. I don’t have respect for the guy for taking whatever he was taking.

Felix Hernandez is the next Randy Johnson.

Thank God you were talking about baseball. I don’t know you well enough to discern this as a form of extreme sarcasm.
Yeah, the Giants are fucked. Counting on Melky to be your anchor was a risky proposition in the first place. His year was a total anomaly, so he should not have been counted on as your ticket to the promised land. He would have folded in the play-offs anyway. Melky is that kind of guy.

That’s not the point. The point is ‘testosterone’ is a normal hormone present in a human male. They are throwing the term ‘testosterone’ like it’s a sin to have it. He’s not guilty of plain testosterone.

jesus… was watching the Sox/Blue Jays game and apparently a fan had a heart attack right there in the front row. They didn’t go to commercial and were resuscitating him right there in front of everyone, even while they were carting him out. Pretty messed up.

Fuck, that’s about as bad as watching John McSherry’s fucking heart explode inside of his chest cavity on Opening Day.
