One fortunate fan will get a chance to take swings off Tim Lincecum next spring.

The Giants ace is challenging fans to a video competition in which they are asked to duplicate his unorthodox delivery on video for an opportunity to hit – or strike out, for that matter – against the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner at spring training next year.

The entry period for fans to submit their best version of the right-hander’s pitching motion began Tuesday and goes through Sept. 16. They can go to Redirecting....

Lincecum says the “Red Bull Ultimate” competition will be judged in multiple rounds based on creativity, originality, performance and skill level, and demonstrated passion for the sport and Lincecum.

Entries are limited to one per person.

Lincecum, the shaggy haired four-time All-Star, is 10-9 with a 2.69 ERA and 165 strikeouts this season for the reigning World Series champions.
That actually sounds really fucking cool! I think I could duplicate his windup pretty well to be honest. My motion was sort of a cross between his and Kevin Brown’s, albeit more like Brown’s than Lincecum’s.

I think it’s a bi of a fallacy that his motion is that unorthodox anyways. I don’t want to rehash that deadend argument I was involved in the old MLB thread, but basically he does everything right, he just does it all in an exaggerated manner in order to maximize every pitch. If he just toned everything down a little and he was 6’4", 215 he’d look pretty normal.
Are you actually going to do it?

hahaha I was going more for the striking out. Mark Reynolds, maybe?

Uggla has extended his hit streak to 30 (I think?) games now. Talk about turning your season around.

From reading the article it sounds like it’s more than just about mimicking his delivery but also putting on a performance of some sort. It has to be creative, original as well as showing off skill.

No. I couldn’t care less about meeting Lincecum. Plus, I doubt they’d pay for my plane ticket and hotel in the event I did win.

Translation: I’ve never actually thrown a baseball and I don’t feel like spending money on a baseball mitt, since I’ve never owned one before, so I can make a fool of myself throwing a baseball in a manner that resembles a quadriplegic on heroin.

I just don’t care about meeting any professional athlete/celebrity. Especially not going to waste time trying to win a contest to meet one.

Where were you when I was still drinking? A little pinch of wasabi and a little pinch of horseradish, combined with a few dashes of Tabasco really hits the spot in one of those. Clamato rather than V8 was my preference. I think I was the only one of my friends who would ever drink Bloody Marys.
I was probably elsewhere getting drunk. I’m convinced drink more than 90% of the site (not e-bragging, but it is what it is). I’m also convinced drinking does not inhibit strength/size progress, so I don’t plan on stopping till it’s time to cut.

I’ll have to try wasabi that sounds awesome

Every day, I look at Adam Dunn’s stats and am completely astounded at his falloff. It has to be the biggest single season dropoff in MLB history.

I LOVED watching him play in Washington. Dude is a cool guy too. Sad.

I notice if you drink often enough, you really don’t feel that hungover. If you drink less regularly I bet it would effect training the next day.

Of course. Any true baseball fan would be excited to meet a baseball player. Lincecum is a division rival, but I still would like to meet him.

Heard a story on ESPN this morning about Blue Jay players stealing signs from teams in their home stadium last year. They had a guy in the stands signaling to them what the pitch was going to be. Hmmm…

If I were in the same location as him like say a bar I would say hi and maybe snap a picture. But I don’t worship these guys, I just enjoy watching them play.

Hearsay. If the players are stealing signs (player on 2nd base relaying pitches to the batter) I would consider that perfectly fine. It’s up to the team on defense to protect their signs.

Well, I rarely drink enough on work nights to make me hungover…but even if I do, I train at like 3pm and it’s gone by then.

On weekends I don’t train as often, but actually the first 6 to 8 sets usually sweats the hangover out of me and I feel great. Maybe my periworkout drink is super hydrating or something.

"Signs of trouble around Amy Nelson?: An in-depth analysis… Look, I’m not saying that a hack like Amy Nelson had sex with her superiors at ESPN to get this job. I’m not. I would never make such a bold accusation. But it appears that a lot of unnamed sources around baseball believe this might be the case. Not only that, but if you look at the stats - based on previous hack journalists who cherry-pick stats to fit pre-determined conclusions - a statistically significant number of them slept their way to the top of the journalism world. Am I saying for sure that I know Amy Nelson did? All I’m saying is, there are signs of trouble around Amy Nelson based on prior statistical analysis of shitty journalism trends, and a lot of vague unnamed sources are telling me a lot of things that I can’t divulge, but absent of any proof let’s just float that suspicion out there: Amy Nelson may or may not be being accused of fucking half of the ESPN office in Bristol, CT. She couldn’t be reached for comment, but one unnamed source said it was ‘probable’. " - Matt English (@Mattomic)
