I think we jinxed Kimbrel. He blew a save and had a bad outing.
Oh wow.
It’s looking more and more possible for the Rays to surpass the Red Sox for the AL Wildcard spot.
They’re only 4.5 back and are currently up 8-1 against the Red Sox today… so probably 3.5 back as of today. I would absolutely LOVE to see the Rays make the playoffs this season, hopefully the Jays can help them out by beating the Red Sox in the upcoming series.
It’s certainly possible. I believe they have a series coming up in Boston as well, if I’m not mistaken.

I would love to see it happen.
Keith Law reviews Moneyball
Note: There are spoilers in it so you may not want to click on the link. I will tell you he absolutely hated it and said he would have walked out on it if he wasn’t planning on reviewing it.
Glad I didn’t poney up $20 to see it.
SPOILER*******
Here is a small excerpt from his review that made me laugh:
The film also relies on some pretty gross misrepresentations or oversimplifications of the business. The idea of a GM getting on a plane and flying two thirds of the way across the country to meet another GM to discuss a trade for a left-handed reliever is so absurd that it should set off alarm bells in even the casual fan. Do you really think that GMs only talk trades in person? That they fly to meet each other for tete-a-tetes before consummating any deal? Similarly, teams don?t sign injured players to guaranteed contracts by flying out to their houses (on Christmas Eve, apparently) without having them go through physicals.
I’m starting to drink the Verlander cool-aid. I can see him getting the MVP, but it probably won’t happen. I really haven’t been paying much attention to baseball since football started so i’m not sure how any of the other candidates are doing.

I think it probably WILL happen. He is the frontrunner.
What about Craig Kimbrel for Cy Young??

That’s really, really unlikely. Just because he is a closer. You have a stacked Phillies staff, Halladay, or somebody there will get it.
I could see ROY, though.
If their goal is to debase the Cy Young as much as possible they should give the AL MVP to Justin Verlander and the NL Cy Young to Kimbrel.
I haven’t seen Kimbrel pitch, but it doesn’t matter, giving the Cy Young to someone who won’t even come close to 100 IP is ridiculous.
Honestly I think Sabbathia has been almost as good as Verlander this year.
People forget that Sabbathia pitches in an extreme hitters park in a division with 5 good to great offenses. Before you say the Orioles are terrible, it’s not because of their hitting, it’s because their pitching has been absolutely atrocious this year.
Verlander on the other hand also pitches in hitter friendly park (not to the same degree as Yankee Stadium) and plays triple A calibre teams in Minnesota and to a lesser extent Chicago. I would argue the Sox have the worst 3 everyday players in the Major Leagues in Rios, Dunn and Pierre.
I haven’t bought into the Verlander hype to this point.
Holy crap, check the distance on this home run

One of the most impressively hit balls of the season.
Is Boston going to back it’s way into the playoffs?
Is Matt Kemp going to get the triple crown?
Even though the Phillies clinched awhile ago, should they be worried they keep losing games? Isn’t momentum a factor going into the playoffs?
Anybody else get goosebumps watching Braun hit that homerun yesterday?
Loving the boston freefall right now. Hope to see the brewers in the WS.
I dont think Kemp will get the homers he needs. Dodgers stadium will be to blame.

I don’t think he will either but it would be awesome if he does. Totally rooting for him just so I can see a triple crown winner.
BTW he has to be the most under-the-radar triple crown contender ever. It pretty much snuck up on everyone out of nowhere (i.e. media)
So how good does a pitcher have to be before they are considered a true ace?
Ricky Romero’s season totals minus his last start (hasn’t been updated yet)
2.98 ERA 217.1 IP 1.141 WHIP Averaging 7 IP/Start 2.22 SO/BB
How much must Ricky Romero improve to be considered a true ace?

Hahahah well played. No one expected Crawford to suck like this. Ellsbury’s emergence puts them in an awkward spot, they totally signed Carl to be his replacement.
