What made you ever believe this would not be the outcome? Take all the countries from Europe and merge their people into the USA, give it a few hundred years, why would that outcome be any different than the countries they originated from?
I think a major reason why people have a hard time understanding Obama’s socialist tendencies is because they have a very narrow, outdated view of what socialism is, that they learned in high school economis. If you take the time to follow what is going on in Europe, as I have, however it becomes much clearer.
What has happened to socialism is over time it has evolved so as not to be so in your face blatant that everyone can recognize it for what it is. A good number of people don’t get that. So this is why there is an argument over Obama being a socialist.
The basic principle of the old school socialism and it’s successor that has remained unchanged is that socialists believe in infiltrating the government into every aspect of our lives and making us as dependent upon the government as they can possibly make us. Socialists love control. So the idea of individuals doing things for themselves, fending for themselves and not needing the government is abhorrent to them.
This thinking was clearly on display when Obama made his infamous “if you own a business you didn’t build that” speech. Gun control is another example of this thinking. The idea that we the people can provide for our own security without first having to dial 911 and beg the government for help and then wait, is abhorrent to socialists. That is why the Aurora massacre is played up in the press, but the Ocala senior citizen self defense shooting has quickly dropped out of the news cycle.

What made you ever believe this would not be the outcome? >>>[/quote] This is one of the best questions I’ve seen asked here. The answer is that I don’t know that I ever really did once I understood what was going on. Biblicaly speaking it was inevitable once we took that turn in the 60’s though I don’t want to get into that in detail here now.

And not just at the textbook level either. The hippies got older and figured out that they’d get much further with a suit n a smile than they would with barefeet and a firebomb. My hat is waaay off in this regard. Very VERY well played. They went from Woodstock to the whitehouse in a generation. I feel sorry for Khrushchev. He stood on the floor on the U.N. general assembly and told us he would bury our grandchildren. He didn’t live to see us bury ourselves.
EDIT: Can’t hurt to post this again. 13 minutes. Won’t kill some folks to get a bit of accurate history. http://gregnmary.gotdns.com/index1.html

The left has moved further left since President Kennedy’s days.

I hope you have the ability to communicate like an adult , I agree Socialism has morphed but so has the right wing of American politics . IMO they have changed the meaning of words like SOCIALISM to suit their agenda

It requires a special strain of delusion to believe that the United States has moved to the right since JFK. Further response is neither necessary nor maybe even possible.
Yep, it does. I mean conservatives were soo supportive of civil rights during the civil rights movement. Conservatism has it’s place in politics as a general concept, but having people hold onto dated ideas about politics and morality is what bugs the shit out of me. If you have something that works and doesn’t need to be fixed and can be flawed if changed, this is where conservatism is extremely good and can keep things honest.
But this isn’t Abraham Lincolns party. Think about it critically.
History is a harsh judge. Think about what people will think about gay marriage in 30-40 years? The problem is a lot of you cannot seem to see forward and seem to harbor a lot of hatred, rather than understanding, compassion or even love for your fellow human beings, all while claiming Christianity and such to back up your beliefs. From my perspective it bugs me, but I have faith in the potential of people. I see it in my fellow vets, majority of us were very homophobic and even had anti-gay comics and stuff in our shops. These days we come to find out some of our peers that we love are gay. How am I going to put it all on the line for someone, and know they would do the same for me, and then turn around and tell them they can’t share the same rights as me?
Just think about it. I wouldn’t post if I didn’t care.

Like I’ve said on many occasions, before the Internet many of these types were sitting on park benches talking to the pigeons. But now they have an outlet…I suppose it’s good for them. However, not good for me I’m tired of debating the half retarded on PWI.

So, someone running for Prez in 1962 says, on camera, “We’re going to spread the wealth around” and he would get elected?
I was under the impression he’d be called a Commie and laughed out of the race…

Pitt is once again talking about things that he doesn’t understand.
John Kennedy (a democrat) is on record as stating that tax cuts stimulate the economy. And in 1962-63 he passed a comprehensive tax cut plan which was easily passed by both republicans and democrats.
