I heard a segment on Planet Money on the jobless recovery , It theorizes that the low interest rate has bolstered the Stock Market.
I theorize giving expendable income to the working poor , that earn it will create jobs and boost the economy more than giving another tax break to the so called job creators

There is a way to live like that without finding another job, it’s called going on welfare.
I know that might sound like a joke but it’s not. I have known people who struggle working a low wage job or even two and then see friends, family members, acquaintances and strangers who are in the same social circumstances as they who don’t work and yet get their nails and hair done every week and have kids with iPhones and designer sneakers.
There are solutions that can lessen the amount of poverty and all of the social ills that come with it and make it a more manageable issue but no one has the courage or will to actually try and fix things. Maybe they like it the way it is and want it to remain that way. I don’t know. What I do know is that we have a system that rewards those at the bottom, whom we could appropriately refer to as bottom feeders, the most while those who want to make it on their own get less. More effort (and money) is put into trying to save lost causes in the school system, for example, than in helping those who have a chance to better their condition. There are job training programs for people on welfare but what about those who work a low paying job and have demonstrated a willingness to work? They have to quit and go on welfare to take advantage of them? I’d rather see job training and career scholarships for people who are already working than see people who aren’t really going to work afterward going into these programs simply to keep getting welfare. In NJ they made the programs mandatory if you want to continue getting welfare but there was no requirement to then get a job. So you had people bouncing from program to program.
Maybe the reason things don’t change is that there is more money in hopelessness than in hope.

The scary thing is, is that you truly see this argument as this simple. I know you have to really boil things down to black or white to really be able to grasp them, DMaddox, but that’s more of a sign of your intellectual prowess than it is of the actual debate. Do you see no ray of light between keeping food on the table and the power on, and living high on the hog with tvs, steak, and massages?
Americans or just people? Americans do.

In Civilization ? YES

Please point out where there is a right to this. I have a right to free speech, I don’t pay for it. Why am I paying for food and electricity when that is my right?

I think you need to define what you mean by right. Can the govt pass a law which states you cannot eat or have electricity? You have the right to bear arms but you don’t get a gun for free and you have to pay for the permit.

The Bill of Rights, First Amendment.

and you really believe you have the right to say what ever you want ? I say no and you gave it up to live in a society .
It is the reason you can not say fire in the theater or bomb in an airport

Are you disagreeing that you have the right to free speech ?
Yes, and you agreed with me when you pointed out that one does not have the right to yell " fire" in a crowded movie theater. When I watch a movie in my house, even when I invite 50 friends over for it, I can stand up and yell, “Fire,” as much as I want. However, in a movie theater full of others who have also temporarily purchased a piece of the theater with the understanding that they won’t have to deal with some idiot yelling, “fire,” and causing a panic, I have no such right because that violates the right of everyone else to the property they purchased.

While I agree with your reasoning why you are not free to yell fire in a theater , the fact remains you are still not free to do so .
Society and Civilization have effects on all our liberties and in many for good reason

I believe there’s a misunderstanding here…I’m pretty sure I stated that we do NOT have a right to speech. Not at all. We only have rights to our lives, our liberties, and our properties. A movie theater limiting speech on its premises does not affect the liberty of anyone.

You can justify those away as well , Ask the people in prison if they have the right to liberty on get caught in a situation where the GOV can make the case you are selling drugs see if you have the right to your property

The fact that one has the ability to do something doesn’t give him the RIGHT. The people in prison do, in fact, have a right to liberty. Master just takes it from them. The businessmen who make their money selling assorted substances that have been banned my master do, in fact, have the right to their property. A bully just robs them of it.

I assumed since we were talking about Wal-Mart and minimum wage that we were talking about America. Therefore, what I mean by right is what is lad out in the Constitution. So no, the US govt cannot pass a law saying you can’t eat.
Yes you have to pay for a gun but that is one of the only rights in the bill f rights that involves a manufactured product. Not a fair comparison.
