Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the nigt and consume a protein/fat combo in the form of a shake.
Lets say I have this shake at 4 o’clock and then do mrning cardio at 8 o’clock. Would I get the benefit of burning fat on an empty stomach or would my body use that shake as my energy source?
I guess what Im trying to ask is how long should I wait between my last meal and mrorning cardio to reap the benefits of cardio on an empty stomach?
I’m not sure if yours is deliberate or not. I think mine is due to cutting too many cals during the day (waking up hungry). If I cut carbs toward the end of the day, it helps.
As for the fasted state cardio, isn’t the rule like 3 or 4 hours after a meal to be considered ‘fasted state’?
Quite honestly, I wouldn’t recommend doing any type of cardio in a fasted state. Doing cardio on an empty stomach may use up some fat, but it will also tear your muscles apart for the extra energy. Thats a fast way to lose your muscle mass and all that hard work hitting the weights. I’ve done that several times. When it comes down to it, to lose weight, you’ve got to create a calorie deficit. In other words, you need to expend more calories during the day than what you take in. I prefer drinking one scoop of whey protein before and after each cardio session, to prevent my muscles from breaking down. I know a lot of members on the forum don’t like AST Sports Science, but I’ve burned off a hell of a lot of fat using their Max-OT Cardio program and I actually gained lean muscle mass doing it.
I agree with astdjm because doing cardio in a fasted state is not going to get you anywhere, believe me I have tried this before. Also, you should try AST’s max-ot cardio program, it sure has helped me quite a bit!! Good luck!
Holy crap! I tried running today on an empty stomach and I almost died. I felt like an old man and it really sucked, plus I wasn’t even able to go half as long as I normally do. I’m sticking with evening runs
