MIDI Keyboard Question

I’m sure this is an easy question that I should have already been able to figure out, so yes, I’m dumb.

Because of living space issues, I had to sell my piano but bought a cheap MIDI keyboard (Samsung carbon 49) thinking that I could hook it up to my computer and just use it as a digital piano.

Unfortunately, I’m stuck on how to do that. Any help?

it depends on what software you’re using. Which leads me nicely to this important question:

what software are you using?

It came packaged with Natural Instruments Reaktor (No gusta), and I downloaded Anvil Studio (friend recommendation). If you have any other suggestions I’m all ears.

no experience with either of those I’m afraid, although I found this:

Select View > Composer from the menu. Hook up a MIDI keyboard, if you have one. Click View > Synthesizers, MIDI and Audio Ports to ensure that your instrument is set up properly. If you hear no sound, click the “Test MIDI Connections” button

give that a try.

Are you just wanting to play it like an acoustic piano?

For production, I’m a big fan of Reason. Really easy to use and loads of fun.

If you have some computer skills. Get your hands on ableton live

Then get a VSTI(piano synths what ever) of your choice to plug into ableton

Next configure your midi keyboard to work in ableton

Record yourself … record layers of yourself …publish your work… Anymore more questions I am sure can be answered best in Electronic Music Makers | Facebook

Also a quick ableton search on youtube gives lots of tutorials

I’ve been meaning to give Ableton a try but just can’t get away from Reason. I love it too much.

Its way better. It’s like photoshop is to grfx peepz.

yeah, that’s what everyone keeps telling me, but I’ve gotten to the stage where I’m pretty good with Reason. Can’t be arsed learning another program.

Plus it’s just all soft synths I use, no live audio, so there’s a lot of stuff Ableton has that I just don’t need
