Microwavin' My Sweet Taters

Hey any suggestions on how to cook sweet potatoes in the microwave? Mine always seem to come out hard in the middle.

Microwave it longer. I put mine in for 8-10 minutes. It’s extremely hot, but the middle is soft.

I often cube mine when raw, add seasoning, place in a tupperware container, and nuke for 3min.

Yeah, don’t microwave them. Cut them into wedges, toss in olive oil until they are coated, add salt and pepper, and roast at 425 for about 20 minutes or so.

You’ll never nuke them again, I promise you.

Trust me I’d love to roast them, but I’m a college student living in a dorm. I have two burners and a microwave. I’ll definitely try the cubing thing… and it sounds like I might just have to put them in for a longer time

Dude, it takes 6-11 minutes in a microwave depending on how big the sweet potato is. I usually wrap mine in plastic but I am sure a plastic bag would work as well. They are always cooked all of the way through unless you take it out too soon.

Fair enough. Actually, back when I was in your position, I would wrap it in a wet paper towel which helped. I may have cut in half first, or at least stabbed it a few times with a knife…

You can buy them at the store already wrapped in plastic, they are a little more expensive but when I wasnt concentrating on fat loss they were very convenient to bring to work and make in the microwave, and cooked in less than 8 minutes.

i cut mine into thirds, wrap a piece that I want to eat in a paper towel and nuke for 4 minutes. perfect every time.

Well shit this is all great! I just got a huge basket and now I can actually eat them! sweet! Yeah I think the last time I nuked one I only gave it about six minutes… woops. oh man it’s time for sum derishous tots

Two things you can do:
1)Smaller potatoes. Or cut them into halves before you start the microwave.

2)Turn the potatoe upside down partway through the microwaving process.

Myself, I can do smaller potateos - like 4x2x2 inches in 3-4 minutes like this. I also don’t use my microwave’s “potatoe” setting - takes forever. And I also have a microwave that nukes anything faster than people I know.

epitome.

zip lock makes microwave steamer bags they work great i put a small amout of water in it and they come out good
