Michigan Politics Thread

Irish; I remember a while back we had a discussion about federal, state, and local politics, and the differences inherent to each. This is what I like about local politics. It’s raw, dirty, and in your face. It’s tough to blow off someone whom you are likely to run into at the store buying groceries, and I’ve seen four of seven board members voted out of office on a single issue before. You just can’t get this kind of acountability at the federal level.

One last thing. I have only lived in Michigan for 4 years, and the people here are among the rudest, meanest, and nastiest people I have ever encountered. I’m not saying that thats everyone, but most people here are abhorrently mean to one another. ANd it’s almost like they are proud of it! There is very little sense of ‘common man’ or ‘civility’ here, it’s all “Get out of my way! I want that! That’s mine! Fuck off! I’ll kick your ass! I’m better than you!”

It’s like the East Coast?

Sorry man, I wasn’t ignoring you intentionally. Really busy. It’s a long story related to a rat wall, but stage 2 of my plan is commencing and I’d rather not have it out there just yet.

Looks like another government shutdown!

Did you have someone film it?

The town films all their council meetings, their crew was there doing it, and they are televised on local cable though I doubt many people watch it.[/quote]

Fail. You made a very good speech that emphasized the John Galt mood of the middle class these days. It can’t end up on YouTube or on someone’s blog if it isn’t recorded. You can get a good video camera for about $100 these days. You’re also a techie.

That reads just like our headlines out here.

Detroit: Too broke to bury their dead
Money to bury Detroit’s poor has dried up, forcing struggling families to abandon their loved ones in the morgue freezer.

MI Unemployment rate now 15.6%, up from 15.2%; wonder what the real rate is. Those are folks who are still in the count.

That state sure is suffering. Ohio’s not much better.

The rest of the nation might be having a recession but this part of the country (along with Nevada and Cal) are in DEPRESSION.

Obama and the Dems better institute price controls and just go hogwild with the spending (way more than now) or the depression will spread to the whole country.

Granholm gets served by Steve Wynn.

“Struggling families?” Newspeak euphamism alert here. Only the most immoral and apathetic leave their dead family members unburied and in the care of some disinterested government bureaucracy. I’m sure these “struggling families” all have the Dish network, blackberries, and thousands monthly in government aid and time for their crack habits.

I am in negotiations with the town supervisor on not only my situation, but the whole mindset they are taking toward enacting and enforcing township property ordinances. This has every other aspect of this on hold for me. If she does the right thing, I won’t feel right about blasting Redford Township publicly like I had planned, at least for the time being.

My second meeting with her is being scheduled tomorrow.

Hey Tribulus, any updates on the situation? How did that meeting go?

(is wondering if he’s in jail right now)

The meeting/s went badly. They don’t want me in their jail any more than I want to be there, but they tried to get me to bargain on their terms which still would have amounted to a surrender on my part. The town supervisor came to my house with the ordinance officer and his boss. I can’t really blame Tracy (we’re on a first name basis now. It’s pitiful) the town supervisor, she tried… I guess, but it wound up with me telling the ordinance guy what a useless pathetic human being he was and promising to cost this township 1000 times what they were trying to extort from me through their paying for my incarceration and diabetic care etc.

The next court date is Wednesday. My wife has my login information here so she can tell you guys if they lock me up. I will never ever give in.

I’ve been working on this.

Wow, I’m wondering what other course of action you could take here. Have you considered calling some of the churches in the area, telling them about this injustice(serious)? They could blow it off or something, but I know that one church, Covenant Community right there on Beech Daily, is concerned with community issues. Maybe they could back in you in this somehow and that would change the Townships mind on this issue. I don’t know

I always thought Redford was ran very effectively. They are only about a 2 minute ride from some very rough areas and yet they manage to keep crime down(well, not so much in North Redford), and they seem to be concerned with creating a ‘downtown’ Redford over at Beech and 5mile. And the cops used to let me and my cousin skateboard around at night time around the 5 mile & Beech area.

Oh well, sorry to hear about this. If there’s anything I can do, like sending out emails or calling people up or whatever, send me a PM. There probably isn’t though, so I’ll just wish you luck.

edit: another church that I know about that is in South Redford that may be interested in this is Hosana Tabor Lutheran Church(it’s also a school). I think they would be interested in something like this, helping out a Redford citizen.

Channel 7 news is gonna be here at 12:30!!!

Mike Rosenfeld and his cameraman just left. It’ll be on the 6 o clock news tonight.

I didn’t know how they did these things before today. They shot some footage with us earlier, went to the township to get their side and edited all the video out in their van. Now they’re in font of my house. They are going to broadcast live from my house interspersed with the edited footage from earlier. The township people have driven by about 5 times already too. This will either sink us or get them off my back. Either way I will never surrender.

Here’s the news piece:
