Michael Richards' Trial Balloon?

Again, you think racism has ever actually been erased? You think this is something “coming”. Race relations have been in trouble for a couple hundred years or so now. I hope you aren’t just noticing it.

What might happen is that having prominent people make total fools of themselves in this way may open up a dialog. It may help people notice and think about the undercurrent of racism that flows sharply around the foundations of America.

Something along the lines of “all men are created equal”. Ring any bells for you teach?

Anyhow, if we are pulling explanations out of our assholes, maybe it could also be a reflection of the fear and hatred that has been dumped onto the populace by the administration during each election cycle? Maybe all that fear and hatred everyone has picked up is looking for outlets?
You can save the insults, btw. My opinion of myself is not dependent on lowlife internet intellectual wannabes, like you. Use your energy to work on your 4 principles (LOL!).

Nuthunter, the “insults” are merely a reflection on the extreme inanity of your posts. It is very hard to take anything you are saying seriously… post something worth reading and I know my replies would reflect that.

Also, I’m certainly not trying to affect your blowhard “opinion of yourself” as that would surely be hopeless. I am trying to kick you in the ass enough times that some sensation gets through to your hindbrain.

Who Richards? I believe he is.
Or were you talking about harris?

Therefore, able to make stereotype jokes about ‘his people.’ Am, I wrong?
I guess, I don’t care really.

I guess I’m missing something you said earlier, because I’m not sure what that has to do with my response to harris?

Dustin

Yes, Harris. I assumed he was jewish, therefore (according to him), allowed to make jewish jokes. Now I’m wondering if he is.

No no. Harris is a pissed off black male with an enormous chip on his shoulder.

Look at his avatar, it’s a self portrait. That’s picture of him just before he knocks off a liquor store.

Seriously though, Harris hates white people. See how he took a clear, concise statement you made about how you detest the “N” word, then spun it around to make you look like the racist? That is typical of Harris to do though.

You al remember, Dusty, everybody!

He was the guy with the Neo-Nazi avatar that got chased off this site by, well…just about everybody!

Nice to see you back, shit-for-brains!

We all need to hear your opinion on racial matters.

Go ahead: we’re waiting with baited breath.

Shit-for-brains! LOL! It didn’t take you long did it?

As usual, you didn’t respond to my post. You just went straight to name-calling.

Yes harris, I ran away and hid. About 80% of the people who post in the ‘Politics and World Issues’ forum are ignoramuses and I could care less what they have to say. That’s why most of the old forum members won’t even touch this board anymore. It’s precisely the reason I don’t post much anymore.

I know your reading comprehension is that of a five year old, so go ask your mommy to read my last post for you. Then try your best to respond.
Why on earth would I respond to your posts point-by-point?

Do normal humans stand there and debate with people wearing Klan masks? Or the Black Israelites screaming nonsense in Times Square? Or fundamntalism Muslims?

No. Sensible humans recognize hatred for what it is, call it names, and laugh at it.

Like everyone here laughs at you.

And “sloth”…you should check dusty’s posts and see what kind of guy he is before you’re so thrilled a knight in shing armor came charging to your pretty little side.

Slow down Dusty, the comment Harris made may not apply to this or that particular individual, but it wasn’t completely inaccurate in general either.

Somewhere under all this there is actually a topic that can be addressed… or maybe the two of you would rather continue to pat each other on the back and offer each other mutual support or whatever the heck it is that is going on?

I wasn’t aware I was thrilled. Or, that I said anything to him along of that nature. I believe I asked him a question, and nothing more.

Pat each other on the back? What posts are you reading? I asked him one question. That hardly qualifies as patting each other on the back.

Anyways, Harris, are you Jewish? Is that why you get a pass on jew jokes? I wasn’t clear on why you do, yet, I don’t.

Okay, Vroom, one more time: racism lies somewhat dormant in a society. For some reason like a lost war (for us its actually because of the USA losing its hegemony, but that’s another thread) tribalism rises as individualism falls. People become identified by their clan, their gang, or whatnot. It begins to become popular to say one’s group is somehow better than another. Denigrating those not in a position to fight back becomes popular. Scapegoating for ones own faults increases.

Sound familiar? Its a description of life in the Weimar Republic.

I thought this might be a topic for intelligent discussion. Guess I was wrong.

Harris IS Jewish. He has said so in the past.

But he loves the work of Mel Gibson and the comedy of Michael Richards. Go figure…
Sloth wrote:

Yup. I’m a Jew.

Therefore, I can make Jew jokes and decide whether others’ jokes are offensive or not.

Same reason why if black people say that white people aren’t allowed to say “nigger,” but they themselves may say it, then you go with it.

Okay, now you are at least starting to put forth a cogent if not realistic hypothesis. That wasn’t so difficult was it? Now, the part where you fall down is when you try to walk into the next group of statements…

I don’t think there is any need to draw parallels to historic Germany in order to figure out what is happening. In fact, I’d say you are more than a bit nutty if you are trying to draw those parallels.

As much as I enjoy picking apart the administration and pointing out their tendencies, such as being overly willing to restrict rights and freedoms, to issue propaganda or being willing to whip fear into the populace, I don’t see any organized movement in the direction you opine about.

What I will give you is that fear, whether of terrorists or “others”, is a lever that can be used to manipulate people.

However, one reason you are wrong is that the general populace, the silent majority, will not tolerate this type of racism as part of a government agenda. Times have changed, people are not as ignorant as they once were.

If you bother to go back, you’ll see that I have offered criticisms of your concept and as wel as more current interpretations of what could be happening in society. If you are going to claim that you are looking for intelligent discussion, perhaps you should at least recognize it when it kicks you in the ass?
Headhunter wrote:

Did the historic nature of their work suddenly change or something? I mean, it was captured on film… they played their role and they did so very well.

Can you not appreciate fine work but not appreciate the attitudes of the worker? At least try to think and reason like an adult at times…

As for Mel, I don’t think you can easily be sure of his true feelings because of statements blurted out while drunk. Hell, if a man can fall in lust with a fat ugly woman while drunk I’m sure he can invent a reason to be angry at someone while drunk.

Whoa. Most people are aware of this phenomena, an angry drunk, or a drunk losing their temper over something, behaving differently than normal.

As for Michael, his case is a bit different. It does make you wonder if he has racist attitudes buried under there. Maybe he was on drugs but is afraid to admit it? You’d think he’d take that out if it was available though.

I have to wonder, according to your statements, should we reexamine our appreciation of all ancient works of art, and hence the artists, because, honestly, the further you go back in time the more racist attitudes were prevalent.

What a conundrum you pose!

Well, I don’t associate with anyone that uses the word. However, if one of my black friends did start to use it, that explaination wouldn’t fly with me. I’d ask him to refrain from doing so. If he chose to continue, we probably wouldn’t be hanging out. It’s ignorant and repulsive

It’s hard to take the vileness of the word seriously, when you hear it getting repeated over and over again. Maybe it’s where I live, but it seems to be a fad among a number of black youth.

Further, I’ve overheard white kids singing lyrics filled with the word. Hey, maybe it’s just a song and I’m being too old fashioned. Surely they can’t be blamed for singing the lyrics of a singer they follow?

I guess I’ll leave it up to sensible black persons to oppose the casual use of the word. That is, unless I’m a captive audience to it, at which point I’ll have my say.

I think its interesting to see Jesse Jackson with him. Jesse is known (at least in the past) for being very anti-Semetic. Now he want’s everyone to boycott the new Seinfield DVD so he can punish the whole Jewish cast none of whom have anything to do with this.

Jesse Jackson is a bigger racist than Richards ever thought of being. But he gets a free pass on that, and we all know why.

The “whole cast” is not Jewish. Seinfeld and Jason Alexander are Jewish. Not the other two.

Julia-Louis Dreyfus is also Jewish.

Nonsense! Judging people in different historical circumstances is not rational. Do we attack Lincoln for his racist humor? Get a grip, Vroom — you’re so intent to prove me wrong that you’re frothing at the mouth, and saying things below your usual level of intellect.

Note the lack of insults in my post. I gain nothing by belittling you. What do you get from belittling others?
