Why was Seinfeld there? Makes the whole apology thing look like “Hey Kramer, you racist fuck, our DVD sales will tank now. Get your ass in that chair and apologize. Make it look good, or I’m keeping your royalty checks to cover my losses.” “Yes, mastah Jerry.”
Why make this more than what it is? Mel Gibson is anti-semitic. Michael Richards is racist. You don’t say those kinds of those things in the way they did if that’s not the case no matter what kind of drugs you’re on or how drunk you are. Others are racist and anti-semitic. No one ever said these weren’t still real issues in our society. It’s shocking that public figures would spout such socially unacceptable discriminatory rhetoric. But it says nothing about the larger state of racism or anti-semitism in this country. They are two people.

Well, exactly what did he say he was TRYING to do? Has he claimed that he was just trying to be funny and in his distorted inner world these were funny comments?
I’m telling ya, he was just spitting out some lyrics for his new gangsta thug song. Sorry, the word has meant diddly squat since it became common hip hop venacular. It’s the “I’m black and can say it, but if any of you white boys use it, I’ll beat your ass” word. I really don’t care what context they use the word. Either it’s taboo, or not. Not both ways. Otherwise, it’s a joke.

Nuthunter,
Because I am feeling generous due to your obviously lacking mental state, I’ll drop you a clue. The racism in the USA has always been present.
However, over time, systematic racism has dwindled. Thank goodness.
The fact you think this might be some type of “move” towards racism when it has always been present and previously in very visible, severe and damaging ways, once again shows you to be the clueless nut that you are.
Congrats![/quote]
Vroom,
Can you ever disagree with people without attacking them personally? I really don’t think that you do this in “real life,” because if you did you probably would be too banged up to write any longer. Why can’t you disagree in an agreeable way?
I happen to agree with you on this one, believe it or not. Racism has always existed, unfortunately, even though systemic racism has been largely eliminated.
However, Richard’s rant fuled the embers that exist and fanned the flames of old passions and hurts in a terrible way. Imagine being a person of color hearing this.
Richard has exposed himself not only as a racist but also as a loon. He obviously needs some help, but in no way can he be excused at what he has done.
In short, his career, whatever was left of it, should be over. There is no place for someone who could treat others that way in the context of a comedy club.

I can and do all the time Steveo, but when the person I’m talking to is being an idiot, then I let loose.
Since your post actually sounds like it was written by an apparently normal person you’ll notice I’m not bothering to attack you for it.
Write the date on your calendar.
Anyhow, people that I disagree with in such a manner also would not be able to be such imbeciles in real life and be able to force their viewpoints on anyone…
Think about it.

Right. From the looks of thing, you would have to come UP to anyone’s level. Your post was retarded and didn’t even deserve a response. However, I will give you one anyway.
That word, like so many other things that were turned from a negative to a positive by blacks in this country throughout history, is not used the same way when referring to a friend or commonly between black people as it is when a non-minority uses it as an attempt to personally degrade someone. Mind you, I don’t use the term and most of the people I actually call friends don’t either with some making it a point to not use it…even though “you all” have a tendency to label us as a race instead of individuals.
People like you try your best to act as if there is no difference. You are usually also the types of people who will try to tell minorities what they have experienced in life…instead of ever listening to what was experienced. If someone does inform you, you then turn around and act as if it isn’t relevant or as if the perspective is wrong and only you are enlightened.
If you need it spelled out for you (as you clearly show most things probably need to be), this is also why any public presentation of racism that can’t be denied gets a spotlight shown on it and then capitalized upon.
Therefore, this issue would be less of an issue…if every time the issue was brought up, non-minorites weren’t acting as if it doesn’t exist or as if blacks don’t experience any more racism than other groups. Which is of course ridiculous.
I personally could care less about the comment itself. I never liked Seinfeld to begin with and have heard worse thrown at me. However, it is no surprise to me that since it is in the public eye, it will now represent every other time that blacks have tried to bring attention to racism and had it overlooked and the explanation of it degraded.
No doubt, you will simply get defensive at this post because there is no way an intelligent debate could grow from you.
If you really want to shock people…prove me wrong and respond with a post that mirrors at least an attempt to double your IQ so that we can read it without losing interest.

Ah, I see. So a double standard is drawn. One based on race. A little hypocritical, no?
I have to wonder why you would take offense at my post, if you yourself don’t use the word. Apparently, you must not approve of the practice either, correct? If so, good, we agree. Maybe you should reread my post. It had a bit of satire, I suppose. However, it’s clear that I’m condemning the word, used by whoever.
And, it’s rather often that I hear a black man use the word, in an unfriendly manner, to another black man. So, it’s not just limited to a term of endearment. Especially in the entertainment industry. Where is the widespread shunning, the media frenzy?
The use of the word, by blacks, is doubly offensive to me. It still carries it’s ugly history, regardless of intent, and race of the speaker. And, now serves as the “Black’s only Club” of speech. It’s draws a line in the sand, daring the other race to cross that line. That is a racist practice itself.
Sorry, I may be white, but I’m qualified to criticize the practice. I’m a human individual. And that is the only requirement to comment on this racially based double standard. Either a word is acceptable for all to use, or not. If the word is not acceptable, it should draw an even round of condemnation, regardless of the speaker’s race. Presently, it clearly doesn’t.

Ah, this stood out on the second reading. People like me. White, with an opinion. That kind. Sorry, my race nothing to do with my opinion and view on this. It’s an opinion that is also shared by many blacks. Especially older generation who find the word offensive, regardless of the speaker’s race.
Now, if you find that my race limits my ability to speak out on the issue, than perhaps you should examine your own prejudices.

You’re an idiot for SO MANY reasons.
In this speciic case, you’re a fucktard because you somehow believe–despite the total lack of proof, evidence, or even logic–that Kramer is part of some cabal trying to bring back segregated toilets or something.
He was ONE MAN. There was no conspiracy. This is not a trial balloon.
Shithead.

Th fact that you don’t seem to realize there is a difference between a black man saying “nigger” and a white man saying it suggests that the level you’re on is that of a third grader already.

Didn’t know you were omniscient there, Harris. Is that in addition to your open mind and willingness to look at possibilities? Didn’t think so.

Oh, is this FOX news? I can play this game.
What shit should I pull from a hat and paste onto you Headhunter? Should I call you racist? Homosexual? Perhaps a pedophile diddling his students? Then, if people, or you, get upset at what I’ve speculated then I can claim they don’t have an open mind.
You are the buffoon that is proposing something preposterous so it is incumbent upon you to actually back it up.
I know FOX news doesn’t train you to expect blatant lies and fabrications to be supported by facts, or anything like evidenced at least, but you still have to do that to be taken seriously.
You can’t really be this much of a doofus can you? Stop talking. Every time you open your mouth you paint a worse picture of yourself.

Vroom,
Richards’ rant is a cultural marker, a sign of things to come. Gibson got the ball rolling. Soon, making fun of blacks, hispanics, whoever, will become a standard.
You can save the insults, btw. My opinion of myself is not dependent on lowlife internet intellectual wannabes, like you. Use your energy to work on your 4 principles (LOL!).

And apparently you’re on the Pre-school level. Hello, read my posts again! I pointed out the double standard. That’s what I take issue with.
