Michael Phelps, Athleticism and Marijuana.

I have seen a documentary about the Race across America and they reportedly need 15000 kcals a day.

They get infusions because nobody can eat that and still perform any physical feats.

I highly doubt that he can.

I would believe 7-8000 cals a day though, that would be doable. I could eat 8 supersized burgers a day.

Not without exploding sooner or later, but I could.

marijuana actually slightly elevates cortisol, so the “relaxation” use may not be so beneficial for us. I would cite a source, but I’m a tad lazy :P
Clearly you’ve never smoked weed after a ME squat/deadlift workout. It also makes it easier to cram a shit-ton of food down your gullet after said workout.

As for people saying Phelps uses marijuana to enhance his training/performance is off the wall retarded, though.

maybe it’s because I’m from california but its a well known fact that swimmers/water polo players, etc are mostly stoners.

maybe he just likes to smoke weed.

who gives a f*ck for what reason.

I smoke a lil ganj on occasion too…hmmm maybe Gerdy does it as some sort of pre-contest ritual and it gives him the appetite stimulation to feed more cals to get rid of the doms…then he rubs the resin on his elbows before the bench press. lol

I think its retarded how people got their panties all in a bunch when he decided to smoke a lil herb. Shoot with all the endorsements and stuff this guy has going on he was probably just tokin to relax like most people who smoke weed do.

lol

*that wasn’t a slam on anybody in this thread…just the whole phelps thing in general

LMAO! Gerd, fuck bro I damn near died inhaling some cottage cheese. “Maybe Gerdy does it as some sort of pre-contest ritual” Priceless! Rubs it on his elbows! lol Back to the subject, the man has to puff the magic dragon in order to eat that much nuff said. I crank out a Marley every now and then mainly to sleep like a baby on the weekends. Yes I listen to Marley, the Gladiators, etc while I do it. I guess popular American media talking heads don’t want their golden, 100% all natural, free-range, cage free, grass fed, free of rGBH, holy, pure, boy to get caught up in any sort of drug related scandal. I say let the boy puff. No harm in that, its not like he’s going to get stoner’s rage like in him breaking in at a Kwik-E and eating everything made my Doritos and drinking straight from the bib at the slushy machine to only then pass out in a ditch.

+1 ty45.

Once baked its actually way easier to focus on a single task.

Really? I used to try and do co-operative tasks with people who were stoned, and it felt like trying to order around a fucking 5 year old.

Not true. Every stoner I knew who played sports got better once they started playing their games high. It took some time, but eventually coming to the game baked made them play better. Wonder why Ricky Williams smoked weed before his games?
Im not talking about while actually playing a sport.

I dont believe that even smoking with a vaporizer is conducive to athletic performance in the long run.

There have been alot of studies that say positive and negative things about weed and its effect on estrogen, and protien synthesis.

I dont think there is much of a consensus on the matter.

But lets look at the facts, it is infact inhaling smoke, however little, and it does nothing to increase protien synthesis, nor keep you active.

In my book that means its not helping, and its certainly hurting, albeit a very small amount.

I very much enjoy weed, but its incorrect to say that its helpful to bodybuilding for anything more than stress relief.

That said, I believe most of us enjoy alcohol too, which is infact terrible for building muscle, but we still do it.

Not me, buried that hatchet a long time ago. After many sleepless nights, many packs of Shermans, after bedding a score of random women, after many “Ty, Johnny, Ricky, dudes! where the fuck are the trucks?” moments when the blatantly obvious fleet of lifted Super Dutys is nowhere in sight, after destroying many a hotel room to the dismay of the already screwed over cleaning lady, after many drunken C-walking moments holding a blunt while listening to country music namely Hank Williams Jr (I was also donning my country gear), after many a bar fight to which for some reason we always made it out alright and out of the reach from the boys in blue. Always jumping in the trucks like a male set of Charlie’s Angels after we laid waste to the opponents, mildly drunk and always breaking loose the 38s or bigger tires. With one truck blasting country, the other rap, the little one (ricky only had a 6 inch lift) playing Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, or some Mexican narco-corrido, and mine keeping it real with Yoji Biomehanika. Good times, living high on the hog due to the housing boom. The money flowed in and just as fast out. To the point that one of our comrades transformed into Patron, his Mexican alter ego when the man was a cornfed redneck. After several cadillacs at $12 a pop and 6 shots deep we knew Patron would be joining us soon. Always insisting on drinking from the finest because damn it we were fucking worth it. Going outside to chain-smoke and to see the crowd staring at the fleet. Always patronizing Ricky for his lesser size truck and on the look-out for a girly that would want to ride in my rig and me later on. Always calling Rick’s small because it wasn’t 8’ or better i.e bigger. He always got pissed (he would always say in his endearing heavily accented english, “Puto! you just compenzating.” He knew it didn’t work on me but he always tried) but we always would buy him enough booze to loose self control and better judgement and motion for him to grind on the unsuspecting male bar patron that would almost guarantee a bloody brawl and a good time. Truly good times. I guess we all got old, the economy tanked, I decided to take bodybuilding seriously, and several other factors just cleared our heads. Completely random and heavily thread jacking but I was just reminiscing and Id thought Id share.

I’d say it all boils down to moderation and responsible use. And in Phelps case being intelligent enough to realize allowing people to take pictures of you when toking on a big bong is bad idea.

Regarding sports performance I have noticed it can be beneficial. When stoned you can get into a zone when doing something. Best bowling i’ve ever done was high, and I’m a better lawn dart player when high. Things that have a basic repetitive motion seem to benefit, or at least potentially benefit in my case. But i wouldn’t want to play a sport that requires quick thought and reaction, like hockey or football etc.

I see no athletic benefit from it, strictly for recreation/recovery.

I don’t really do anything with it unless I’m free and clear for an evening (usually on a Saturday night) and simply want to get caught up in a Blu-Ray and get a good nights sleep.

It doesn’t make me more talkative or engaging, it doesn’t make me more focused or “in tune” with myself. It makes me sit, watch, and fucking relax for a while.

That being said, the only athletic experience I’ve had with it was golfing, and I found it to be too sunny, too warm, too green, and too much work to do anything but watch the wind blow the palm trees along the fairway. Doing that along with anything athletic, for me anyway, is counterproductive. I can’t fathom partaking before a workout, it’d be straight up dangerous.

However, the Planet Earth series on Blu-Ray is the shit.

This needs to be brought up more in pot threads.
