How was he incredible for them? He didn’t play on any of the albums. I don’t think the 99% of Metallica fans you’ve spoken on behalf of would agree.

He wasn’t incredible for them. Anyone who believes so obviously doesn’t know what he is talking about. End of discussion.
The best things to happen to both Mustaine and Metallica was for Mustaine to get kicked out of Metallica

x2. they saved his life when they kicked him out. guy was OD’ing on everything.
tho I’d hate to wake up every day seeing how im not a part of the biggest heavy metal band in the world.he himself said it really fucked him up mentally, talking about how Kirk stole his place in the band etc. there was bad blood for decades between Dave/James/Lars that kinda ended when they started doing the Big 4 shows.
There was an article on Guitar Aficionado that represents Kirk Hammett pretty well. He’s got a house in the Bay Area and Hawaii, he’s pretty grounded
Apologies for not being able to find the actual article, but if you’re a Metallica fan, it’s pretty interesting to see these guys age and become gentlemen to a degree.

That would fuck me up too but Mustaine has done pretty well on his own, Megadeth is part of the original big four of thrash, Motorhead, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth; and when Metallica put out all that shit in the 90’s-00’s(whiskey in a jarooo; really fucking really James?!!!) Megadeth was more true to their roots and put out kick ass music.
Although watching that reunion during Some Kind of Monster made me cringe the estorgen was strong in that film. It was so bad I had to watxh three hours of hardcore lesbian porn to get my left nut to function properly after watching that.
If you were going for musicianship, Megadeth always has more talented players in the band. Metallica HAD some great songs, but they aren’t very good players.
SolidK, I’m hoping you’re gonna back me up!

Chris Broderick is probably a better all around player than Kirk , considering his classical background. Slipknot drummer (forgot his name) is a better drummer, yet when he played with metallica when Lars was sick, they actually didnt sound as good.
so in a band context, if the player fits the band to make it sound better, who cares how good he is. Lars is probably the best drummer for metallica’s sound because he’s not overpowering with talent. replacing Kirk with Vai or Satriani wont give metallica anything.

I agree with you, a random awesome guy could actually detract from the sound. It is the sum of the parts for sure. But that being said, Kirk is a pretty rudimentary guitar player. His best and most inspired stuff, for me, was on Justice. Even then, very few of his solos were played from start to finish, there are a ton of punch in’s and comped tracks.
When I hear Metallica I always wish the solos were better. And you know of course, Kirk didn’t play any guitar other than solos on any of records through and including the Black album. He’s not a big contributor in my book.

The only negative thing I can say about Kirk is that his slide playing was horrible.
I only saw Metallica once in Toronto, great show. It was the one way back in the nineties when Hetfield burned his arm in Montreal a few days before the TO show and couldn’t play. They hired I believe some dude who played in a Metallica cover band lol.

Kirk is by far the coolest, least douchey member of the band.
I agree.
And I always found his somewhat effeminate manner to be pleasantly antithetical to heavy metal’s macho display!
lol
Out of the ~1800 guys I’ve played with over the past decade, only a handful could be considered “macho”. All these xenoestrogens… its pathetic.
There was a guitar player years ago for Alice Cooper who was fucking jacked. After the show we were all wondering who the bodybuilder was on stage shredding lol. No idea what his name was.

This is as obvious as an avalanche.
Many people can play well, but not many can write well.
If people want to start bullshitting about musicianship, start a thread about Steve Vai or something.

Justice was the best for me, I saw the tour. The way they treat Newstead was terrible. They actually had stickers made up that said “Now with more bass!” and would put them on copies of Justice and then wake Jason up in the morning by tossing said CD’s on to him. But James and Lars are assholes. My buddy is the drummer for Trouble and he’s an old friends of Truijillo, and he’s told me some stories about those guys…
I wanna hear these stories! Devulge!
I can’t tell too many, but…If Cliff hadn’t died they were gonna fire Lars. The Black album took 9 months to record just the drums. Because Lars has totally lost his skills by then.
Is there any truth to the rumour that the drums in Dyers Eve were pieced together from multiple takes because Lars couldn’t play fast enough?
I don’t really listen to Metallica much now after seeing Some Kind of Monster. After watching James and Lars bitch and cry like children for 2+ hours, and the way they treated Newstead, I was kind of turned off them. St Anger didn’t help much either.

he fucking left the fucking band
but really, these guys still kicking it after 30 years because they took care of their self destruction. james left the band for a year to go on rehab and back then it looked like the end of metallica.

Lars and James where always the bad guys, they talked about it in interviews when MTV still showed music videos, they treated Jason like shit because he wasn’t Cliff, that clip really pissed me off I choose to remember this band when they had some T in them and where angry beer drinking rockers not this bad impression of premadonna douchebags they’ve become
I don’t know I might be inclinded to agree Megadeth is the more consistant band as far as sound where as Metallica went into an emo stage after the black album. Also Unforgiven 2 and fucking 3???
When I was in elementary school (probably 4th or 5th grade) my mom bought me my first CD. My dad had a guitar with a sick Metallica emblem on the back, so I sort of knew who they were, but had yet to have my face blown off by them, so I decided to pick up Master of Puppets. I hopped into my moms mini-van and blared that shit all the way home. I listened to every single song day in and day out. Best album IMO, but that’s somewhat of a bias opinion
Seen them live in 8th grade alongside Godsmack. Fucking wicked concert.
Here is one of my favorites at the moment:
EDIT: Rainn Wilson looks like Lars Ulrich in The Rocker.
