I leaned out this summer on the Anabolic Diet. I was on the diet for 4.5 months and it worked great for me. Since I came off it, I have had no appetite. I’ver heard about ‘metabolism damage’ in the past. Just wondering if anyone could tell me if this is for real and what it is?
Metabolic damage is a fancy way of saying your cells are starting to not work the way they should. The rate at which this occurs depends on many things. In this particular case mitochondrial damage would be the likely culprit.
More likely, assuming you are feeling alright other than the lack of appetite, your condition is either related to changes in brain/body function related to the diet like losing your sugar addiction (or anything that releases like it), an endocrine issue (I’m thinking thyroid, but other hormones should be checked too), or simply it could be emotional stress (assess your relationships, cash situation, work life). Or all, some, or none of the above.
You should be able to tell pretty quickly if it is an emotion related issue, if not, a blood panel will rule out endocrine disruptions. Actual mitochondrial damage is unlikely considering that you had success with the diet and haven’t posted any symptoms other than reduced appetite.
Also, metabolic damage occurs from damn near starving yourself. If you were eating adequately, then you did not suffer metabolic damage.
Thanks very much. I’m due for a physical anyway. Hopefully my blood tests come back ok. Thanks again.
