1 1/2 yrs ago I was in a bad car accident. The car slid off a mountain rolling what seemed infinite times. Many bones broken, back herniated, nerve damage. I was confined to a bed for many months. The rest of the months have been spent rehabing. I am walking fine now but unable to train for a long time based on a few Docs.
I am not gonna moan about a lost physique cause I am glad to be alive. I had 10 yrs of SOLID training prior to this. My body now has turned to mush you would never ever guess I even worked out in my life. I can’t seem to address the change in my metabolism, mainly due to not eating and long periods of inactivity.
I have no Idea how to correct a metabolism, and especially doing so only by walking, hiking and biking. Food just sits in my stomach, I can’t seem to just normalize my metabolic rate. I also digest protein very slowly, when I eat carbs like oatmeal I blow up and get puffy. I want to take these next months to just normalize my sluggish metabolism.
I eat like eggs for breakfast with spinach, or peppers, chicken salad for lunch, and dinner is usually fish or steak with veggies and healthy fats. I uaually add some extra fruit to that mix. I know my total cals are so low. being that I am not working out my carbs are low, but that to has effected my metabolism. When I start increasing carbs I just blow up anyway. How Does one reset his metabolism if it has been crashed for a while?
First I would say get all your blood profiles teste thyroid etc to be sure you dont have a problem there.
After that just nail many small meals of GOOD whole foods and oprotien every meal. make an effort to slowly up your intake gradually. Metabolism chases intake. Also try and slowly up your activity as well.
Jus take it slow. Glad to hear you came out OK and have a pretty damn good attitude considering,
May I suggest trying “soft” foods for a while. After my surgeries and weeks without food, I found it very difficult to eat anything that had to be broken down, like steak and chicken. I ate a lot of eggs and yougurts and shit like that and gradually increased solid protein over the course of a couple months. I’ve had to do this more times than I would have liked to, but this has been my way to pick myself up after being down for so long. It’s a bitch, but I relate absolutely. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice, I will take all those things in to consideration. I think I am gradually trying to up my carbs and calories. Going more for a zone diet than just P+F and veggies. It stinks not training but all I can do is inch at it.
