Metabolic Drive Better Than Whey?

While laziness is a trait Iâ??m fond of, I scoured through about 10 pages without finding an answer I was looking for. Without a search function, seems easier to make a new post. Yeah yeah, this is a long read. Better long and informative then being harassed by yall for lacking the facts.

Made it a goal at the start of 2012 to get into Muay Thai and secondly transform my diet. Its been an unbearably slow process but the dedication is starting to pay of. Ever since January Ive slowly been cutting things from diet and replacing them with far healthier options.

Understanding what my body needs and responds best to is a work in progress and Im constantly making changes to see what yields the best result.

That being said, theres no goal weight in mind. Looking to find the right mix between endurance and power to help last me through the brutal training/sparring sessions I go through. Back in college while playing competitive club ball weighed in at the low 200s. Fast forward two years later and following a fracture to each, thee scale was reading any where from 230-240 lbs.

As things stand, Im around 6â??2ish and weigh around 200lbs depending whether you see me pre/post workout. Best guess, BF is low teens. Typical training sessions run 2-3 hours (cardio, bag work, pads, sparring, etc…). Throw in long runs (5+ miles) and balling when I can.

Currently running an IF scheme. Typical calorie intake on training days looks like this;

Lunch (2pm)
Salad (Lettuce, Carrots, Cucumbers, Lite Ranch Dressing)
10 oz milk with 1 scoop of ON 100% Gold Standard
Apple, Banana
2 Slices of Wheat Bread
Can of Tuna
Handful of Cashews

Dinner (930pm)
Two Bacon Cheddar Cheese Patties
2 Slices of American Cheese
Two Hamburger Rolls
10 oz milk with 1 scoop of ON 100% Gold Standard
Apple, Banana
1 Strawberry Banana Greek Yogurt
Handful of Cashews

Supplements: Controlled Labs Multi and Fishoil. Scivation XTEND

Was curious to see what you guys thought of Metabolic Drive line and whether that would be an improvement over the ON Gold Standard? While the Biotest products are pricier then the competition, its worth it to spend on a quality product that is leagues above the rest.

Has anyone noticed an improvement in training sessions/recovery while using this? Any other recommendations you guys think would be beneficial.

Side Note: Took creatine up until a month ago, quit when I realized they were giving me unpleasant side effects.

Metabolic Drive contains whey AND casein. After reading a good number of sources citing that a protein blend of these two types is superior for overall muscle growth as well as preventing catabolism, I stopped worrying about taking whey post workout and casein before bed and just started buying one protein powder (Met Drive). This was a good number of years ago, and I think I can honestly say that I’ve made better gains the last 5-6 years than ever before (this not being the sole reason, but just from being smarter about a lot of things).

With a blend like Met Drive, you’re still getting all the benefits of whey at times when you want fast absorption, but you’re also getting the slower casein as well. No brainer in my book.

It doesn’t make a difference IMO. Metabolic Drive is the best tasting protein drink for me so I treat myself to it from time to time but as long as your protein is from a high quality source “slow” proteins doesn’t really matter.

Agreed with one caveat.

A drink/meal with just whey (outside of the WO windwo) will be inferior to a mix.

Myself however, my shakes outside the workout window contain plenty of fat that I doubt casein will make much of a difference.

I agree with what’s been said about Metabolic Drive trumping regular whey, but really, with your training schedule and the type of training you’re doing, you might want to look into Surge Workout Fuel.

It’s not a protein supplement at all, but it’s got specialized carbs and other goodies that can improve endurance, intensity, and recovery. Having some before and/or during training sessions made a noticeable difference in how long I can maintain 100% during a session (still going hard 20 sets into a workout instead of starting to slow down after 12 or so).
