I had a couple thoughts on this game.

  1. High def TV makes hockey so much better to watch. I played club in college, understand the game, and use to hate watching the NHL because so much of the game was lost to the technology. In high def you can see the puck and the stick work. The NHL needs to invest in getting as much of its game in HD as possible. They also need to use more TV angles. You lose part of the game when the puck is hidden on the boards.

  2. Nash is a monster.

  3. The USA has a lot of young talent.

Congrats to Canada…great game. Hopefully this becomes a rivlary that elevates the awareness in the US. They need to show more international hockey on TV in the US.[/quote]

wtf… all the NHL games arent in high def yet?

One thing I gotta say is that I dont really like watching NHL hockey games. With Olympic hockey its fast passed and ppl are just playing. It seems like NHL games go on for nearly twice as long as the Olympic game cuz after every play a fight breaks out and they need to break it up. They should leave teh fighting to UFC fighters.

There are also no ad breaks in olympic hockey which I loved

This is the first time I’ve ever heard of someone who thinks fighting makes hockey less interesting. I went to an MMA fight once and a hockey game broke out. There really isn’t that much fighting in the NHL any more. There are fights in only about 40% of games nowadays.

The refs were also phenomenal for most of the tournament! They got a great flow in so many of the games. The no commercial breaks really allowed a team like the US with four lines designed to roll through to work in their favor. It should have helped Canada as well, but that Neidermayer/Pronger combination just didn’t pan out how they wanted it to.

Good work to both teams. Congrats to Canada for still being the only country to medal gold in men’s and women’s at the same olympics - and to the women for 3 straight golds.

Kudos to Pat Kane, a 21 year old who was like lightning on ice yesterday. Swear the guy had a jetpack on the way he was moving. Amazing backcheck on crosby in the final minutes to stop a breakaway attempt!

After these olympics I’m going to have to put Chicago on my radar of “teams I want to watch.” I’m really a complete hockey fan, so I love to just watch games in the end.

Those olympics were amazing. The NHL can’t say no to Sochi after a top to bottom performance like that. It was absolutely stunning for the game of hockey.

Kopecky, Hossa, Kane, Toews, Seabrook, Keith… all in the Olympics and all on the Blackhawks. They are so god damn exciting to watch, after watching the gold medal game I decided to get some tickets for Mar. 23rd v. the Coyotes.

Man there are NHL teams that are not even broadcasted on TV. There is a lame national TV contract, but there are many teams that don’t even have local TV broadcast. Up until about four years ago the Blackhawks were never on TV. Think about that shit. One of the orginal teams, in a cold climate city, in one of the largest TV markets–just not on TV at all. Awful.
