In my opinion, If David Bowie, Mick Jagger, or Jimmy Page painted their fingernails, I’d say they could do it and make it look good. Hell, anything they do pretty much qualifies as awesome. However, most of the guys who paint their nails are not David Bowie, Mick Jagger, or Jimmy Page.
I don’t really give a crap what other men do anyway, and if you want to paint your nails, or wear girl jeans or one of those shiny belts go right ahead. But I’d rather not be seen with you.

I personally don’t ridicule how anyone looks, because it has nothing to do with me, nor do I think it’s gay. It’s just something that I don’t understand. Having dirty, and/or long fingernails, is just plain repulsive to me.
I have had them painted by a girfriend before, because it was something she always wanted to do, so…
It stayed on for a night, then out came the nail polish remover, which smells awful.
Keeping your nails clean and short is just hygeine - no one’s saying men shouldn’t be clean and look after themselves. I’ve had girlfriends paint mine before in the past, too.
I don’t see why men would paint their nails - what do you do it for? I mean, is it just because it looks cool, or what? Certainly it can’t be to attract the opposite sex.
What’s with everyone having their girls paint their nails? Hell, even I don’t do that.
Ok, you were just going on about how we shouldn’t judge you on the fact that you paint your nails, and I agree.
Now, you decide that there’s something wrong with guys who let girls paint their nails. Hell, if it makes them a little happier, why the fuck should care?
It’s not like she’s putting makeup on me, and putting my hair in ponytails.
Nobody respects a hypocrite.
I’m not being a hypocrite. I was asking a question. I never said there was anything wrong with it, I just don’t understand why people who are against men painting their nails would let their girlfriends do it to them. That’s hypocritical.
And why do we draw a line between painting nails and putting on makeup?
Again, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with it, nor calling you out. I’m simply curious as to how people think about this. It seems strange to me.
Whe you say, “What’s with everyone having their girls paint their nails? Hell, even I don’t do that.” it looks like you’re attatching a negative connotation to it. That’s why I said what I did.
Again, I don’t understand why a guy paints his nails, but at the same time, I don’t care. To each his own. There’s way too many judgemental people in this world, anyhow. People should worry about being true to themselves, and stop worrying about how other people look.
I’d want my kid to feel comfortable in his own skin, and not have society tell them what they should look, act, or how to live. If my boy wanted a pink room, play with dolls, or pick wild flowers, cool.
But, if you try to conform him into something he’s not wired to be, expect a nice backlash when he hits his teens. I’m sure there’s a number of people on here have been through these kinds of situations before.
Vicomte, I understand what you’re saying. It’s cool.
Anytime people don’t understand something, question it, and try to understand. There’s more than one way of thinking, and just because you don’t understand something, it doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
Exactly. We’re on the same page, brother. I was just bustin’ everyone’s balls. A bit of discussion on a Sunday afternoon is good fun for all.
I figured we were, until I saw that response. It caught me by surprise and that’s why I reacted the way I did.
So, when’s the pajama party?
Tonight at my place. I’ll bring the nail polish. We’re gonna have sooooo much fun!
OMG!! I’m SO there!!
We’ll paint our nails, then toes, promptly after the pillow fight, this way we won’t have to worry about messing up our freshly painted digits.
Its wrong. WRONG! I don’t care if its 2008 or 2020 when guys are wearing high heels. Damn “new wave” open mindedness.
I’ll make my own country where we won’t have to deal with dumb shit like this.

I guess you’re not coming to the party, huh?
You must think that you’re too good for us, you BITCH.
I don’t have time for pajama parties. I got a war to win.

War is postponed until after the pajama party, per Geneva Convention precedence. Even Hitler took some time off for pillow fights and gossip.
men shouldnt paint their fingernails for the same reason women shouldnt wear butch haircuts
it’s out of gender

fixed.
Most guys I’ve seen that paint their nails are the same ones that are so fucking skinny that their elbows are much larger in diameter than their upper arm, wear pants that my sister couldn’t even fit into when she was 12,
have long ass hair covering half their face, and shirts that are 2 sizes too small (which is hard b/c they are so fucking tiny you would think they could even wear a baby’s shirt no problem).

no and that is a good point.
and I get what you are saying. I do suppose pretty pink nails would look a bit odd on a fella
Nothing wrong with getting a manicure, keeping your hands/nails clean and short, etc…its the painting of them that makes one raise an eye brow.
That’s fucking gay.
This thread makes me want to paint my nails.

It’s called the feminization of society and it began as far back as Phil Donahue…
What’s intrinsically feminine about nail polish? Tribal peoples and ancient civilizations colored their bodies in various ways throughout history.
Males of various species are more colorful than females, like birds. It’s feminine because you have always been told it’s feminine, and for no other reason. Eventually people need to grow up and actually think about why they believe the things they believe.
the body color you speak of is called tatoo.
the nails in modern times is a huge difference.
dude it is a bit “fruity” is there a little seceret we should be kept to yourself?
I’m not speaking of only tattoo. Peoples have colored all parts of their bodies in all sorts of ways. Romans dyed their hair, Egyptians wore makeup, American Indians painted their faces–there are countless examples of this.
Why is a colored tattoo acceptable but colored nails are not? There is no difference, only that this anomaly differs from your perception of what a man does.
Egyptians wore make-up because it showed that wealth and power. The lower classes couldn’t afford it.
American Indians wore face paint for several reasons: to look more intimidating, to blend into the enviroment when they hunted, and as part of rituals.
Romans dyed their hair when they could afford it. It showed that they had money to spare and were above others.
They also did it because they liked the way it looked. Whatever it represented, whether they liked the look of power, wealth, whatever, they did it because they liked to, just like men today who paint their nails. Why is it not gay if I need more money to do it?
I said it looked messed up. I never said it was gay. And I just pointed out these things to say that the MAIN reason why they did it.

Those guys never looked good but they put out good music.
None of these things(painting nails, the color pink, etc.) are inherently or objectively feminine by themselves. There is no value attached to them whatsoever besides what we as humans and societies give them.
Our western way of viewing them attaches female qualities/attributes to them and any man who defies his gender role(even in such a trivial and insignificant way) by wearing nail polish, for example, will open himself up to criticism from other members regardless of whether their objections are grounded in logic(a sound case for why he should not wear nail polish).
I see it as a non-issue, objectively. However, I have been raised to view such deviations as bizarre and humorous…feelings not grounded in reasoned thinking.
