Yeah, me too. I’m firmly in the “happily ever after” camp, but that’s for me, not everyone. A lot of people pursuing casual sex seem unhappy and to those people I might suggest a change-up. Agreed. No-one should care about the expectations of random strangers on the internet. I want a lot more than sex from a relationship, but it’s cool if people want something else. What matters is being true to your own values, and not conforming to the whims of others.

I was talking about where SOME people are hedonic, and I never said anything about avoiding personal responsibility.

I have more an issue with people who use denial, guilt and shame with respect to the pursuit of pleasure (not just sex), and then who subsequently use that as a basis for a morally judgmental attitude.

Now, talking purely philosophically, I actually think a society devoid of personal responsibility – whether hedonic or not – is doomed to failure.

Unfortunately, uncommitted sex lends itself towards certain kinds of social ills. Keep in mind that even protected sex is not 100% effective and even if it was there would still be problems.

Babies out of wedlock hurts us all. STDs hurts us all. Even not having children hurts us all. Family units are of the utmost importance and a lax attitude towards sex makes creating and maintaining family units that much more difficult.

As sort of a disclaimer, I’m not singling anyone out. This isn’t a personal attack towards anyone.

I roughly agree with you. What I’m not sold on is the importance of the family unit. I’ve seen people who’ve come from large, pretty functional family units, and not turn out so great. I’ve also seen people who grew up with social support structures outside of their own non-family, and done very well for themselves.

I’ve just not seen much evidence that maintaining a family unit is really that significant provided ethical, emotional, and intellectual support structures still exist.

At this point I’d just want a girl for the banging. It’s perfectly normal for a healthy independent person to think that way. I found a girl I wanted to date, but didn’t because I didn’t want to spend the time. I’m more focused on my career and education at the moment. I think your problem is you can not focus on what is actually said.

This all started over a simple statement I made in a past thread about your derogatory judgement based on a certain body part. Not my body part.
