As long as no one gets all hopped up on oxycontin and starts ragdollin people, whats the harm?

I agreed up to the last part. There are just as many conservatives that are just as bad. To say that its just extreme liberals is ridiculous.
I’ve said it over and over though. The politics forum is a politics forum- it is brutal, sometimes nasty, and sometimes outright petty. But if you don’t dig it, talk politics somewhere else.
I try to stay above personal attacks, but it happens sometimes. Whatever. Its just the damn internet.
I think what Zeb is saying is that more often than not in an intense discussion it is the liberals who bring out the name calling before the conservatives. For example, if you say you disagree with the homosexual lifestyle the next thing you are going to see is someone calling you a homophobe.

Possibly, but I’ve never seen anyone say “I disagree with the gay lifestyle,” without the words ‘faggot’, ‘deviant’, ‘pervert’, or ‘sinner’ coming up.
Then, you deserve to be called names.
i am pro gay rights, gay marriage/ adoption whatever
but ill drop the word faggot, or call something gay
im never talikng about actual homosexuals when i say it, buti dont really go for the PC police scene

Hey Irish, did you see the little smilely face after the last one I wrote? No, I didn’t think so.
That’s one of the problems with this form of communication, the subtleties are lost…Oh well.
For the record, I totally agree with you, some on both sides can get carried away at times with the personal attacks. And I think it makes them look petty and weakens instead of strengthens their original point.
While you and I are on opposite sides of the political fence I think your style of debate is not only effective but always above board. And most importantly you have a sense of humor.
Furthermore, you leave the political talk (and attitudes) where it belongs on the political thread only!
Hey…you wanna have a beer sometime…
LOL

You could be right. In fact, you are probably right.
I do tend to be a fairly sarcastic and caustic person, though to my credit I am just as much a prick in real life as on the internet. ![]()
The reason Grey started this thread (and, btw, we have exchanged PMs and talked like adults and we’re probably a lot more alike than either of us would admit to in public.) was because of me blowing up at some guy who started in with the ‘faggot’ bullshit.
This has been simmering on this site for a while, and with me in particular, and the fact that this specific poster had the balls to judge anyone drove me nuts.
Now, I’m not gay, but some of my most beloved family and friends are. I cannot and will not in good conscience let hate-filled bullshit go by.
As I’ve said before: I LOVE THIS PLACE. It has made a tremedous, positive impact in my life. That said, I would hate to think that even one person clicked ther browser shut upon seeing some of the ignorance that goeson in these forums, never to come back.
So, that happened.

Dude, there is nothing wrong with the word “deviant”, and it is an accurate use of the term to apply it to gays, look it up.
For the record, I have never called anyone a faggot, pervert, or sinner on T-Nation.

Fat people.
Ex-cons.
Weak people.
People who have a problem spelling.
Religious people (all of them)
Gay people.
By laughing at someone elses troubles or religious beliefs shows how little class you have.
I’m probably guilty at times but there are some of you out there who hate everybody who doesn’t fit your image of the perfect man.
I’m happy that at least YOU have attained perfection and would be delighted if you could share your secrets with the rest of us.
I just found it amusing.
Oh and I’m not talking about cracking on skinny kids who post pictures with stupid questions…they deserve what they get but calling someone a moron because he/she believes in God is just downright uncool.
It’s also quite amusing that most of these posters keep a real tight lid on their own personal lives yet stomp the shit out of the guy who had the guts (or stupidity as the case may be) to tell us something personal about himself…
Just my thoughts.
That’s interesting, because what I’ve seen you type in other threads has always seemed hate filled to me.
For example, going after Zeb in the ‘pecs’ thread. You went for the jugular, completely unrelated topic and you were into him. Here’s a tip: take a big breathe. RELAX.
People don’t change unless they want to change. You can’t make them change by typing out your bile into cyberspace.

I generally only try to attack what a person says, not the actual person. Although this is hard sometimes, I don’t think abusing people gets your point across (unless that is the point).
If I want to abuse dumb motherfuckers, I’ll open my office door. At T-Nation, I’d sooner talk to people that share a common interest and pick their brains (not literally. Yet.) about things that are going to help me do what I want to do. I’d sooner talk to Harris about training than discuss gays and their lifestyle.

The problem is harris has his opinion about gays, and others don’t agree. He is rather intolerant about that.
Yes, Jesus Christ loved drunks, whores, and gays, as well as the secret sinner. All sin nevertheless.
Just a biblical opinion harris, you can take it or leave it.

If you believe this, then why would you jump on Harris whose original post that even sparked this was in reference to someone else making retarded comments about gays in reference to demonic posession? How did you come to thinking that he is the one intolerant?
Fuck all you motherfuckers.
Now, I have a small penis, I’m skinny and I’m pale. I curl my mighty 30lb dumbells, lateral raise my mega 10lb dumbells, and I can bench a super-human 100lbs. Make fun of me if you want, it’s not like the words of some guy I’ll never meet affect me.
I also have a very hairy ass. Seriously, it catches my shit sometimes and I have to pull it out with a fork.
Seroiusly, though. I don’t see the problem with insulting someone over the Internet, if it bugs you that much, click on that little X in the top right corner of your screen.

Good idea.
A friend of mine once told me to “kill it with fire”. Is that also a good idea?

LMAO! Honestly…I just about woke up the kids laughing!
As for the actual thread…I don’t like the name calling and in some cases abuse that goes on, however; it makes for amusing reading sometimes. People can be petty…we all are sometimes, I just try to put it in perspective.
It is the internet and some of these people will spew out the insensitivities JUST to GET the reaction. Is it worth my time and attention to get offended…I don’t think so.
I like the info on here and some of you people aren’t so bad yourselves.

If someone can’t copy and paste there post into a program with spellcheck, then they should get mocked.

Some of us try to write it directly it give us practice so that we can learn to better ourselves, and like myself there are a few people to whom English is not our first language so if we make some mistakes get over it.

His first post made no ref to gays and demonic possession. Are you refering to another thread?
Fag is a derogatory term for set of behaviors that many consider deviant, unnatural and unhealthy. The term is going to come up, just like whore, sot, bum, etc. If harris assumes that everyone who uses such terms “hates” the people who act out these sets of behaviors, I think he is mistaken. It is not fair to assume that someone who is disgusted by a person’s certain set of behaviors hates that person. I am sure it is frequently not the case.
