I’m kind of thinking of throwing in another chest day on Saturday (would be one full day of rest in between Bench and this day) – I wouldn’t be doing anything super heavy and the focus wouldnt be on my BP numbers persay, but just strengthening my chest. Thoughts?

It pisses me off because they let all this other stupid shit go on in the weightroom, but they wont let me deadlift. fucking seriously?! im raging right now.

They won’t let you deadlift at all? Tell them you’ll be “gentler” to their precious weights, and set them down. If that doesn’t work, tell them you’re just doing bent over rows, they won’t know the difference.

But…I must say, that dips with adding as much and more than another you, is fucking crazy. I couldn’t imagine adding 200 to a belt and trying to dip. Kick ass man.

The meet’s june 4 and I really can’t afford a decent quality belt right now – I might borrow a friends if I really want to, but do you think 2 weeks will be enough time with it?

Dip-wise, idk man I think I’ve always just been bio mechanically predisposed to be good at em’ cause it sure as hell ain’t carrying over to my bench! And yeah, I go to right below where my tris are parallel to the ground (90 degree angle), but not much further than that because I really don’t wanna risk anything if im doing em weighted.

Talked to my buddy who actually works at the gym and he says its bullshit too and he has been actually trying to convince them to get bumper plates like the ICA gym forever… maybe I should join an ICA sports team just so I could use that gym =P In the meantime, he says I should go when it’s more busy so less people will notice lol.

…and as I’m writing this the worker who notified me walked by – maybe it’s all in my head, but im pretty sure she death glared me.

Anyway, gonna go finish my workout if I can.

As for a belt, yes, you really gotta get one. Even if you’re borrowing one form someone or whatever, you gotta get in one for a couple sessions and then the meet. Warm up and then get it on. You’ll definitely benefit from it, and it’ll hurt your total NOT having it. Trust me

3x today? What kind of program, if any, are you following?

Im following 5/3/1 extremely loosely. and by that I mean I just use it as my main worksets and throw in some heavy triples/doubles or singles. Today was an abnormality: I never do shit like this. Just had really great energy etc. yknow, the perfect storm? Tomorrow is definitely gonna be a rest day.

Also, the guys I lifted with are really strong and they’re the kinda guys I wanna lift with/be around yknow? So its a trial session. I’m starting to see that environment really does matter. Ever since I started consistently logging and slowly changing my environment so it’s more conducive toward my lifting, I’ve noticed that I’m so much happier with my lifting/life. It’s hard to explain… but yeah, lol

oh, and also, the guy who helped me get 405 for the first time last summer (taught me “balls to the bar”) was there and idk, just all the people there provided a great environment for me: i was pumped and felt really confident in what i was doing. the funny part is, he helped me get the 425 up as well by reminding me to a)focus and b) keep my chin up. it was just really cool

Leading up to your meet, I’d use it on every squat and dead after warmups, so you get used to it. What one you plan on getting?

Yeah, actually last night I realized that I don’t know jack shit about meet prep and that I need a plan. Like a serious plan. I’m prolly gonna talk to some guys I know who have competed in both strongman and powerlifting before and been successful (one of em being a guy who deadlifted 700 lb at age 19). If they don’t have any real plan, than my tenative plan is to start my second cycle of 5/3/1 at the SECOND week so my deload week coincides with the week leading up. I’ll probably do something like this leading up:

M: Openers
T: 5/3/1 Squat and DL
W: 5/3/1 Bench
R: Light bodyweight exercises → like 5x10 dips, 5x10 pullups, 5x10 bw squats, light hyperextensions, light steady state cardio
F: Sleep, sex (hopefully. this is also at the recommendation of Mr. Wendler, but I replaced masturbation with sex, I figured if its available it will probably trump the former…), food… and a final. Not looking forward to the last one
