Now I know this isnt Surge but does this sound ok; wash down 3 rolls of smarties candy (25 calories each, first ingredient is dextrose)w/ 2.5 servings of gatorade (150 calories) and 30 grams whey protein. I am a college student on a TIGHT budget and can get the 5 lb. jugs of protein cheap and the other stuff at the dinning hall. I weigh 150lbs so this meets the carb:protein breakdown for a post workout shake that JMB recomends in this weeks A.F.C. I was just wondering how my ingredients were. Thanks
Just bringing this back into view
Jude, using straight up dextrose would be a much better route to go. I get mine at a bulk food store here in Canada where the dextrose is labelled as corn sugar. I can get enough to last me a month for only a few bucks. Plus, isn’t there fat in smarties from the chocolate? You want to avoid fat in any post-workout concoction.
smarties in canada aren’t the same candy as smarties in america (no chocolate). So I think this would work. Let me know as I’m on a limited budget myself and your idea sounds interesting.
At any rate, dextrose would probably be cheaper than “smarties”, wherever you are.
Jude,
How about whey protein + chocolate skim milk . .lot’s of glucose and simple sugars, a touch more protein from casein thanks to the dairy and almost no fat.
SupplementDirect (find it on the world wide web) sells an 11 lb bag of Dextrose for 10 bucks. Not sure what shipping is, but i am going to buy 1.
If you really want to get dextrose cheap try buying it in bulk from a local beer or wine making store. I picked up a 50 lb bag of dextrose a little while back for only $32 (and then you also eliminate any shipping costs too).
