Mayweather vs McGregor

So now Conor will win? I thought it was “interesting problems” but a “small chance”? lol

Make up your mind. Or have another round of drinks and keep 'em coming!

I repeat myself, it’s absurd to think Mayweather will chase after Conor, who can always clinch for a small breather.
The thought of Conor losing his nerves, with no stamina left all the while being “hunted” by Moneyweather! I don’t know what would be more ridiculous!

Sounds like YOU have been duped by the Mayweather productions ; )

Surviving twelve rounds isn’t impossible at all.

What will be difficult for Conor is looking good around mid-bout.

It’s absurd to think that Floyd will hunt Conor, when Conor is absolutely spent & broken down by lethal body shots?

Okee… That sir, is a cool story.

And you just said: “What will be difficult for Conor is looking good around mid-bout.”

So, Conor won’t look too good mid-bout & Floyd will most likely look fresh & lightning fast. Hmm. I’m having a really hard time picturing Conor being able to hold his arms up after 8 rounds. Sounds like a recipe to get hunted.

Also, sure, i’ve been duped by a 49-0-0 boxer fighting a massive weight cutting 21-3 MMA fighter in a boxing match, while watching with my own eyes, Conor get outboxed in round 2 of his first fight with Nate, get caught with some shots, gas, get taken down, and choked out. In that fight he showed he’s a quitter.

We’ll see soon enough

Conor should have created a thread in T-Nation’s combat subforum:

Hi guys. I’m fighting arguably one of the greatest boxers of all time, someone who has mastered the sweet science, in a 12 round boxing match. I have 6 weeks to prepare. Anyone have any advice? What are my chances?

Thanks!!!

Comparing Conor fighting Floyd to Floyd playing football is probably not the best analogy as those two sports are completely different (even though both involve a lot of blunt force trauma).

A better analogy would be taking Ashton Eaton, the current World Record holder in the Decathalon and having him race Usain Bolt in the 100 meter dash. Both men regularly run the 100 meter dash as part of their sport and are proficient in running it, might “know” just as much about how to run it (technically, how to train for it, etc…), and have run it effectively for the purposes of their event.

But there is a difference between “knowing” how to run the 100 meters and dedicating your life to just sprinting (not to mention having insane genetic predisposition for being successful at doing so). And likewise, there is a difference between “knowing” how to box and spending your entire life only dedicated to boxing.

The numbers of hours that Floyd has spent boxing that Conor has not (both having been lucky enough to have a family of extremely high level boxing coaches, and all the hours that Conor could not spend on boxing because he had to spend them on other skill sets necessary for success in MMA like wrestling, submissions/Jiu-Jitsu, kicking, etc…) is significant, and combined with his genetic gifts will give him a similar advantage over Conor that Usain would enjoy over Ashton. Of course combat sports are more unpredictable in nature in general than track and field events like sprinting, but not that much more to where the analogy doesn’t still hold true.

Put the two in an MMA match, and then there would be a good chance that Conor’s more well rounded combat skill sets could offset or reverse Floyd’s boxing skill advantage, but this is not an MMA fight where those other skill sets will do him any good (save for maybe his clinching skills, but then Conor is no Randy Couture, Ronda Roussey, or someone who is known for their World Class clinching skills).

How the hell was that stopped???

Because it was clear that McGregor was done and wanted no more of that beating he was getting (which is essentially a TKO). The ref is there to protect the fighters and enforce the rules. Seems like he did just that.

Incredible performance from Conor, he’s got some serious balls on him. So much respect.

Floyd had some fun in there but took some shots, that’s going to sting his ego for a long time. That counter uppercut landed clean on him in the first, as well as several shots throughout the other rounds. Though, he wasn’t fighting “defensively” in his philly shell/moving around like he normally does, so he was just walking Conor down but I still don’t think he wanted to eat any shots. He knew there is just no way this could go 12, and you could see him basically increase the pace every round until Conor was completely toast in the end.

I love how the ref let so much go for Conor during the fight.

Also, I wish it wasn’t stopped. I’d rather have seen Conor flat out cold on the canvas. Notice there was no complaint from Conor immediately after the stoppage though. He was toast.

I found it a little silly how the ref didn’t do anything besides warning McGregor when he kept hitting Mayweather at the back of his head/near the general area.

Funny how mcgregor talked himself up so much, yet lost. Hahahaha

Everyone says the ref was rigged for Mayweather…The ref was super lenient on McGregor
Everyone says the fight was stopped too early… I agree, it might could have gone a bit more, but Conor was going down that round regardless and Dana would have been PISSED if his golden boy got fucked too bad
Everyone says “Okay, now its Floyd’s turn to get in the octagon”… Conor came to him if I’m not mistaken. Floyd said he didn’t want to, Conner persisted (as did fans, and UFC) so Floyd accepted. Remember, FLOYD DID NOT WANT TO DID THIS A YEAR AGO.
Everyone says that McGregor is still a winner… Honestly, he did much better than I thought he would, BUT he ran his mouth wayyyy too much for media.
Everyone said it was it fight… It wasn’t a fight to begin with. It was a show at most to attract people that wouldn’t stay for the Canelo GGG fight and would still pay 100 bucks to watch.

In the end, it wasn’t as shit as I thought it would be, Conor did better than I thought he would, and every dumbass who saw Rocky 3 twice commented exactly how I thought they would when Mayweather won.

QFE.

Solid performance from Mayweather. As a Mick, a part of me wanted the upset, but as a boxing fan I wanted Floyd to show Conor that he was in a different league, and you don’t get to talk smack about the sport and get away with it. Floyd is a helluva champion, and he took Conor apart.

Perfectly justified stoppage and that was among the most aggressive performances I have seen from Floyd. Their plan worked perfectly. Had it not been stopped, he’d have been out within 2 minutes.

As an aside, Floyd coming in in a balaclava was a bit tasteless.

Was that some “IRA” sh*t? That’s what it looked like to me… If so, very weird.

What a fight.

Will legions of “experts” now reevaluate their opinions on fist-fighting?

Conor did better against Floyd than almost anybody I can remember. It’s still mindblowing how little “TBE” did for 2 rounds, when we read so often how he would be able to shut down McGregor anytime he wanted.

In the end, Mayweather was aggressively headhunting! He essentially had to forego using his style to beat the Irish, which is not a critique but actually high praise. Because a cautious exchange in the midrounds could very well have resulted in a loss.

I’m still a bit shocked to be honest.
To think that some commentator (don’t remember which) even proclaimed “he would’t even touch him once”.
Incredible performance.
I guess a golf player CAN outrun top 10 sprinters lol.

For what my Canadian $.002 exchanges, should we say Macgregor did much better in boxing than James Toney did in MMA?

Or should the evaluation be that Floyd wanted to give paying fans length of something to watch and figured he would finish it when he did?

Oh, I just checked the UFC’s website and not a mention of the result. I wonder if Dana White is without anything he can think to post there.

That was my thought. But I can’t be sure.

Loss by TKO = “outrun”? lol
