Mayweather a Punk

I’d say the professional thing to do was to win the fight. His job is to knock the other guy out within the rules of boxing. That’s exactly what he did.

I guess, that doesn’t affect it being a punk move or not, but he did his job.

What I find surprising is that people still care about boxing…

Boxing has always been on deaths door in the publics eye, only to be pulled back with a great young hope. From pro bouts on the docks to avoid the cops in the 1800’s to being almost beat by pro wrestling in the late 50’s. At it’s heart it will always be a poor mans sport. No team, just you.

It will rise again

Fact #1: The fight was re-started

Fact #2: Maywheather proceeded to knock Ortiz out

the rest is all personal opinion, it was legal, May did win. What you think of it won’t change, whether you’re from camp A or B, just agree to disagree.

I want the rematch.

I want to see if Ortiz learned his lesson. You can’t be starstruck or pay homage in the ring becausee you’ll get your clock cleaned. Punk move or otherwise.

I think it was a cheap shot. The whole debate is lost in shades of grey, as everyone has a slightly different moral centre. For example, I think someone lacks character if they are the first to resort to cheap shots, but I don’t think someone who clocks someone else with a cheap shot having been fouled themselves, regardless of whether it is in the heat of battle or during a break in the action, lacks character. I don’t think Floyd’s cheap shot showed a lack of character (although I do think Floyd is a low life scum bucket, and I wouldn’t piss on a fire to put him out). Ortiz was doing everything he could to stop the fight starting again. Floyd gave him a clip round the ear with his left, and Ortiz, unhurt, looked to the ref.

At the point Floyd hit him with his right, as far as I’m concerned, Ortiz had had his warning. So while it ws a little cheap, since Ortiz didn’t seem keen to engage, I don’t fault floyd for having had enough of fucking about.

I will come out with it and declare that I believe I would do the exact same thing in the circumstances, and my opponent would be lucky to get the left as a warning shot. I am young though, and perhaps I am still overly volatile, as in the bouts I’ve had where someone has cut up rough, I’ve not been slow to retaliate in kind (I was DQ’d in my first bout, having been headbutted, for throwing elbows). It’s my opinion that once you step outside the rules, especially in the way Ortiz did, all bets are off. If that means I lack character in some people’s eyes, then so be it, I can live with that.

the more I think about it the more I realize the fight was rigged. Ortiz headbutt was too obvious usually boxers disguise it with a punch. Ortiz gave up the fight, you just cannot be this naif.

not to mention the ref…you just dont turn away from a fight after you 've just started it.

I was at my bar watching the fight and EVERYONE was shocked and disappointed about how it ended. The words, “cheap shot” and “sucker punch” were heard in just about every sentence. It’s not what they paid to see.

No one is arguing that it was “within the rules”. But it WAS a cheap shot. It’s not how a fight of this magnitude should have ended. There is plenty of blame to go around: the ref failed to manage the fighters properly and give a CLEAR and CLEAN restart; Ortiz failed to protect himself went over the top with the apologies (I thought he was gonna try and give Mayweather a quick handjob) ; Mayweather failed to show common sense and professionalism by hitting Ortiz when he was clearly not ready.

Unprofessional.

I like that.

Makes sense to me.

Sorry, I thought when a “man” says something, even writes it, he stands by it. If my neighbor wrote me a letter and mailed it and called me a bitch, I’d be sure to see him to let him express himself.

The only problem here is people (most likely younger) think internet = “not real life”. And that’s bullshit. That just means someone hides behind the internet. We know that. I don’t.

And it has nothing to do with my argument. The merits, or lack thereof, of my argument, stand alone. My opinion is not alone however.
Make sure when you meet up to touch fists then put your guard up quickly, lol.

But in all seriousness, you’re challenging someone to a fight over the internet, over a dispute that has no bearing on either of your lives. Get a grip, dude. A man of your age is SERIOUSLY risking meeting a complete stranger with no guarantee of fair conditions for the sake of what, honour?

Mate, you have kid(s) and responsibilities, stop acting 16 years old.
In all seriousness, save the sermon for church. This isn’t my first rodeo. Someone want to see me, I’ll make myself available ASAP. Someone call me a bitch to my face and they don’t have a weapon and they’re with 5 friends? Better guard your grill better than Ortiz did.

Oh right, someone calls you a petty name and you now feel like you have to fight them.

How the FUCK is this the same guy talking about not beating children? Are you actually THAT RILED UP OVER INTERNET posts that you’re willing to get physical?

You’d think someone like you who knows how the shit goes down would be slightly more reserved than that, but no. Believe what you want about there being no distinction between real life and the internet, but the reality is that it makes you look stupid when you’re challenging strangers to fist fights over completely minor disagreements.

Make sure you keep that guard up, big boy.

was it within the rules? yes. did ortiz have it coming? yes.

was it dirty? yes… why? well when people look back at this fight they aren’t going to say “man Floyd really out-boxed ortiz” or “he danced circles around him” they are going to say, “well he could have if he wanted to but instead he just punched him when he wasn’t looking”. I think no less of floyd (didn’t have a high opinion to begin with though), i may (probably) have done the same thing if i was angry enough - but it was still dirty. No one will remember this as a classic fight were mayweather dominated his opponent, they will remember he punched him when he wasn’t looking. The very fact that its generated this much discussion proves its dubious nature.

Who looks stupid?

Did I say fist fight? Or did I offer to give him a chance to call me a bitch to my face? I doubt I’m getting called a bitch, so forgive me if I don’t worry about that dreaded fist fight.

My guess is that you’re much younger with your “it’s just the internet defense”.

You. You look stupid.

Clearly you can’t see why taking anything said on the internet to the real world is immature, hence why you look stupid.

My age is up in my hub, it’s not being hidden, and yet, you show the maturity of someone a hell of a lot younger than me.

Children, successful career, I’m guessing a house (possibly paid off mortgage)… and he challenges internet warriors to mortal combat. LOL.

This thread rules.

I love when people get into fights and fired up over dumb shit.

Carry on gentlemen.

TBG, don’t get riled up over fightingirish. He is nothing but a punk, if he was a true professional of boxing he would not be talking shit, instead he would be objective, hence the reason he is not a true professional. Instead he is biased and talking shit. Like a true bitch he went ass talking first and calling out everyone instead of stating the facts. It was a bitch move by mayweather but legal. Instead he attacked all of us who know nothing about boxing.

The fight was bought in my opinion why does no one see this. The headbutt was the signal. Ortiz was bitched slap and he did not fight back instead he smiled at the cameras.
