Wait a sec - you are comparing a posting on this Web site that took all of, what, maybe 1 minute to write to your hacking into a co-worker’s computer while on the job? If you cannot see the difference there, you have bigger problems than two people talking about you.
It’s clearly unethical. I’m not sure why this is even a debate. Also, I am fairly certain your actions to do that tunneling are fairly easily tracked, traced and logged by the IT system of your company. Even worse, if you were able to do all of this because you work in IT, then you are really going over some bad lines.
You really should just leave this all behind you and move forward, possibly to a new job as recommended previously. I doubt you want to be looking over your shoulder all the time about whether or not your bosses know about this and will use it against you later.
You were “granted” a peak inside their heads. Who knows, possibly this knowledge will prove useful some time in the future, probably not though. I’d move on and whenever a decision arises which concernes the two of them, you’ll know what to do.

I can understand your curiosity…We all would like to know what others are saying. But the bottom line is, EVERYONE has shit to say about someone else…you just can’t get bogged down with all that crap. Life is too short.

Take the classic case: You live in an apartment and your neighbor upstairs is blasting music at 1 am. Possible repsonses:
Passive - Sit on your couch or climb into bed with the pillow over your head as you get angrier and angrier.
Agressive - Stomp up stairs and band on their door and scream “If you don’t turn that shit down, I’m calling the cops! (or I’m gonna kick your ass)”
Passive-Agressive - Sit on your couch and write a nasty letter to the apartment mgmt or anonymously call the cops.
I can’t remember the name for the proper behaviour Upfront? Forthright? - Walk upstairs and knock firmly on their door. When they answer, speak without anger, using a “me” statement:
“That music (not your music!) is awefully loud and I cannot sleep/hear my TV program/etc. Could you please turn it down?”
Now I realize that some slut-hag-whores can’t be dealt with, but these are truly far and in between. In 20 years of professional work, I’ve only met one. Most respond well to straight-ahead, non-emotional discussion.
Just how did you “not take her BS” or wave off her attempts at unloading work on you?
