Matt Kroc Transitions to Janae Kroc

T3h: My training? Always up and down. But constantly a great source of joy in my life.

Push: You sound like an overgrown playground bully.

Just putting this here for people who are trying to sort out the psychological/ medical issues and how these things are categorized.

Gender dysphoria or gender identity disorder (GID) is the formal diagnosis used by psychologists and physicians to describe people who experience significant dysphoria (distress) with the sex and gender they were assigned at birth. Evidence suggests that people who identify with a gender different from the one they were assigned at birth, may do so not just due to psychological or behavioral causes, but also biological ones related to their genetics, the makeup of their brains, or prenatal exposure to hormones…

GID is classified as a disorder by the ICD-10 CM[7] and DSM-5 (called gender dysphoria).[8] Many transgender people and researchers support declassification of GID because they say the diagnosis pathologizes gender variance, reinforces the binary model of gender,[9] and can result in stigmatization of transgender individuals.[8] The official reclassification as gender dysphoria in the DSM-5 may help resolve some of these issues, because the term gender dysphoria applies only to the discontent experienced by some persons resulting from gender identity issues.[8] The American Psychiatric Association, publisher of the DSM-5, states that “gender nonconformity is not in itself a mental disorder. The critical element of gender dysphoria is the presence of clinically significant distress associated with the condition.”

For people trying to figure out why some of this isn’t classified as gender dysphoria instead of body dysmorphia. As much as I hate to link to a site like Jezebel…

Don’t ever change Push, haha.

That’s awesome to hear. I am going stir crazy these days. 5 months post op on an ACL repair and I just want the green light to go heavy againot. On the plus side, I have found the joy of the prowler.

Back to the topic of restrooms. Go to any sporting event and try to use the restroom at halftime. There will be a line out the door for people who want to use the women’s room. Zero line for the men’s. I’d like someone to solve that problem.

Seriously, about categorization of these things - I’ve already expressed what I think about it earlier in this thread. Lines are drawn. They sometimes seem arbitrary. The DSM continues to undergo revisions. The APA isn’t without it’s own political issues. You’ll find the same issues in any social science department. There’s not a lot of diversity of political thought, in fact, it’s not tolerated. Judgments about morality often gets political. People who don’t agree are increasingly accused of moral turpitude. Hell, we had Oprah say that if you don’t like Obama then there’s racism behind that. Recently, I had a friend say something similar about misogyny underlying people’s dislike of Hillary. Apparently I’m both a racist and a self-loathing misogynist. See how silly some of this gets? I’ll stop ranting, but I’m discouraged by the lack of civility in our country these days. The post Emily put up from her daughter’s FB is an example. If you have concerns about any of this, you’re effectively a hateful bigot, or a hypocrite. Identity politics like that are just toxic. We have to be able to say, “I don’t agree” or “I dislike that idea” without saying “You’re a bad person.” By the same token, we sometimes have to accept defeat without acting like cry bullies. That’s true on both sides of the aisle. If you fill out a survey at the university where I work, you’re going to choose from 5-7 different gender identities, maybe more.

Push: Are you saying I don’t fit in? That’s hurtful:

T3h: That’s a long layoff. I just started prowler pushing myself last week. See? You can teach an old dog new tricks.

I disagree. By demonstrating the fundamental flaw in your position (ie, the erroneous claim TG is a mental disorder), I have vitiated your criticism of the analogy.

It seems we will have to agree to disagree on the validity of the analogy.

I’ve really enjoyed listening to this song while reading this thread.

I’m thinking about all the times my husband and son have wrapped a beach towel around their waists to pull off wet swim trunks and put on dry shorts. What a bunch of male privileged jerks.

Nope. But there should be two women’s facilities for every one built for the men.

We could give women a discount when they buy a Lakers ticket because they’re gonna miss some of the game.

Yeah, I dispensed with that semantic sleight-of-hand as well. You used ‘abnormal’ with a connotation of ‘pathological,’ which is not valid in this case. (TG individuals are abnormal only in the sense of being ‘not average.’) In essence, you tried to use ‘abnormal’ as a euphemism for ‘mental disorder.’

And that’s all I have to say about the analogy sub-sub-sub-topic.

Interestingly, I just got back from a trade show in Munich and there were actually more men’s restrooms than women’s. Now, that sort of show (construction, building, mining) is male dominated and the vast majority of attendees are male, but I think that would be illegal here in the US. That is one thing I seem not to mind as much about European liberals, they are liberal, but they still seem to have a decent level of common sense.

You already admitted that they were abnormal in a negative way.
