So was being gay until 1974. Then the DSM changed.
I would not count on the DSM remaining the way it is now.

The DSM represents our best current understanding of the psychiatric medical literature. So far as psychiatric science is concerned, it is the gold standard. As our understanding of psychopathology has evolved, so has the DSM. In the unlikely event that future editions, reflecting the latest scientific understanding, re-classify transgenderism as a mental disorder, the substance of discussions such as this one will change dramatically. But until and unless that happens, transgenderism is not a mental disorder.

I was not trying to say transgenderism will be reclassified as a mental disorder.
My point is that many current mental disorders now will not be so in the future.
The quote I listed shows the trend that there will be no mental disorders in the future, just human problems.

It is largely political too. Factually, TG is an abnormal mental delusion associated with with incredibly high rates of depression/suicide and many other problems in life. Whether that gets it in the DSM or not. No one would ever want their child to be transgender including the most open minded and unconditionally loving of parents. Would you? No. Why? Because it’s a really negative trait that can lead to huge issues in life.
If one were to say that being black IS a delusional mental disorder, I would say that is a racist statement. To use race as an example of an unchangeable quality and then compare that to another unchangeable quality does not necessitate racism in my experience; it’s more the utilization an analogy.
You will have to understand, my formal educational background is politics and philosophy, so that is how I am approaching this. I was curious if someone could explain more from a sociology perspective.

I’m not sure what your point is here. You are correct, being TG is not something a parent would wish upon their child, because it would likely make his/her life more difficult in a multitude of ways. By the same token, no parent would want their child to be gay, or extremely short, or strikingly unattractive. But that doesn’t make any of these traits ‘abnormal’ (in the pejorative sense in which that word is being used on this thread).
